( . . . )
His nose crinkles at the lifting of his mouth and he shakes his head. “I want another run,” he huffs, running his hand through his hair that was already beginning to stick to the sheen of sweat forming along his forehead. “One more run!” he repeats again, slinking out of Ash’s grasp to hop to his feet and jogging over to the loudspeaker once more. “Then we can take a… break break.”
This wouldn’t have been the first time he’d promised a break since they began rehearsing either. Just one more - Let’s do it again - We have to go over - It should’ve been obvious that Ash’s motivation was dwindling, but Danny continued to press. “C’mon, it’ll be quick! Besides, we really need to work on the transitions more. It needs to look… really sharp on stage, you know?”
His friend’s response was to be expected, but he had hold onto that sliver of hope that had lodged in his throat at the expectation of downing a cold, fizzy drink. Now his energy, which was currently at a critical level, was being squeezed out of him like a day old balloon sadly deflating in the hands of an eager toddler. His imagination intrusively superimposed Danny’s head onto a toddler’s body, bringing much needed amusement.
‘One more run!’ Danny’s words echoed repeatedly inside his head. He couldn’t be fooled by Danny once again. He wanted to believe that a well-deserved break was near, but he was more tempted to make a break for it. He could head out of the practice room and leave his tyrant of a bestfriend behind at least until the vending machine gifted him with a treat. He would have to face Danny’s disapproving expression when he returned to the practice room, which would make any of the sweet aftertaste of his drink taste sour in his mouth.
“Danny.” He whispers, making eye-contact with the older young man in the mirror. His eyes narrow playfully at the other when he steps closer, fighting the urge to grab his friend by the shoulders and shake him. “I wouldn’t use the word ‘quick’ when you follow it with even more work. Set better expectations and I might complain less.”
“But you do have a point...” The duo had to do justice to the original performance. Anything less than perfect would be unacceptable, and he didn’t want to lower the quality of the performance when Danny always gave it his all. He would stand out for all the wrong reasons when what he wanted was synergy between him and Danny’s performance style. “What ideas do you have? Should we record ourselves? It might be easier to see what we can improve on...”

wsellie:
it seemed like fate had dropped a rapper in her life when she desperately needed one. after meeting ash by chance one day, eliana became curious about the music that he (and phoenix) had released. listening to his solo debut made her realize that his voice was exactly what she was looking for, and she hoped the younger wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to feature on her title track.  she returns his bow and accepts his gift. though she was more of a coffee drinker, she welcomed any and all caffeine into her life. “thank you, i’m sure i’ll enjoy them.” her tone was uncharacteristically friendly, eliana didn’t want to scare him off before he agreed.  “speaking of my comeback,” she pulls the laptop that was sitting on the table in front of them closer. “i was wondering if you would maybe want to feature on the title track?” eliana turns to face him, raising an eyebrow. “i think we have a similar sound.”  “it’s not self-produced, but i’ve already written my share of the lyrics and recorded a demo,” she motions to the laptop. “only if you’re up for it, of course,” she shot him a small smile. “would you like to listen to what i have so far, and then decide?”
He found himself naturally leaning forward when Ellie uttered the word ‘comeback’ with unbridled excitement and curiosity of where the conversation was leading. Would he be given a sneak peek like he had hoped when he stepped into the studio? He recalled in that moment being teased by his friends for constantly displaying his emotions. He had a horrible poker face, but he found hiding positive emotions was a complete waste. He leaned back against the seat, feeling the tip of his ears warm up and he wondered if the rest of his face had the slight shade of pink that settled there. “F-Feature?”
“I was joking, y’know?” He bit on the inside of his cheek to stop himself from ruining such a special opportunity that the young woman was offering him. He hadn’t been joking in the elevator when he flirted with the idea of one day appearing on a song together. Perhaps, Ellie was too nice and she didn’t want to disappoint him. But she truly didn’t owe him anything. He silently agreed with slight nod that their voices could compliment each other quite beautifully, which he might have added if he hadn’t found some self-restraint.
“Wait on your title track?” He felt foolish for echoing her words. “I would be honored to feature on your title track if you think I’m the right person.” He felt like any of his other members would have probably been a much better choice, especially since some of them were more experienced than he was in writing lyrics.
“I’ll try not to get too ahead of myself.” He mumbles with a soft chuckle, reaching up to sheepishly rub the back of his neck. “You are probably right. May I see what you have so far?” He shifted closer on his seat towards her with enough distance between them to remain relatively respectful. “I would love to hear your vision for what you have written so far.”

