I think one of my favorite creative joys is seeing how many different things people can do with the same concept. give ten writers the same starting point, or basic plot, or set of tropes to use and you're still going to get wildly different end results

the details you focus on, the ones you omit, turns of phrase, tone, and framing, the cadence and tempo of the sentences themselves, all the little fingerprints you've left littered across the prose — how you tell the story matters, and your personal voice is what makes it unique

They don't understand what's going on (they might not even know they're dead), no one can see or hear them, they're traumatised from all that they've seen and nothing seems familiar enough for them to latch onto for stability

hello! can you explain how a Caretaker might help a Whumpee beginning to suffer from heatstroke, but who isn't quite unconscious yet? and what would be the recovery/aftereffects for Whumpee?

Here are the symptoms [x] and here is the first aid: [x] Then at the hospital they may receive cool IV fluids, a cooling blanket, an ice bath, medications to prevent seizures and supplemental oxygen. During their recovery, their body will probably be more sensitive to high temperatures. They should avoid the heat and physical activity for at least a week and they’ll probably need periodic tests to monitor kidney and liver function. After they’ve had it once, they’re at higher risk to get it again.

Whumpee woke with a sobbing shout. They quivered and panted, memories hit them as if they were still on the floor at whumper's feet. They felt arms wrap around them and beeping heard overhead; the sound worsened the pounding already in their head. 

"Hey hey hey! It's okay. You got a lot of injuries, you've got to take it slow." Caretaker touched whumpees forehead and put them back against the pillow. They tightly gripped whumpee's hand and the other rested on their chest.

"Wh-where am I? How did I get here?" Whumpee panicked. 

"You're in a hospital. I'm here with you, everything's okay. You're going to be fine..." Caretaker sadly smiled. Whumpee stared up at them with wide eyes, breathing like a wounded animal, gripping the back of caretakers hand with every ounce of strength, which was hardly holding them at all.

Despite caretaker's calm demeanor, whumpee could feel caretaker's hand shaking as much as their own.

"You-" Whumpee breathed, trying to raise their hand to them, but they couldn't.

"Yeah, it's me," Caretaker smiled, collecting their collapsed hand in their own. "I'm here, I'm taking good care of you. You can keep resting, okay?"

Whumpee shook their head no, their body still in fight or flight mode, wanting nothing more but to jump up and assess their surroundings. Caretaker could see their legs twitching and slowly inching off the bed as they sighed and scooted on the bed with them, pushing their legs back to the center.

"No hon, it's too early to be doing that." Caretaker soothed, laying whumpee's head on their shoulder.

It was almost as if as soon as whumeee's cheek settled, they relaxed and their heart rate slowly returned to normal beat by beat. Caretaker looked up at their monitor and sighed with relief watching the numbers stabilize.

Sick of characters who are simply Cool or Badass or Horrifying or Edgy all the time. They need to be pathetic too. It elevates them. It’s like adding a bit of salt to a sweet dish to bring out the flavour. Tbh, I think a character can only be truly horrifying, badass, etc. WITH a lil bit of pathetic in 'em.

okay but hypersomnia in whump

listen i know exhaustion/insomnia is common and it's also delicious but just hear me out ok?

whumpee who, even after getting out, can't stay awake for more than 15 minutes. even when they are awake, they're tired and drowsy.

and it's so *frustrating* for everyone involved. caretaker leaves them alone for five minutes and they're back asleep. at the table, on the couch, even on the floor, and it takes time and effort to get them awake enough to do anything, and they're likely to be asleep soon again anyway.

it's hard to get anything meaningful done towards recovery because whumpee is just so tired. maybe they're endlessly frustrated that they can't just stay awake, or maybe they use it as a coping mechanism. being awake is too cold and loud and busy, so they'll try to just sleep the world away.

it's hard to have meaningful conversations with them. caretaker and teammates struggle to try and reconnect with whumpee because they're just always asleep. and it's frustrating because whumpee is *trying* to stay awake, or maybe they're not.

caffeine just prevents the sleeping part without really fixing the waking part. they can't sleep but they're still too tired to do anything.
