Former rebel Gustavo Petro wins Colombia's presidential election
BOGOTA, Colombia — Former rebel Gustavo Petro narrowly won a runoff election over a political outsider millionaire Sunday, ushering in a new era of politics for Colombia by becoming the country's first leftist president.
Petro, a senator in his third attempt to win the presidency, got 50.48% of the votes, while real estate magnate Rodolfo Hernández had 47.26%, with almost all ballots counted, according to results released by election authorities.
Petro's victory underlined a drastic change in presidential politics for a country that has long marginalized the left for its perceived association with the armed conflict. Petro himself was once a rebel with the now-defunct M-19 movement and was granted amnesty after being jailed for his involvement with the group.

Sights, sounds and best moments from Round 1 of the 2022 U.S. Open
BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Perhaps the talk of LIV Golf vs. the PGA Tour will subside for a few days, with the start of the U.S. Open at The Country Club officially here. Or, at least, until Phil Mickelson returns to the course Friday. Mickelson, the face of LIV Golf, is still searching for that one missing piece of his Grand Slam résumé: a U.S. Open win.
During the first round, two kids ran off with defending champ Jon Rahm's ball on the 18th hole. Rahm got a free drop on the hole while the kids snagged a souvenir.
Adam Hadwin was the leader by 1 at the end of the first day at 4 under. Rory McIlroy is part of a pack chasing him at 3 under, while Phil Mickelson struggled mightily and is near the bottom of the leaderboard at 8 over.
Here's a look back at the sights and sounds from the first day.

Mortgage Rates Drop Sharply After Fed Announcement
The pace of the spike in mortgage rates over the past several days has been nothing but staggering--especially considering it began when rates were already near their highest levels in more than a decade.  From an average level of 5.55% for a top tier 30yr fixed quote on Thursday, the average lender was up to 6.28% by yesterday afternoon.
The drama began with last Friday's Consumer Price Index (CPI), a key inflation report that showed prices rising faster than expected.  Inflation is biggest concern for the Fed at the moment, and the biggest reason for their increasingly aggressive efforts to push rates higher in 2022.
CPI alone wouldn't have been worth the drama we witnessed, however.  The frenzy of the past few days was compounded by the fact that the financial market knew there was a Fed announcement coming up on Wednesday AND that the Fed was in its regularly-scheduled "blackout period."  During the blackout period, the Fed refrains from public comment on monetary policy.  In other words, markets were flying blind as to what the Fed's response might be to the CPI data, and imaginations ran wild.

Lending Marilyn Monroe dress to Kim Kardashian was 'irresponsible', collector says
It was "irresponsible" to loan an iconic gown once worn by Marilyn Monroe to Kim Kardashian for the Met Gala, a collector has said.
The reality TV star made waves when she appeared at the glitzy fundraiser wearing the dress - dubbed the most famous dress in the world - which was worn by Monroe during her famous 1962 performance of Happy Birthday to US president John F Kennedy.
But some of the attention turned to criticism after collector Scott Fortner posted photos online appearing to show damage to the gown, which has since been returned to Ripley's Believe It or Not!.
Mr Fortner said the franchise's only intention in allowing the reality star to wear the outfit at the prestigious New York fashion event had been "publicity" and that more should have been done to protect the "cultural icon".
But he added that it was not his intention for any outrage to be directed at Kardashian.
"I think the disappointment that I'm experiencing is Ripley has made multiple statements that they were doing everything that they could to protect and preserve the gown," he said.
"I do feel that it (was) irresponsible, this is not just a dress.
"This is a cultural icon. It's a political icon. It's a Hollywood icon.