Jaein wondered if his manager had proposed the idea of assigned seating to spite him. It was a private event after all, but the members were forced to sit next to each other while the performances were ongoing. He spent most of his week with the members so any chance that he could interact with his friends, especially the ones from Wishbone Records was a rare chance that he would not be willing to pass up. Someone should have known he would turn the seating arrangement into a challenge, playing musical chairs and mingling with his other friends before he had to return to his table after the short intermission.
He finds his seat next to ( @wssoohyun ), opting to stand while the rest of the members found their way back to their table. “Hyung.” He utters in a melodic tone, draping himself over the older man without warning. He embraces one of his shoulders, resting his chin gently over the other. “I’m looking forward to Arcana’s performance. I overheard them saying that they will be performing to ‘90s Love.’”
“Are you enjoying yourself?” He had completely lost track of time and barely glanced at the members around them room when he was playing bartender. It wasn’t until he was tapped on the shoulder by their Junior Manager that he became aware of his surroundings once again. He hadn’t had this much fun in awhile. He made a mental note of thanking the staff whenever the chance arose in the future. “Do you want to go outside in a few? The sun is about to set.”

Sometimes, his carelessness could be described the familiar idiom of a bull in a china shop. His manager knew better than to let him run around without some supervision. It worsened when he was around his friends because he didn’t know when to stop. He had erratic bouts of energy, but being around his friends was less about having too much energy and more about feeling too comfortable in their presence.
The private event was the perfect chaotic atmosphere for him to be in his element. His friends from Wishbone Records and Yuseong Entertainment would be in one place and that was too special to not rejoice about when his group arrived to the venue. No one should be shocked if the noraebang station was hogged by his group of friends, or if the stage was taken over by them after the performances had ended. It was rare when he was surrounded by people his age besides the point of the event was to have fun.
He had visited the non-alcoholic bar far too many times. He had spent most of his time outside with the sun shining on him. The strawberry lemonade drink had been his favorite after his mini-sampling of the drinks. He had never been to a wine tasting, but he could only guess that was the closest experience to it. He spots ( @wstaebin ) from the bar and lifts his hand to wave him over, offering his glass to his friend without apprehension.
“Here, try this drink.” He instructs with a quick flash of a triumphant grin. “It’s mango punch with pineapple juice and some lime.” Whoever had left the bar unattended probably had not envision that the young man would decide to experiment making mocktails. He had offered his concoction with a few staff who were impressed with the mix despite it being a no-brainer combination.
Wait—
Were the staff members just being nice to appease him? His friend would hold the defining opinion.
“What do you think?”

Jae-in remembers the moment that he came across Ellie’s music. It had been a gloomy day where he was stuck inside the company van waiting for his turn in the hairstylist’s chair. The hairstylist had overbooked with another group and rather than sitting inside, he decided to stay inside the van with the windows rolled down instead of raising the stress levels of the hairstylist and the manager. He had been adding songs from random playlists, pressing the ‘next’ button repeatedly.
Usually, he was good at deciding whether he would like a song within the first thirty seconds and Ellie’s “Sunshine” was an instantly downloaded after the first five seconds. It was in it’s own little special club since there weren’t many songs that he could say that he didn’t have to force himself to like. He was disappointed that there weren’t any more songs from the artist until her second comeback. On a visit to Wishbone Records, he ran into her inside the elevator and he was brought back to that summer morning.
He knew better than to introduce himself inside an elevator, but would he listen to his inside voice for once? He greeted her as casual as he could and downplayed that he was a fan by not so jokingly offering himself up for her next album. He didn’t think much of their interaction since there was a slim chance that she knew of him, but the invitation to her studio several months later that was sent his way had surprised him.
He greets ( @wsellie )with bow, accompanying was a bright smile and a loose leaf tea sampler set wrapped in brown paper with a green bow and baby’s breath. “I heard you were recording your comeback. I wanted to get you a ‘thank you’ gift for inviting me to your studio.” He says with a soft laugh, remaining standing until took the delicate box from him. “Please accept it. If you don’t like it, you can share it with your team.”
Now seated beside her, Jae-in wondered if she had invited him to let him down easily that he wouldn’t be on the next album. But she would at least let him listen to a sneak peek, right?

