I was raised in the California public school system and believe the Book of Genesis describes a "beginner's text" for scientific description of the beginning of the universe through to evolution - with exactly TWO steps which are out-of-order as compared to scientific knowledge.

Incidentally, my parents were not allowed to raise me. I was placed, by the California courts, into the State-funded group-home system, where half the parents were religious nutters and the other half were either hippies who believed in psychic phenomena or check-cashers who didn't care what we did or thought so long as we were there for breakfast and dinner.

So you can blame the State of California for MY upbringing.

The Gaza Strip exists because Israel was attempting to be nice and allow another attempt at the "two-state solution" which the Arabs have repeatedly destroyed starting with the division of "Transjordan Palestine" into two states by the UN. Originally, the entire thing was supposed to be Israel, but the Kingdom of Jordan was created and set aside expressly as the homeland for Arabs displaced by the creation of Israel.

The "Palestinian Liberation Organization" immediately began terrorist attacks because they did not believe Israel even had a right to exist. Because Jordan wanted a peace treaty with Israel (after invading them and losing), they outlawed the PLO and any "Palestinians" who support the PLO because they didn't want to continue to be a staging area for PLO terror attacks.

When Arabs talk about "occupied land", they don't limit themselves to the West Bank, Gaza, or the Golan Heights. They are referencing the entirety of Israel.

As to "Palestinians", no such identity existed for any Arab group before Israel's creation in 1948. Before that, the region was part of the British Mandate, created when the Ottoman Empire likewise picked a fight and lost, giving up land in exchange for peace. The Ottomans had four provinces which met in the area, none of which were "Palestine". Jerusalem was an International City, effectively its own province.

So the people who owned the land gave it to the British who let the UN create two nations out of it, and virtually the entire Arab world tried to wipe one of those off the map starting the same day it came into existence.

I weep for the people of Gaza in the same way I weep for the people of Berlin getting bombed to shit in 1945. Which is to say, I don't.

Where is the International protection the Palestinian people is entitled to when the occupying power violates international law and harms those it is obliged to protect. Aren't Palestinians lives worth saving?

It is really weird watching people say things that, in 1944, would have been equivalent to "won't someone think of the poor civilians in Hamburg".

I just got done watching someone say they should be able to write off their college loans the same way CEOs write off "private" yachts and jets - as "business expenses".

The absolute ignorance on display is stunning.

First off, no one "writes off" yachts and jets, because you only get to write off LOSSES. Not merely "expenses". Having a yacht payment isn't a "loss" and it isn't a "business expense" - specifically using the yacht to host a business-related event IS, and hey presto, because you're using your private property to support your business then the use of the yacht FOR THAT EVENT can be written off. Because, guess what? The cost of the event on behalf of your business is a LOSS of your PERSONAL income.

If you do what that moron thinks you can - just sending the IRS the invoice for your monthly payment to the yacht company - then the IRS is going to send a smiling auditor to talk to you about prison time versus coughing up some hard dosh.

Second, you can already "write off" your college expenses as a business expense - IF YOU OWN A BUSINESS, AND YOU GOT YOUR DEGREE TO ADVANCE THE NEEDS OF YOUR BUSINESS. Major corporations already do this, and have done so for most of a century now, obtaining and guaranteeing loans for employees to fill needed positions in-house. THOSE are business expenses.

What these entitled imbeciles want is to be treated like they're running their own business - and therefore taking on all the risk of failure - instead of working for someone else who will eat that same risk of failure at no cost to themselves.

Oh, and third: you never get to write off more than you owe in taxes, and it's for THAT YEAR ONLY. Did you go to college for a year and pay $20K to do so in that one year? Did your business rack up only $10K in taxes for the same year? Then you lose the other $10K because the government doesn't owe YOU anything. They're only forgiving what you already owe, in order to encourage you to invest in what THEY hope will be a successful and profitable company because that's how THEY make money in the long run.
