Shimanami Tasogare
It is an amazing manga with an almost entirely LGBT+ cast and talks a lot about gender identity, sexuality and troubles faced by those within the LGBT+ community (especially for younger members). Also it is fucking BEAUTIFUL.
Kamatani Yuuki’s use of imagery and visual metaphors never fails to take my breath away.
Please just read the damn manga.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru
(a.k.a. Bloom Into You)
I really want to read this manga. It’s well-written, has good characters, and is gay. But every time I read a bit Yuu’s struggles with wanting to like but not liking, with feeling unable to feel, with confusion and obligation, it all strikes an aro chord that still kinda hurts, I guess. I don’t really have anything to say about this, except that I hate how relatable she is more me. I don’t want to see her fall in love and I don’t want to see her not.

Winter 2019 (part 1)
Manaria Friends
Other Titles: Mysteria Friends, Rage of Bahamut: Manaria Friends, マナリアフレンズ, Shingeki no Bahamut: Manaria Friends
Source: game
Studio: Cygames
Genre: fantasy, school, slice of life
Mysteria Academy is a prestigious magic school that teaches magic without discrimination to the three factions (men, gods, demons), who usually are engaged in battle with each other. Two of the academy's students are Anne, a princess and honor student, and Grea, a princess born from a dragon and a human.
I can’t tell if this is going to be a chill slice of life show or an edgy action show but I suspect the former. It’s based on yet another app game. It appears to be about a human and demon girl being bffs. -Ace
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
Other Titles: 盾の勇者の成り上がり, The Rising of the Shield Hero
Source: light novel
Studio: Kinema Citrus
Genre: isekai, harem, fantasy
Stories of old tell of four otherworldly heroes—wielding the sword, spear, bow, and shield—who defended the land from wave after wave of calamity. With the fate of the world in balance, the kingdom of Melromarc summons these legendary figures; in modern-day Japan, the call is answered, and the unwitting heroes are transported to this fantasy universe.
Thrust into Melromarc and given the title of "Shield Hero," otaku Naofumi Iwatani is labeled the weakest due to his lack of offensive capability and apparent inexperience. When the heroes part ways to start their journeys, he only has one willing companion: the beautiful princess Malty Melromarc. However, she soon betrays him, steals all his money, and accuses him of taking advantage of her.
For his alleged crimes, Naofumi is branded a criminal and made an outcast of society. With hatred filling his heart, he sets out alone, vowing vengeance against those who wronged him.
Not one of the more interesting isekai, but certainly one of the more popular ones. I’m kind of sick of the whole slave moe thing sooo...his first harem member is a slave girl from what I remember. -Ace
Boogiepop wa Warawanai
Other Titles: ブギーポップは笑わない, Boogiepop Doesn’t Laugh
Source: light novel
Studio: Madhouse
Genre: supernatural, horror, school
There is an urban legend that tells of a shinigami that can release people from the pain they are suffering. This "Angel of Death" has a name—Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real. When a rash of disappearances involving female students breaks out at Shinyo Academy, the police and faculty assume they just have a bunch of runaways on their hands. Yet some students know better. Something mysterious and foul is afoot. Is it Boogiepop or something even more sinister...?
The original series was pretty influential in terms of light novel history. Maybe it’ll be less fan-servicey, being from the 90′s? The character designs certainly remind me of that time. I’ll watch for nostalgia’s sake. -Ace
Egao no Daika
Other Titles: エガオノダイカ, The Price of Smiles
Source: original
Studio: Tatsunoko
Genre: mecha, military, slice of life, drama
On a planet far from Earth, there is a kingdom full of smiling faces. Princess Yuuki is 12 years old, and about to enter a sensitive age in a person's life. Everyday, she cries, laughs, and sometimes, her heart throbs with excitement. All the while, she lives merrily in the royal palace.
Filling her days are her loyal vassals: her tutor Reira, Izana who assists in political affairs, the leader of the chivalry Harold … and then there is her childhood friend and aide Joshua.
"Yuuki! If you have spirit and guts, you can do anything!"
"…No, not this again! Joshua, be nobler!"
Stella is 17 years old and a capable, reserved soldier. However, she is always smiling ... for smiling is essential to living.
This is a story of two girls born on distant planets.
Sounds like the kind of show where cute girls suffer and grow as people and stuff. I feel like it’ll have a sad ending. -Ace
W’z
Other Titles: ウィズ
Source: original
Studio: GoHands
Genre: supernatural, music
Yukiya, who is "probably" 14 years old, spends his time DJ-ing alone. Due to his father's influence, he's listened to house music since he was young, and he uploads videos online. He wants to convey something to someone. He wants to be recognized, and become important. But getting hurt is scary. One day, while trying to get more views, he does something that can't be undone. And he sees a live broadcast from "that world." Yukiya believes he can't do anything alone, but that he could accomplish something if he were doing it together with someone else.
The sequel to Hand Shakers, an anime no one remembered let alone asked for a sequel of. It’s based around EDM. Maybe Yukiya will be more interesting than his predecessors? He’s got this friend he needs to protect all the time but nowhere mentions romance so maybe they’re just friends? Geez, I hope so. I need a good friendship. -Ace

