“You always do this... you do everything alone.”
It’s touching that Nanahara knows his boss so well. Yashiro has always been like that.
When he was a child and he was abused and it was tough he carried the burden and pain alone and by himself tried his best to cope with it.
When he grew up he still coped with the effects of that childhood trauma alone in his own way.
And then he had a friend.. but still had to face the world alone. Kageyama was always there and remained by his side but he is still alone. All his thoughts, all his pain, he still bore them alone.
When life became tough for the both of them and he needed to become yakuza, he walked that path alone. He chose to be alone without telling anybody of what he went through and what is truly in his heart.
And then he came. The man who won’t leave him alone. He can kick him, throw him out of his life, verbally lash at him, but still he’ll be there. The burdens he wants to carry, the pain he is enduring and the war he is in, Doumeki will follow him and walk that path together with him and will not let him be alone.
That’s why that is the first thing in his mind - “Why”.. because he is not used to it. because he has always been alone.