He wasn’t sure what had been more shocking: seeing ( @wsdaniel ) on the other side of the barrier, or being chosen for the team he had secretly auditioned for behind his manager’s back. He remained unscathed at least for now. His accomplice, known as Phoenix’s Junior Manager, was the one that was sent to stand by the corner and report back his every move on set. He didn’t plan on misbehaving or fooling around, but he had been paired with Danny and being on his best behavior was asking a lot from him.
He occasionally glimpsed over at his manager, tilted his head and flashed a bright smile in his direction. Sometimes, the key to his survival was relying on pure charm. He currently sat on the floor during one of their several breaks, which were given primarily for the staff shooting their segment. He had a suspicion that the cameras were still rolling, and angled perfectly in their direction.
Unsurprisingly, Danny had taken the lead for their cover mission. Jae-in had eagerly followed his instructions for about three hours until his motivation took a nose dive, and he had no desire to practice the song any longer. It was rare when Danny and him argued about anything, but he thought arguing would be better than the uncomfortable silence that had settled between his friend and him.
It was a glimpse of how their daily lives would have been had the two debuted together. He was committed to giving a great performance, but he believed his friend had taken too much responsibility on when the practice room was booked for the rest of the night. It doesn’t have to be perfect from the get-go, he had mumbled under his breath several times.
“Hey, hey.” He gently prods him on the side before embracing him loosely around the shoulders with one of his arm, staring at his friend’s reflection in the mirror. “Do you want anything from the vending machine? A drink? A snack? A smile?” He reaches up with his free hand to lift one of the corners of Danny’s mouth with his index finger.

It was rare when he didn’t order delivery. In fact, he knew some drivers by name and depending on who dropped off his food, he knew whether was his order was correct or not. Besides ordering delivery was too convenient. He could continue wasting his time by watching a show or playing a video game while he waited inside the comfort of his dorm. Now that the weather was warming up and flowers were beginning to bloom, he had a good enough reason to go outside than remain in his room during his day off.
However, he had to place his order when he was already by the door, or he wouldn’t leave the dorm. He would choose to starve out of sheer laziness. He really was only an adult in terms of age like Chorong often teased him, but his survival skills were severely lacking. It was not surprising that his mother still dropped off meals for him and the rest of the members whenever she could. Maybe when he had a longer break, he could take up cooking classes or learn how to cook easy meals. For now, he would happily hide his embarrassing long list of food delivery charges behind the security of his credit card account.
To his surprise, Jaein only has to wait around for a minute for his food to be brought out. He doesn’t think much of it since the man made eye contact with him. He cradles the paper bag on his way out, curiously glancing over at the boy seated against the wall. His level of concentration was really impressive, and he silently wondered what kind of content he was watching since he could faintly hear some type of chopping sound coming from the earbuds.
He doesn’t think anything of it when he hears someone yelling after someone. He was too busy looking for his keys in his pocket to care until his path is blocked, and he finally hears the voice of the boy from earlier. “How is this yours?” He lifts the paper bag, which he assumes holds his dakgangjeong with white rice. “Why are you speaking to me? Shouldn’t you be complaining to the restaurant and not chasing after me...”
“Are you trying to get free food?” His tone was accusatory, but there was underlying concern and some sympathy. He ran into a lot of ‘volunteers’ trying to recruit him into churches, and other suspiciously inviting social clubs but the boy had been on his own and he was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. “I could buy you some if you are hungry.”
( starter for ) / * @ashws .
“but is it fresh?”
raehwan leans over the counter, craning his neck to peer back into the kitchen. the owner of the small shop purses his lips and nudges the trainee back with a knuckle pressed to his forehead. “you ask that every time you come in here and the answer is always the same - ”
he snorts, rubbing his forehead before clasping his hands under his chin, “but ahjussi! you know that i have a very sensitive stomach and with my refined palette i’ll most certainly know if you’re lying -” the old man waves him off before heading back to assist with the cooking.
sucking his teeth playfully, he resigns and flops into one of the three empty seats along the far wall of the restaurant, pulling out his phone and earbuds. a little bit of time passes and he’s too distracted by someone’s masterful dicing skills on youtube to hear an order being called or notice another customer picking it up and heading out. the old man shuffles over to his side, swatting at him with a towel. “hey, take out only.” hwan removes one earbud with a puzzled expression. “didn’t you get your food? my cook just brought it out - oh no, he must’ve given it to -”
he doesn’t wait for the elder to finish his sentence, turning over his shoulder to see the other walking towards the intersection, bag in hand. he rushes out after him, ignoring the calls from the shop. any sane person would just wait for it to be remade… but when did hwan ever claim to be sane? besides, he was already starving! “hey! hey you!” he yells out after the person waltzing off with his dinner. “that’s mine.”

