Assumption 1: The characters are white. Even when they aren’t white in the text, they are white on the cover. I know, you don’t have to tell me about sales! I have fought many cover departments on this issue, and mostly lost. But please consider that “what sells” or “doesn’t sell” can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If black kids, Hispanics, Indians both Eastern and Western, don’t buy fantasy — which they mostly don’t — could it be because they never see themselves on the cover?

I have received letters that broke my heart, from adolescents of color in this country and in England, telling me that when they realized that Ged and the other Archipelagans in the Earthsea books are not white people, they felt included in the world of literary and movie fantasy for the first time. it seems that this emoji 😌 has become my go to for any and all things jack/phryne related ideky apparently it means ‘relieved’ and nothing really about this pairing gives me relief

imo this emoji 😌 looks more like the quietest longest-suffering sloth-slowest subtle-to-the-point-of-being-handsfree facepalm which is what jack/phryne makes me feel all of the time

phryne had the mark antony costume packed at the ~very beginning of the episode, before she heard about the murder; and she had an invite for jack to go to the party as her partner which would have been done before the murder as well and she meant that as a whole different kind of partner to the law enforcing one.

oh she was going to ask him out on a date all along 😭 season one episode twelve, phryne fisher i know what you are! (falling in love with jack robinson)

their first date before their first date - and they don’t have much luck with those, and i love that she’s always been the driving scheming force behind them (all the way to the tent in the desert ugh)

(and then the foreshadowing with foyle telling jane ‘(cleopatra) falls in love with mark antony’ 😭 please this show is so delightful on the details!)

it's v interesting that she asks him 'to ask nicely' and his mind immediately translates that to 'begging', like, what?? are they that competitive that the idea of explicitly asking each other for help is the same as surrendering? bc i think it is bc they are that competitive. what was that s3 line again- 'what about the [collingwood kid] i'm looking at right now? / i thought you were cooperating with me' -- then again phryne's vibes when she asks him to ask nicely are hardly as pure as the undriven snow 😌

and jack's 'please' isn't even a 'nice' one it's more, like, you asked for it here is my half-arsed non-begging grudgingly offered plea for your help while still maintaining full eye contact to make it look sincere and give you what you want bc i am a giving man and that is why this scene ended up being weirdly searingly hot let us not talk about the raspiness of his voice either and the way his eyes do a pan over to see precisely what her reaction is to him 'begging' bc of how he needs to record it in his phryne dossier as he too is hardly as pure as the undriven snow 😌

sometimes i think about the absolute ~~skill~~ that nathan page used to portray jack robinson and am just bowled over

god. okay. i know i said this before verbatim but. Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries season one episode one introduces this tall gaunt gangly NPC generic White Man so forgettable to me that I assume he is a one-off character, and then three seasons later I am rolling around on the floor wailing over how Jack Robinson is the sexiest, most scorching hot, most amazing man in the world
