can we talk about how bill potts has had the worst companion experience of all time? in the four-ish years (from her perspective) she’s known the doctor she’s only been on four real adventures. she visited the future human colony and regency england, cool. then termites swallowed every known picture of her mum? she was starved of oxygen and nearly died on a spaceship. she was abandoned by the doctor for six months in an alien regime as part of his tests. at this point, shes ready to sacrifice herself, telling the doctor that its worth it for what theyve done together. is it really? then she visits mars and roman britain, also cool. then she was fatally shot. and she was trapped working in a hospital for two and a half years without even being able to GO OUTSIDE without having a LITERAL HEART ATTACK before being converted into an ACTUAL CYBERMAN. honestly i didnt think anyone could have a worse time than martha jones. but she’s so optimistic and wants to continue to travel and she deserves so much more. I hope she gets it if she stays for s11.

Alexander: Bad News- Washington finds it very concerning that I know how to pick locks, and tried to unlock my Tragic Backstory™. I was too embarrassed to admit that the reason I learned was because, at thirteen, I figured that was the kind of skill that would impress cute boys.

want to make it legal to discriminate against lgbt people

want children to be taught creationism as fact

want no access to abortion, and for it to be criminalised for people to seek that help

want to bring back the death penalty

this is a thing that is actually happening in uk politics right now and nobody on this website seems to care, yet when the american election was happening it was literally everywhere

There’s this beautiful thing about writing: whatever you’re writing can only be written now.

You could take the same premise, the same plot, the same characters, and if you’re writing it weeks, months or years from now it will still be different because you are different and the world around you is constantly changing.

Writing reflects what’s going on in your mind, in your life. What you’re dealing with now - whether it’s a struggle or a dream - will be different in each new moment. Your influences will change. The person you saw at the bus stop today who made you think about loneliness in a different way won’t be there tomorrow, and that thought will never make it into your book if you’re not there in that second to see it.

Writing is an ordered reflection of your messy - often indefinable - thoughts frozen in time. Others may not recognize the pieces of you in there at all, but you can look back on your words and remember what you were feeling, even if you didn’t know what it was until it was over.

Neil Gaiman said that fiction is the lie that tells the truth. He meant it for the ways that writers use fiction to explore who we are, but I think one of the most powerful ways it does this is when it takes the writer by surprise and they remember being in a moment they didn’t notice until it passed by.
