sometimes family is an alien in a college student’s body, a woman who crafts little magic dragons, the descendant of an ancient dragon priestess, a blind monk who was possessed by a demon at one point, a disgruntled goth environmentalist witch, a half-dragon half-alien angel girl, this one ancient-looking woman who keeps showing up and saying she’s somehow everyone’s aunt, a bunch of little sentient clay dragons, and a cat.

“I’m sorry, David. I know how much you loved her. We all did, fella. But the chances of us finding her alive are-”

   "No!“ David cried from a place deep within, a place he had hardly ever dared reach into. “She’s not gone. She’s not gone. She can't be gone.” He felt Liz’s warm arms closing around him and fell sideways into them, dropping the phone.

   "Shush,“ she whispered, singing sweet dragonsong into his ear.

   Russ’s disembodied voice spoke out near the floor.

   "I want her back,” David wailed to Liz.

   "I know,“ she said, and muted the phone. "Listen,” she whispered. “Listen to me now.” And she sang him a lullaby that could have calmed a dragon.

   And long before she was finished, he was still.

It has literally always been a lie.  These lies have killed millions of Americans over the years.  It has cost the US Trillions of dollars in lost efficiency and higher healthcare costs over the years.  It has helped drag down the life expectancy of the US, meaning, ultimately, that Americans have lost hundreds of millions of years from their lives.

It was always a lie.

The US government blocked a bill providing 14 days of paid sick leave for employees due to coronavirus.

Want to know the reason for blocking it? It would put a strain on employers. The capitalist class will always prioritize their well-being over their less wealthy fellow humans, and this is yet another example.

Profit-motivated approaches to health crises treat human life as part of a cost-benefit analysis, and capitalism is the new divine right of kings: Some people, due to their supposed rightful social status, deserve to live above all others.
