"Maybe not," Quattro replies with a coolness hardly befitting the man he’s sure Amuro sees him as. He’s thought about it extensively before, though never was granted the time to ask—truly, how /does/ Amuro see him?

Surely, they both developed views of the other that, obviously, differed from reality. Completely different from the other, even, but one trait must have been common—to see the other as a heartless murderer, guilty of the untimely death of Lalah Sune.

Maybe that's all they'd ever agree on. That one of them got her killed that night. Yes— Amuro would be right to assume Quattro was also unable to "forgive and forget."

"Fate instead, perhaps, us meeting again here. On the same side.” Whether Quattro is taunting Amuro or being truthful here seems to be outside even his own knowledge, and his expression stays calculatingly even.

“Your growth seems to have stunted. Is that what you call doing well for yourself?”

Quattro tilts his head, hands carefully folded over crossed legs, hidden eyes glancing downward at the difference in their body language. Amuro, in Quattro’s opinion, has a habit of making himself seem small. It's almost interesting, why /does/ he behave that way?

“I did all I had to—though, not all I would have liked.” He leaves no room for Amuro to ask what he may have meant, quickly following up to answer the question asked of him.

“That's a simple question with a complex answer. Roughly for the same reason as you—I simply was not made for mundane life.”

It's difficult, would take far too much time, to explain his entire life between then and now. To explain how he became Quattro Bajeena—and that Amuro is entirely correct in assuming that he never truly stopped fighting. Always embroiled in conflict, always keeping himself busy. Keeping his mind occupied.

Clasping his fingers together, Amuro tried to meet Quattro's gaze behind those sunglasses of his. "Is that why we're here again? Out of necessity?" The last thing Amuro expected after the One Year War was being in the same space as the man whom he once and still knew as Char Aznable.

In spite of their previous animosity, he was surprised that he was as calm as he could be. Time must have both done them a favor in an almost miraculous way. Nevertheless, Amuro wasn't ready nor would he be ever willing to forgive and forget. Without needing to say it out loud, he felt that Quattro might feel the same way.

"I think I was doing pretty good for myself after playing my part. But, I guess living a normal life will never be in the cards for me. And maybe the same goes for someone like you, too." Seven years was a long time, but the nightmares and guilt during those days of mundanity often made him relive the horrors of war.

"Besides, you managed to accomplish what you had to do back then. Well, I'm pretty sure you did." His clasp tightened, regaining composure shortly afterwards. "So tell me... Why haven't you ever stopped fighting, Char?" His referral to Quattro as his previous identity was out of habit, and an indicator if he wasn't being in total control of his emotions.

Despite all that Amuro has been through—of all the encounters the two have had with each other—Quattro found that he knew very little about the man himself. That fact, in Quattro's eyes, was something of a strength. Only so much can be done to harm someone the public has minimal personal information on.

To say that Quattro had resigned to this lack of knowledge wouldn't be an understatement. In his eyes, they had an innate understanding of each other beyond the need for conversations like this—but he's not the type to pass up such a thing, either.

"War brings about the unexpected," his response begins with an even tone. "It's often surprising, the things people do out of necessity."

okay so i got like, three books delivered this week, and in anticipation i reread another book that i had, and lads, let me tell ye, it was like quicksand. so now i have a list, some from my head, many from my wonderful friends’ heads, of prompts that basically made us all very soft or very “pleasantly scandalized rich lady from the sixties who just found out a juicy bit of goss about the new neighbor”. i hope ye like them! (DO NOT ADD TO THE LIST. I WILL MAKE A PART TWO. AND THREE. AND FOUR. MANY MANY PARTS. EVENTUALLY. )

[ HAIR ]:          sender slowly reaches out to catch a loose strand of the receiver’s hair and tuck it gently and securely back behind their ear, letting their touch linger afterwards. (if the receiver has short hair, then the sender reaches out and gently runs their fingers through their hair to smooth it back.)

[ CLOSE ]:          while standing remarkably close to one another, the sender is unable to stop themselves from running their gaze across the receiver’s body, lingering for a moment on their lips, before returning to initiate prolonged, intense eye contact.

[ CHIN ]:          as they stand close to one another, the sender hooks a finger and tenderly lifts the receiver’s chin, tilting it up so that they can look at one another, and running a thumb across their skin lightly.

[ THUMB ]:          while cupping the receiver’s cheek in their hand, the sender slowly glides their thumb across their cheekbone in a tender, sweeping caress.

[ WOUND ]:          upon noticing a recent injury on the receiver’s person, the sender carefully moves closer, running a thumb (or hand) across the wound in a gentle, troubled manner.

[ BEHIND ]:         upon entering the same room as the receiver, the sender steps behind them, and winds their arms around the receiver’s waist, drawing them close against them.

[ WAIT ]:          realizing the receiver is about to leave the room, the sender hastily reaches out and catches their wrist, preventing them from continuing their departure.

[ ARM ]:          after holding their hand, the sender releases the receiver, but slowly glides their hand up the full length of their arm, lingering on the upper arm, then the shoulder, then resting their touch against the side of their neck.

[ HOLD ]:          while close to the receiver, the sender wordlessly takes a hold of their hand, for no other purpose than to be holding it.
