this is a post i’ve been wanting to make for a little while now and i think it’s important for a lot of the self ship community to see.

there is nothing wrong or bad about having a large f/o list.

there’s nothing shameful about having a whole lot of romantic f/os.

there’s nothing wrong with having a ton of platonic f/os.

there’s nothing bad about having many familial f/os.

i have seen too many times that people hold themselves on a pedestal for having a short f/o list or look down on/make fun of those with long lists. it’s not often talked about but there is an unfair standard about having smaller lists and how it makes one “better” than someone else - or even that it means they love their f/os more because they are fewer in number.

this is complete and absolute childish nonsense.

self ship is an incredibly personal and self indulgent practice to each and every individual in this community. having one f/o is great, having a few is great, and having many is great too. it should be celebrated that someone has so much love in their heart and so many feelings to give. you may have a certain standard in numbers for yourself, but it’s unacceptable to put those standards onto others or say things that would make someone with more f/os feel bad or guilty.

big f/o lists are beautiful. even if you have one or few f/os you talk about much more than others, that’s lovely! if you switch out f/os often according to your feelings, that’s wonderful! if you drop f/os often, fluctuate attractions, or get a new f/o often, that is beautiful. it’s you, your heart, for you and nobody else’s judgment. and every single f/o knows your feelings and your love for them regardless of how often you post about them or what anybody else thinks.
