Roadtrip - ZoomZooming to Deception Pass
Roadtrip – ZoomZooming to Deception Pass
I have been remiss. My husband transplanted to my native state, Washington of course, after the military and we have lived up here for around 8 years now and I still hadn’t taken him to see Deception Pass.
It was about damn time, but we didn’t just take any car – we took the 2015 Mazda3 and it was the perfect car for the job.

Lord Hill Regional Park: Come for the outdoors, get engines
Lord Hill Regional Park: Come for the outdoors, get engines
The sun streams through the forest on this blue-skied day. The trails are wet, but useable, with bad mud only in a few areas.
Always on the search for the great hike, AON Media recently went to Lord Hill Regional Park in Snohomish County, near Monroe and Snohomish.

Battle of the Mazdarati – the 2015 versus the 1996 Mazda Miata
Battle of the Mazdarati – the 2015 versus the 1996 Mazda Miata
I love this car, and so does the sakura blossom!
It’s no secret that I love my Miatas. I daily drive a beautiful 1996 Mazda Miata M-Edition that’s Starlight Mica Blue. So, when I got a chance to drive one of the newest models of Miata, I jumped at the chance to see how they compare. Would I need to upgrade to a newer roadster soon?
This is the first Battle of the Mazdarati.

X Marks the tailgate party with the 2014 Jeep Renegade
At the Seattle Auto Show, Jeep introduced Seattle to a new 4×4 vehicle to its outdoors lineup, but the addition doesn’t have the looks of your average Jeep.
Tumblr media
Yes, the Jeep Renegade has that unmistakable Jeep front end and is said to have good off road capabilities when compared to other small SUVs, yet there’s something very quirky about the newest addition to the Jeep family.
And I like that.

A flock of Fiats at the Seattle Auto Show
The Fiat 500 Abarth is a fierce looking hot hatch that will take you from zero to 60 in less than seven seconds. While it’s fast, it’s not the only Fiat 500 on display at the Seattle Auto Show, held at CenturyLink Field this weekend.
There are many cars to see at the Seattle Auto Show, held at CenturyLink Field this weekend, but not many with the spunk and attitude of the…

2014 Seattle Auto Show rolls into CenturyLink Field
This weekend, the annual Seattle Auto Show will highlight almost 500 vehicles from car manufacturers around the globe, along with local auto-centered companies, engaging your gearhead nature and providing great entertainment for your friends or family (or both).
Tumblr media
From Subaru, Honda, and more showcasing the latest in sedan, SUV, and Cross-over goodness, to Jeepls new Renegade and the Chevrolet Colorado, to high end cars you'll only (usually) get to see on a showroom floor or on a movie screen, such as a McLaren MP4-12C or the Corvette Stingray.
Tumblr media
For those wanting a more hands on experience, about a dozen manufacturers will be offering free test drives of the latest models. After you’re done looking in and around names like Scion and Toyota, you can head out to the garage and sign up for a free roll around the block – trip comes with free, in-car auto-rep.
Tickets for the Seattle Auto Show are $14 for adults and $11 for seniors over 62, while children under 12 get in for free. E-tickets can be purchased online for easy admittance.
CenturyLink’s doors open for the Seattle Auto Show at:
Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While the Seattle Auto Show may not have the pomp and circumstance that Paris or New York auto shows may have, it will still get your gearhead heart pumping. Check it out this weekend only at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.

2016 Mazda Miata Livetweet Stream!!
2016 Mazda Miata Livetweet Stream!!
Tumblr media
I’ve been waiting for this moment for what seems like a billion years.
I’m absolutely in love with my the official media car of AON Media, the Mazdarati – a 1996 Mazda Miata M-Edition (in Starlight Mica Blue). She has gone scuba diving, on Canadian dirt rally roads, and safely transported me and my husband everywhere we need to go.
As Mazda Unveils their newest incarnation of the MX-5, I’ll be…

This piece of artwork, called ‘Projections and Reflections on the moment’ created by Ken Turner, will be live at Carkeek Park until October.
When you’re done wading through the crowds of crazy shoppers hungry for Labor Day sales and you need to get away – quickly – then head down to Carkeek Park, just west of the Northgate Mall in Seattle.
This small slice of heaven has a little for everyone, all packed onto 220 acres of prime waterfront and trail crossed forest. The added bonus is its’ only nine miles away from Westlake, and the rest of downtown, but will be less trafficked than other, more well known parks.
If you’re looking to get away from people, in general, then hit the outer trails for a good walk through the woods. There is a northern and southern trail system; look behind the kid’s playground for an entrance to the northern trails and just past the sign before the overpass and across the green for an entrance to the southern pass.
Or you could use this handy map.
This is the Seattle Parks official map of Carkeek Park. Image Credit: Seattle Parks, http://bit.ly/Cark33kM4P
Speaking of the playground – it makes me wish I was 6 again so I could go down the Salmon Slide or run around the grassy knoll like a crazy soul while my friends chased me… But, that’d just be a little weird as an adult. The playground offers swings, slides, and a wide variety of toys in between. If that doesn’t suit your fancy, then bring your own and play in the spacious lawns (there’s three of them!).
In the Fall, the sun starts dropping right towards the south, disappearing behind Bainbridge Island for exceptional views. Photo taken in 2013.
When you’re done with your hike or your playground stay, then finish your Carkeek experience at the beachfront. Just across a pedestrian overpass for the railroad – sometimes commuter and sometimes commercial – tracks, this sandy and smooth-rock outcrop is a great place to relax. Looking out across the sound, you’ll catch glimpses of different ships (and even the ferry on a clear day!), but its’ the sunsets that you’ll want to stay for.
The park closes at dusk, so the sunset is also the last thing you’ll stay for!