It makes me sad when super valid points like “boys and girls can just be friends” and “don’t assume they’re in love just because they enjoy each other’s company” get brought up in romance stories, where the two characters are, of course, in love. Please bring this up and then have them stay as friends! Give me good friends! Please!

Gakuen Basara
It’s just...so bad...I love it...They literally just took the warlord designs and stuck school uniforms on them. One of them’s a robot? Another travels around on a floating cushion?? There’s a plot about Tokugawa Ieyasu and Mitsunari fighting over the school council leadership and it’s just so random. I love it. At one point, Date Masamune, who is baseball captain, is playing kickball with three baseball bats in each hand. Also, Sarutobi Sasuke, who appears to be the nominal main character or at least narrator, flies around by holding onto crow legs. This entire show is ridiculous and it makes me want to watch Sengoku Basara, which I actually never bothered to see.

Beelzebub-jou no Okinimesu mama
If you ask me what specifically is wrong with it...I have no idea...even though I kind of like the main characters the situations they end up in are rather boring and the dialogue is stilted. You can super tell it was a 4-koma. I think it might’ve been better as a 3-minute anime? (please switch with Jingai-san no Yome) I do like Myurin and Beelzebub isn’t that annoying, but the anime doesn’t have anything going for it except the characters and they aren’t good enough to carry the whole show. I do like the art and coloring.

Jingai-san no Yome
If this were an actual anime I think it’d be real fun...but it's three minutes an episode and the entire first episode is pretty much only the theme song. I can’t remember the protag’s name (Hinowa?) but he seems very, ah, passive? He’s fun, and it’s probably a fun story, but the entire show is 50% just him saying the title over and over again...there’s nothing here...

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken
I love this so much. Yeah, the manga was great, but the adaptation’s amazing! The animation is so unique and innovative! I love it! Satoru, no, Rimuru, I wish you well on your adventures! I really liked the way they depicted visually non-visual input before Rimuru gets “eyes”. I just am so in love!

Double Decker: Doug & Kirill
Our protagonist Kirill is an absolute idiot and I love it. That said, his idiocy is the only thing carrying the show right now. The rest of the cast is rather flat and the “cops chasing down a dangerous slightly supernatural drug” is pretty overdone as far as plotlines go. The character designs don’t really fit the story either. Doug is supposed to be cool but the whole time I was just wondering how on earth he could put up with Kirill all the time. In summary, the plot, characters, and setting are all boring and Kirill is an idiot who deserves something better.

RErideD
This surprised me by not being your typical light novel OP protag with a harem. It’s a sci-fi drama running along typical lines, but there’s no fan service and I remained fully immersed in the somewhat average setting. I love how constantly confused and useless Derrida is. So far all the characters are interesting enough for me to like them and the plot seems to be meandering its way towards a mystery in which Mage is proven right. Go Mage! I’m rooting for you! Also, if Derrida gets together with Mage or Yuri I’ll be mad.