Jae-in had heard of Absolute Unit through the excited albeit hushed tone of Phoenix’s Senior Manager as if the show had to be kept a secret from him. Variety wasn’t his strength at least in comparison to the other members. He could charm his way out of any conversation. His problem was remaining engaged if the topic was —in his opinion— painfully dull. The muscles of his face were far too honest, unable to hide his boredom or distaste from the viewers.
However, he didn’t think that had been the reason why he had been excluded from the conversation. He knew better than to take it personally. After all, Phoenix’s Senior Manager probably needed a much needed break from the youngest member. It was not a mutual, unspoken decision between the two of them. While his schedule was usually sparse, he had sudden moments of non-stop schedules that came out of nowhere before he had a long break with only group schedules to attend. Chaotic like him.
Luckily for him, the competition program required an audition tape to be sent rather than send out invitations for specific members. Would it be wrong to audition without letting his manager know? Maybe, but he would win him over if he made it on the show. If he didn’t make it through the audition process, then he would be prematurely worrying over nothing. After choosing a botanical garden as his shooting location, he enlists the help of his other manager to help him shoot his video.
“Phoenix’s Ash, here!” He beams at the camera, bowing at the camera properly before standing upright with impeccable posture. “Today, I’ll be auditioning for the Blue team by dancing to Blue.M’s Bloom Bloom.” He stopped himself from pointing the on the nose background of cascading blue flowers that formed a path behind him. “I associate Spring with declarations of love, and there are blossoming relationships everywhere you look... Some of us are innocently envious, and others are enjoying the beginning of something special.”
“Just like in Bloom Bloom, Low Low is full of boyish charm with a bright and catchy tune, which is why the song stood out to me the most.” He firmly nods, biting back the sheepish grin that dares tug on the corner of his lips. “If I’m chosen, I’d try my best to do it justice and portray the earnest plea of love with authenticity despite being terribly unexperienced.”
He releases a soft, airy laugh before the camera zooms closer to his face as Blue.M’s Bloom Bloom begins to play in his ear. He wouldn’t know the pain it would be to superimpose the audio later, but he didn’t want to be a nuisance in a public area. Well, at least a bigger nuisance to the staff allowed him to film half an hour before opening.

