"His eyes closed to just feel. Snippets of verse floated through his mind.
In the columned halls, we embrace
His cheek rests against mine
Happiness like this comes once
in a thousand years"
Captive Prince by C.S.Pacat
Erasmus and Kallias, our tragic lovers.

"Damen stood, his sword in his hands, and tried not to feel small, like a younger brother."

I love how Auguste haunts the narrative in a pretty traditional sense (and it is devastating) but Kastor also does this. The kind brother Damen knew doesn't exist anymore, we witness his death right at the beginning of the book and then Damen drags his corpse to the end of the book. Kastor is as much of a haunting ghost for Damen as Auguste is for Laurent. Damen still hoping that his brother is in there and it's not just his body with a stranger inside it. Two older brothers dearly loved, both dead from the start.

“No,” Nik said. He moved his arm away brusquely, as if that would say what he couldn’t.
Kastor scoffed. He reached out and dragged Nik’s arm back across the warm marble of the bench, pulled his hand into his lap. The strength of the movement wrenched at Nik’s shoulder. Just a little. Kastor had never known his own strength.
“Don’t be coy, Nikandros. She wants you.”
Sweat prickled at the back of his neck. He didn’t want to hear this. But Kastor had cornered him— no. He had been waiting, like the dog he was, for Kastor, where he always waited for Kastor in the drowsy afternoons of late summer, when Damianos had his usual standing appointment with whichever Kyrina had entranced him that week. Of course, this summer it wasn’t a Kyrina at all.
It was a Jokaste. She - splendid, glowing - was Jokaste.
“She is Damianos’ lady—“
“Who?” Kastor said incredulously. “You forget yourself, Kyros.”
But there was a smile hiding in the corner of his mouth. He liked it when Nikandros forgot honorifics for Damen. He did not see it for the affection that it was meant - he saw it as a deliberate insult. And it pleased him. It made Nikandros sick to think of. And then he went and lifted his skirts for Kastor anyway, which made him feel sicker.
anyway!!! paging tumblr user @hennike

i’ve read and reread all kallias x erasmus fics on ao3, scrolled through their tag a million times, there’s an unjustly limited amount of media on them for me to consume!!! i love them so much they are so tragic but so beautiful they’re my favorite ever <3 i reread the training of erasmus like a million times to get a better description for kallias but it’s literally so vague other than blue eyes, dark brown curls, and super beautiful so i made due with that lol. if anyone loves them too pls talk to me so we can scream about them together pls

“Laurent’s attention had returned to Aimeric, drawing close to him, so that they faced one another. Like a lover, Laurent smiled and touched a stray curl, tucking it behind Aimeric’s ear. Aimeric flinched, violently, then repressed the flinch, though he wasn’t able to control his breathing.
Tenderly, Laurent drew a fingerprint through the blood that welled from Aimeric’s split lip.
‘Pretty face,’ said Laurent. Then his fingers dropped back to brush Aimeric’s jaw, tilting it up as though for a kiss.”

“Blood had soaked into his sleeve, had pooled out over the table and the tiled floor, but it was old. He had been like this for hours, long enough for the blood to darken, for his movements to cease, for a stillness to invade the room, until it was as still as Laurent, staring at him with sightless eyes.”

“Laurent knew what was happening. Damen, who had seen the long, empty corridor, dark and quiet and absent of men, knew also.
“I don’t think the Prince is in an amorous mood,’ said Damen, neutrally.”
