A recent project was making some cardboard bleachers for some of the rainbow high girls. Because why buy makeup stands for $30 on Amazon when I can make it myself with free cardboard, a hot glue gun, and months of procrastination? The first attempt was not steady and it took the girls down with it. It held after some tweaks suggested by my dad. One of my friends commented it looked like a doll choir, so now there’s a Heather conducting in front of them (or possibly an exorcism- who knows with this crowd.)
I do expect this to give out at some point, so after that I’ll probably try to remake it out of nicer materials. The dimensions are what I hoped, so just the material would change.

Being a doll collector/ restoration artist is so wack dude, like I just gave A bunch of little Naked people around my bathroom sink or in a box in my corner. Some of them have heads, most don’t. One Right now has a needle sticking out of the top of its head, stabbing new hair into it. It’s like being a really messed up serial killer but with less blood, and legal issues

Watch Denver doll emporium. They often over-order limited fairyland dolls and sell off the extras. If you see other people getting shipping notices, start watching the in stock section. It's not a guarantee, but it is better than nothing. Good luck!
Goddammit. (And Fairyland question.)
Years ago I downsized my collection and got rid of some Fairyland dolls, and I've regretted it ever since.
This week I looked and PukiPukis were available, but I couldn't really justify ordering, so I thought maybe I'd save up and make it a goal. Turns out that was only for a limited time, and they're now out of stock, no indication when they come back.
Anyone know how often Fairyland tend to bring things back in stock? Are we looking at possibly having PukiPuki back in a few months, or is it "Who knows, could be 2026"?

It was “take your centaur to work day” a couple weeks ago. Prism was happy to oblige.

That sounds like a good strategy. I'm excited to hear how she turns out! Dye can come back out, but it's so much easier if you don't have to deal with it. Acetone took care of my dropped leg, but it's not the gentlest on the resin. Good luck with your stencil!
Thanks for the airbrush advice. I was perhaps naively hoping to chalk pastel my way to victory. I found some Breyer horse tutorials that seem really promising for the coat I want. That hobby knows how to do horsey realism. Since I have the chalk, I'd like to give that a shot first. If it doesn't work, I'll probably take your advice.

First doll dyed! I didn't get exactly the color I wanted (too reddish) but I think some blushing should solve it. Don't ask where the tail went. IDK. I intend to replace it anyway.
I accidentally dropped a leg piece into the dye, but was able to get it out quick enough. A quick wipe with acetone and another dunk solved the issue.
And yes, the stir rod is a stick. I forgot to buy a spoon or something as sacrifice so I used a random fallen branch. My friend's dog was in my backyard at the time and VERY disappointed at me taking a stick that was boring two minutes before, so Prism's dyeing has been blessed with puppy saliva.

That sounds beautiful! The cutie mark reminds me a bit of princess Luna from friendship is magic.
Even if it does smear, you can probably blush over the smear to smooth it out or paint new markings on. Or do a test piece first, if you have a spare?
I feel you on the work. Stuck there right now. Then going home for homework.

Please tag along! We need more horse butt in this hobby! As a bonus incentive, she feels like a new doll but I didn't have to pay for a new horse body. Did buy another doll to swap heads though. Since I had my gradient all in one color, I just left parts of the parts in longer and bounced them up and down in the dye to prevent a hard line.
A blue/purple gradient would be lovely. Real horses can have darker legs, if you want a realistic pattern. Like as it gets farther down, the darker the fur gets. It's quite lovely in person. I work on a farm and some of ours have that coloring.
Are you thinking pastels or darker coloration?

Oh my gosh you guys got custom dolls too!!! How come you guys look so weird? Wouldn't it have made more sense to make us all match? Is Sleepy gonna make another one of me to match you guys? Oh! Oh! Are they gonna gonna make another set of you two to match me! Are they gonna make the rest of our friends? Are we gonna get custom accessories because it'd be really cool if I had a cake!!!
My custom MLP dolls together.

Instead of NA only, I set the search to display closest to farthest. Because I live in the US, most of the beginning of results is secondhand legits and some labeled recasts. As a bonus, it ends up roughly sorting shipping costs too. I don't get drowned out by recasts but I can still see plenty of EU or UK listings.
It came up in conversation how I'm often finding good BJD listings on eBay and how do I search in order to find things.
My main searches are:
bjd -ucanaan -toy -toys -popovy -recast -eva -doris -barbie -gift -changeable -removable -gifts -oueneifs -faiiry -ken
and
volks -azone -blythe -pullip
However, I've also excluded a lot of sellers that sell recasts.
To do that you have to go to Advanced search and scroll down to here:
Tumblr media
and put in whatever sellers you don't want to see in your search results.
I just added one, so mine's:
jalpit,unlimitedcellular,lxlstech,jorge-dimensiones,femail007295c,wework-now-24-hours,the-real-deal-usa,noamsshop,usa-best-deal,caladhieltan,beautyforyou66,us-deal-monster,natalula,matthew--aceron,riprin-70
right now.
Probably better explained by someone else:
Tumblr media
which is from here: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Ask-a-Mentor/How-to-block-a-seller/td-p/33017351
I also set the first search to North America only because there's no "everywhere but China" option. China is where most of the fakes are coming from as of now. That does mean I miss out on a TON of listings, though.
That helps filter out recasters that don't disclose they're selling recasts and AliExpress junk.
The Volks search's results are much fewer so sorting through them isn't as daunting and I have that one set to worldwide.
Either way, afaik Facebook Groups is the most active place to buy and sell BJD right now? I'm not in any groups, though.

Found a new use for extra BJD dye. This might be a terrible idea but it hasn't poisoned me yet and I don't intend to feed it to the cat. After dyeing my doll, I stuck my extra cotton thread in there. It had taken up dye well during the dyeing process, so I figured it might do the same if it was dyed as more than sacrifice. Some vinegar, a good rinse, and drying time later, I have some extra fancy cotton crochet thread.
