Design Choices
Tumblr media
This architecture design stood out to me recently. Taking a treehouse to the next level, this design makes the imagination practical.

I also have been a fan of the 100, so I can see how your post expresses this dynamic perfectly! I can sympathize with the anger felt by fans regarding Clarke and Bellamy’s paths splitting, but I also saw upon reflection how that split made sense with the storyline at the time and how much mutual respect they developed for one another that they could let go, purely wanting happiness for each other.

• share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
Tumblr media
Acknowledging the intensity of fans' emotional investment in Clarke and Bellamy's relationship in the 100, helps me understand the anger within the fandom. Fans often develop strong attachments to characters and their relationships, projecting their own desires and expectations onto the story. When those expectations aren't met, it can lead to frustration and disappointment, sometimes manifesting as anger. By recognizing the depth of fans' feelings, I can better understand why some may express anger over the outcome of Clarke and Bellamy's story arc.

I think your idea to make the comment personal is a great touch. Maybe another good addition would be making a comment specific to the show and how regretful the show is to see that specific aspect end. That would help the fan get a sense of relatability, and that the fans aren’t isolated from the TV show company.

share a section of your Design Project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise?
Tumblr media
Here is one of my response as well an initial post by an angry customer. In my response I wanted to think how would a company respond? One thing I made sure was to always add the same one line "We appreciate the support you have given us, thank you!" to each comment. Although, I also added a personal comment with it, that way it is not something that is automated throughout. Do you think the personal comment is a good touch, or do you think I should change anything to it?

Wow, I really love the clean design for this sample post. The one suggest I would have is maybe underlining and changing the color of the hashtag so viewers can clearly see it’s a hashtag link instead of just text.

Here is my announcement post for the design project. I wanted to word it in a way that seemed sympathetic towards fans while also providing a hashtag for fans to respond.

Using well-designed, eye-catching acronyms to communicate concepts and steps is a wonderful idea for this guide! Your headers are clear and very relevant to the topic.

This is how I am laying out my pivot guide. I wanted it to be short and sweet and to the point. I will have a second page that has the posts to show the "intern" examples.

Design Project Content -1
Tumblr media
Here’s my one post I have written up as well as an angry fan response. I’m now plugging these written posts into an in-context to make them look like real tweets, but is there a specific app or website that you all have found that works specifically well? I’m intending these to look like they’re a tweet on X/Twitter.

Favorite TV show
My current favorite show is Revenge, an older ABC show airing for 4 seasons. Although I’m not quite through all the seasons yet, fans commonly get angry over the bad luck that seems to always come the way for the one character, Jack. He’s made to be a very likeable character, yet the producers keep making unfortunate life events happen to him. There are so many deaths in this show, and many seem to be for no reason which also is infuriating to fans. One specific death of the main character’s on-and-off again love interest dies suddenly without barely any leadup that made sense, which threw fans for a loop. This example has helped me work through understanding angry fandom as I can put myself in their shoes, and understand their feelings.

Fan experience - show cancellation
Tumblr media
This is the CW show the 100, which I experienced being cancelled after 7 seasons. This happened awhile ago, but I remember feeling sad but also nostalgic at the same time. The show had a good run but as fans we could collectively agree it was time to lay it to rest and the storyline needed an ending. The last episode was extremely nostalgic, which helped fans bear the brunt of it being the last they’d see of the show.

Question for transferring skills in this class to the real world: What aspects of web writing that we learned in this class extend beyond the screen and impact our interactions with clients, coworkers, etc. in person versus online?

DESIGN
Tumblr media
This is a cover for a publication design I was working on this week. This is an example of good design because it communicates to the reader the purpose of the publication and previews what the content inside will be without going into much detail. No cover for any publication should overwhelm the viewer and discourage them from reading; thus, design choices were made embracing simplicity to effectively draw in the reader’s attention.

Yes!! Great job highlighting these principles of design, as a graphic designer myself these are elements that become natural to implement the more experience you have in the field.
Tumblr media
When I think of design, I think of the principles of design that are related to art. I love art, and a piece of art can have so much more appeal when it is developed using these principles. I think of the principle of movement in art a lot.

Thumbnail quality is an aspect I was just made aware of, so that’s really cool you studied that for your content analysis. It’s an element that is subconsciously overlooked but determines audience engagement significantly.
Original Content 3
write a style rule for creating an Instagram reel - why is this key for the Instagram followers?
Some style rules for creating an Instagram reel is keep the video short, have a enticing thumbnail, and make sure to use hashtags! Shorter videos are more likely to be liked because people are able to watch the entire video if its short. My content analysis project was about the effects of thumbnail and levels of engagement, so I believe it is important for creators of reels to have a good thumbnail that is "click-worthy".

Appeal of Youtube
Today, I learned an interesting fact - ever wondered why most Youtube videos are over 10 minutes? Well, it has to do with bigger content creators especially. In order for Youtube creators to make money off of their videos, they have to be at least 10 minutes long!! This allows Youtube to place ads in their videos. This, however, means Youtubers have a harder time getting their viewers to stay and watch the entire video. They must plan out their content and not use too many fillers as this will cause the audience to click away. Regardless, if viewers like your content enough, they’ll stay especially if there is incentives throughout.

Style for Instagram Reel
Always, always, always keep your reel short, no matter what. If people want to watch a long video, they’ll go to Youtube. The audience is on Reels because they want a quick video and have a short attention span. Consolidate your content into preferably a minute-long video at the most. If you have a lot to communicate, grab their attention with a statement and write your content in the description.

Style for Tumblr Posts
One style rule I’d highly recommend to get your post noticed is a combination of a very short header text and image combination. The image should reflect the goal of your post, made verbalized by your heading. Or, your heading can not communicate much if it’s an attention grabber, but then your image should portray the message of your post. These elements should work together instead of being too busy and this fighting each other.

Check-In: Web Writing in the Real World
Tumblr media
I know in this class we are encouraged to think and over-think and analyze web situations and create solutions. Although I see the importance of this, I can’t help but think that in some situations you have to rely on critical thinking skills and no guide or practice scenario can solve every web solution. Is this true? Does web writing need to be based in so much over-thinking, or can you rely on experience after practicing it for a while?

These are great takeaways you highlighted!! The biggest struggle for me in the HTWG was summarizing and writing efficiently.
Content Creation
Overall, my content creation went pretty good. Some things that I learned in the content creation that I will use to help me write my tips in tricks are that it is important to separate the sections, have clear language for your audience, and the importance of not overwhelming the audience with too much content at once. Being able to have a clear message in a good amount of words allows your reader to read quickly and efficiently.