wschorong:
Going on an outing of any sort with Jaein was bound to be full of unexpected outcomes. Not that she found him too unpredictable ( if anything, she held that trait ) but she could never be certain when he felt the need to act out on his childish nature or step back into a well-behaved persona for the day. She should have expected the former, given the task at hand.
Her own goal of acting as a vulture to on-sale candy did not particularly have the markings of a one-hundred percent well-adjusted adult. If anything, could her insistence on grabbing all the visually appealing candies not be considered childish? And yet, there Jaein stood, two toy cars clutched in his oversized hands.
“Your mom is a wonderful lady so I’m not going to take that as an insult!” Internally, Chorong could be heard screeching to the high heavens that she was not at that stage in her life yet. “Though, it does feel like I’m babysitting you sometimes when we go places.” She reached into the basket to gesture at the two toys Jaein had just placed inside. Candy and miniature cars. The hallmarks of two grown ups.
“Anyway, you missed the point. You get the Valentine’s themed candy because it goes on sale after because no one really needs it. Which means… it’s mine for the taking!” She paused to firmly point at him. “And yes, I thought you knew that meant we’re sharing! But… I get most of it… of course. That’s how this business works.”
“Why would companies discount the Valentine’s themed candy the day after?” Jaein was perplexed, but he didn’t have a business or marketing degree. It didn’t make sense at all to him. However, he could understand that people moved on really quickly and looked forward to the next big event. After all, his group had pre-recorded a performance for White Day and that wouldn’t be for another month. “Shouldn’t people wait to celebrate Valentine’s Day after the day ended? Or would people consider you cheap if you did that..”
He was clueless when it came to romantic holidays. His crushes had never materialized into something meaningful, but there was no point in having a “woe is me” moment when he didn’t have the time for a relationship. In the meantime, he could live vicariously through Chorong’s conquests and humorous tales. He throws in the leftover heart-shaped lollipops into the mostly filled basket, giving her a one-shoulder shrug before walking further down the aisle with the basket. “As long as you give me one of each, I won’t sulk.”
“Since you are jealous of my cars, would you like one of these sad bears waiting for a better home than this sad bucket?” He asks her, turning to face her while holding and shaking the small brown bear with a red bow. “It’s not Miffy... but you could spare some space in your bedroom for this?”

officialphoenix Ruby, you know my heart, right? I only need you.
I hope we did justice to Crescent’s Last Romeo. It was fun preparing such a special stage for Ruby. No matter what hardships come, Ruby and Phoenix will walk on one path! Thank you for all the love.
Secondly, thank you to the staff and the artists, especially the Blue.M members that I was lucky to have shared the stage with for Lovesick Music. 💥

( . . . )
“stand back, helpless citizen.” he declares, knocking on each stall door as he nears the one with said helpless citizen. has the belief that he could differentiate the hollowness of the knocking sound that reverberates against the almost empty bathroom, “i’m thinking about kicking it down, but the door might knock you out in the process— so, i’ll refrain from doing that.” although, it doesn’t stop him from ramming his shoulder against the door, hearing the bolts jiggle out of place— something definitely broke.
he backs away, “uh— that doesn’t sound very good. have you tried climbing out?” a prompt fart echoing from the stall beside, “uh— maybe don’t try climbing out.” more afraid that the other would climb straight into the stall of someone chucking a fat dump. “maybe if you close your eyes and try to climb ou— maybe i should just kick down the door. maybe you should kick down the door.”
“helpless citi—” he mutters with a soft huff, trailing off because he was indeed helpless in more ways than one and he could imagine the series of laughter if anyone found out that he got stuck inside a bathroom stall. his current situation was beyond embarrassing, unpleasant memories pricking at the back of his mind from years back when he had been in a similar predicament. the only difference was that he had walked into the bathroom stall and parker decided he wanted to play an action hero instead of finding an actual, helpful solution. “maybe, don’t do that for my sake.”
of course, his response is a split second too late and the door ends up in worse condition. he could tell that bolts were rusty, but he could picture his manager’s face when he told him about having to notify the maintenance department of the broken door even though it hadn’t been him for once. he could technically walk away with parker and pretend like it hadn’t been him, but the disruptive scent coming from next door informed them that parker and him weren’t alone.
“hey, why didn’t you say anything?” he lightly smacks the divider, turning his attention back to parker. another fart interrupts their conversation. he wants to laugh at himself, the situation, and the unlucky third party whose predicament was more even more embarrassing than his own. if he was in his position, he wouldn’t be able to leave the stall until everyone else had left the bathroom. “sure, let me climb out and break something else.”
“the door opens towards me. so, i’ll stand on the toilet and you can, uh, kick it a few times?” he steps further back into the stall, standing on the toilet like he said he would. “it’s rusty. it shouldn’t require too much force, but think of my face when you do. not for inspiration when you kick it...”

