"Underground rap" isn't a thing.

It probably hasn’t existed as a distinct entity from “the mainstream” for at least a decade. It’s a non-sense thing to talk about anyways; the only people I see using it are doing so to discredit “mainstream” (aka successful) artists only because they’re successful. In the same vein, praising something just because its novel makes as little or less sense. You want to find where music is headed, look for people who are pushing and challenging the medium in a meaningful way.
