As a disclaimer this isn’t all my thoughts in one place it’s just stream of consciousness and I have more in my head to elaborate i just dont feel like it right now lol i just wanted this out of my head

Cheka in the picture sooner.  While harmless, he’s another source of frustration for Leona’s struggles with his position in the royal family, and one that Leona can’t actually snap at save for his pissy attitude and snaps.  

With Cheka comes inevitable discussions of Farena, and hearing praise about him and how great he is leaving a sour taste in Leona’s mouth.  Cheka’s too young to understand Leona’s dynamic with the rest of the family, and definitely holds Leona in high-esteem as well, but he’s bound to say something unintentionally careless that hits a raw nerve with Leona and makes his resentment fester.  It isn’t Cheka fault and Leona’s smart enough to know that, but fuck does it hurt how far the rumours and comparisons have gotten back in the Afterglow Savannah.

Probably a bit more talk of comparisons between Savanaclaw-Diasomnia and Leona-Malleus by extension.  Leona hates being compared to others in general, and to be compared to someone else that people seem to hold in higher regard to him would just aggravate that.

Apart from Jack, Leona has strong support from the Savanaclaw dorm.  Honestly, just having Jack confront Leona bit earlier on would be a nice idea.  Maybe someone that points out how Leona can’t expect to be the Best of the Best when he barely puts any effort into anything, which, considering Leona does that precisely because he assumes there’s no point in trying anymore, would make his belief that “nothing I do is ever good enough” come to attention sooner, rather than right before he Overblots.

Speaking of Overblots, thematically, it makes sense that Ruggie’s the one at the front lines of sabotaging other Magift teams.  After all, Scar uses the hyenas to start the stampede in the first place.  And since Ruggie isn’t under the same mental/emotional pressure Leona is, him not having significant blot is fine.  However, taking into account the suggestions above, little and big things that irritate Leona…

I think it’d be interesting for him to lowkey use King’s Roar as a way to vent frustration.  Making random objects turn to sand when no one notices, or overhearing conversations about Diasomina’s victories in Magift/performance in general from down the hall, near stairs, then, boom, one of the steps just turns to sand.  Just random build-up like that that increase in frequency the closer to the climax we get.  We get hints that it’s Leona’s ability without it coming to an explicit head until later on when his sabotage plan is exposed.

Overall, a lot of the important things about Leona are saved until waaaay too late into Episode 2 for them to have a decent impact.  Even small, little things like this introduced a bit earlier would help Leona’s character development in it.
