luvena: [not liking the images his words resurrected of visits sat looking at his bruised features, luvena went quiet for a moment.] maybe i should come find you. walk you home for walking me home, y'know? [she finally spoke after a moment, trying to keep her tone light.] then i'll just have to buy you more won't i? even if it is just some boring ballpoint blue pens. they didn't have to be artistic, they came from you and that's all that mattered. [her tone was a lot more genuine as a smile came back onto her features.] what's this? [she gave a dramatic gasp.] was that a compliment i heard for someone who isn't me? now that hurts. hurts worse that it was for jackson, but i suppose i can agree. he isn't that bad. he's a pretty great dude, but if you tell him i said that i'll deny it. [she gave a small laugh.] considering i manage to make you smile, but not only that laugh, i'd say we get along exceptionally well. thank you very much. and yes, i'm counting the smiles that you try to hide from me, because i know those are plenty.
asher: [a moment of silence between the pair causes a soft frown to fall upon his features, realising that his bad attempt at a joke perhaps wasn’t well-received.] oh lu, i was joking. it’s fine. /i’m/ fine. [he tries his best to sound reassuring.] anyway, we’d be just as well sleeping out in the streets in that case, or would that be your not-so-subtle way of hinting that you’d wanna stay over? [he teases, attempting to lighten the mood a little.] well, if you’re buying then who am i to say no? i’ll maybe even switch to black ink just to /really/ be adventurous. okay, but it must’ve still been a /little/ anti-climatic compared to yours, let’s be honest. no such thing as gel pens and stickers in that place, how ever would you cope? [a laugh escapes him at her dramatic gasp.] god, i know. i can hardly believe it myself. don’t get too jealous, though. [he jokes, pausing once more to switch his phone over to his other hand.] okay, fine. you’ve got yourself a deal. neither of us will breathe a word of this. trust me, we’ll be doing ourselves a favour. we’d never hear the fucking end of it. [he laughs along with her.] yeah, yeah. well, y’know, i guess you’re kinda funny or whatever. only sometimes though, so don’t get too ahead of yourself. [his tone of voice was somewhat sarcastic.] what, is this you trying to break a personal record or something? i think you’ll find i have a /great/ sense of humour.

Mars tried not to bounce on their heels as she stood waiting for the door to open, knowing that it would almost certainly end in an avalanche of groceries. Her muscles burned with pent up energy, and she was practically vibrating with the effort it took to stand still as they listened to Asher’s footsteps on the other side of the door. His lethargy was obvious even just from the rhythm of his feet dragging across the apartment, but Mars was never one to let that stop her. A grin spread its way across their face when Asher finally opened the door, “ Hi !! Not a food bank, just my very dear friend who I’m afraid will waste away from malnutrition if I leave you to your own devices. ” They pushed their way into the apartment, bumping her shoulder gently against his as she passed him and made a beeline directly to his kitchen. It was easy to make herself at home; they had cooked there so often that they knew their way around as if it were their own apartment. “ I hope you’re hungry !! ” They called over their shoulder as she started to unpack the bags that she had brought. “ I also hope you have something to drink other than tap water, because that is the one thing I forgot to bring. ”
a somewhat bemused expression still lingering on his features, the male lets out a scoff at mars’ greeting. “waste away from malnu—” he repeats; though, he pauses mid-sentence, sparing a glance down at himself. alright, fair enough. perhaps plain bagels weren’t a sufficient choice of dinner food. “—ha ha, hilarious. i never knew i was friends with so many comedians.” a dryness was still very much present in his tone of voice. “i'm doing fine, though. thanks.” before he could even so much as think of changing his mind, mars had already invited themselves inside, their shoulder bumping against his upon entering for good measure – well, as far as he was concerned, ‘good’ wasn’t quite the correct word. another exasperated breath escapes him and, for a moment, asher remains at the door, the now-empty hallway staring back at him; contemplating making his escape to next door. then again, if remy’s party was anything to go by, it would be all of five minutes before mars discovered that he was missing. “starving.” he calls back as he pushes the door closed; again, making a point of sounding as unenthusiastic about his friend’s impromptu visit as possible. of course, his demeanour was nothing more than an act; the pair having shared one of mars’ home-cooked dinners many a time before. “well, i hate to be the bearer of bad news—” he begins, heading towards the kitchen. “—but tap water it is. barely.” he leans against the doorframe. “there might be something in the fridge, who knows.” he shrugs somewhat, folding his arms; watching as she unpacks the groceries. “so, i'm dying to know what i've done to have been slotted into your busy schedule. let me guess – everyone else is “busy” so you thought you’d come and bug me?”

[she repeated with a small laugh] i think jackson is allergic to good advice. probably was trying to teach him his award winning grump face in order to scare people away. but it's sweet of you to have so much faith in him, i promise i won't tell him how much you admire him. [the tease came with ease.] you're a people person. i'm people. i'd argue i'm the worst kind of people and we've always gotten along great, haven't we ?
asher: well, y’know, plenty more where that came from /behind/ bars too. trust me. [he half-jokes in a somewhat self-deprecating manner, another light laugh escaping him. well, /he/ found it funny anyway.] y’know, i’d love to but i think all of mine are out of ink. [his tone of voice was, of course, teasing.] let’s be real, we both know /mine/ weren’t much in the way of artistic. then again, the burst biro pen was kinda “abstract” or whatever. [he jokes once more, pausing again momentarily to dodge past another pedestrian.] oh, ha ha. yeah, i’d maybe keep that one between us. don’t want to encourage his ego any more. [he laughs again.] nah, credit where credit’s due, he’s not /that/ fucking dreadful. [he can’t help but scoff at her statement.] please, you’re hardly the /worst/, lu. anyway, depends on what your definition of “great” is. we’ve sure gotten along. [again, it was nothing more than a tease].
