2024 is about going back to the basics for me. i cancelled my spotify subscription and with that money i bought an mp3 player, i always carry my digital camera with me. i have cleaned my wii and i play with it some afternoons when i have some free time. i'm buying clothes that give me 2000s vibes. on weekends i watch movies or tv shows on dvd. i try to listen to my cds and vinyls. i write on my journal before sleep and read a little. life is beautiful

for context: this year I’m assembling my brother’s photo album for Christmas, it’s 29 years worth of photo’s (ahhh) but it’s made me realize, once again, just how much nicer life pre-social media was, like I keep finding so many envelopes of friends and family just sending pictures -of themselves, of us- with little notes attached saying ‘Just sharing a memory, how are you?’. and I dunno I just think that’s so, so nice. Heartfelt, thoughtful, sincere… wish it was still like that. How uplifting to receive that in the mail :) …. (absolutely no clue what to do with these photo’s though, stuffing ‘em back in the box I guess)

I hate hbo max. I hate Disney +. I hate Amazon prime. I hate streaming platforms that treat their staff and creators like donkey shit. I hate that they don’t compensate for rewatches or popularity and can’t even take out the fucking commercials. I hate our monthly fees for media that can just be put in the vault and written off as if it never existed. I hate our reliance on mega corporations for our daily serotonin. I want weekly shows where I can theorize with my friends. I want dvds to be popular again. I want no commercials and for my favorite creators to be paid to imagine a better world than this.

Zelda is right. Return the rights. They're taking off all this shit for tax purposes and so that they don't have to pay residuals but worse than that, for a great deal of projects, they also own the rights meaning these projects can never be available anywhere else.