Ash could confidently proclaim that Phoenix's senior manager was like no other manager employed in Yuseong Ent., or any other company if he wanted to take it a step further on the exaggeration scale. He was purely instinctive, and had eyes like a hawk. Secrets were impossible to keep at least for Ash. Maybe the senior manager was clairvoyant.
He had a few other theories, but that one was the most compelling. He had awoken to disapproving eyes and for once, he was adamant that he had done nothing wrong except for throwing away a somewhat ‘usable’ tube of toothpaste. It was a moment that ended on the agreement to respectfully disagree, but really, if he had to cut open the tube, it wasn’t worth saving, right?
He swore he was it over when he retold the silly argument in the company van. It was riveting storytelling. Some of the members had nodded to appease him, and others had dozed off the younger’s grumpy voice. It was like the senior manager had been there all along. He receives another disapproving expression from the older man when he steps out of the van, but this one was more on the lines of ‘do not get in trouble or else.’ He was desperate to make an escape, preferably towards Blue.M’s waiting room, but he makes a detour towards the bathroom.
It wouldn’t be a regular day for him if the locking mechanism of the stall’s door becomes stuck. While he contemplates escaping from the top, he hears the door swing open. “Finally.” He mumbles through a relieved exhale, jiggling the finicky handle to make the point before he does. “Can you help me? I’m stuck...”

wschorong:
"Ahem... A-ahem! ...Jaein!" More urgent than Chorong's voice, her finger prodded at the taller of the two's shoulder. She peered in closer to observe the fingernail sinking into the fabric of his jacket. It almost appeared as if the bunny painted on the tip was being drowned by it.
"Are you even listening to me?" She took her hand away to place it firmly on her hip. ( Could one even be certain that she even listened to herself? )
Chorong lowered her volume and reached for two of the packets of candy left on the shelf. One being Reeses in the shape of hearts and the other: gummies also in the shape of hearts.
Upon closer inspection she concluded that those marketing the products needed to get more creative. Whatever happened to chocolate roses and and cupid jellies? Surely, the only good thing about Valentine's Day or White Day was the influx of sales on chocolates and other assorted sweets. As if either of them even needed them ㅡ but such was the reason she brought her friend with her. He could easily bar her from shoving the whole aisle in her basket.
She furrowed her brows, indicative of a firm pout, concealed by the mask she put on to hide her identity. "You have to choose which candies you want. Otherwise, I'm not buying anything for you like I said I would..."
While Chorong perused the candy aisle, he had found himself looking through the toys aisle, but the miniature cars had caught his attention. A challenger and a corvette had caught his eyes, and he was carrying them around the store like a child waiting for his parents’ approval to buy them. He had barely felt the prod on her shoulder, but he had felt the shift in her demeanor. He threw in the two toys inside their basket, finally glancing at the mostly empty shelves in front of them.
The following words escaped him in the form of a faint whine: “Why do you sound like my mom?” His aim was that Chorong would take his words as a personal affront. It wouldn’t be a typical outing if one of the two didn’t take a dig at each other, or for him to cowardly walk away from her in fear of a much more savage retaliation. It was all in the name of light-hearted fun between friends, who truly acted more like siblings.
“You chose the wrong time to come to the store to buy candy.” Okay, that wasn’t helpful. Her grabbed the two bags of candies from her, placing them in the basket without care. “Can’t we buy regular candy? It would probably taste the same.” He understood the gimmick of Valentine themed candy, but the heart-shape didn’t elevate the taste of the chocolate. They were just paying for pretty packaging.
“Wait, are we going to be sharing?”
And if Chorong was paying, he should start acting more interested in their candy run.
