One thing that really hurts my soul is imagining how Armand gently cut Daniel‘s hair, shaved his face and trimmed his nails before turning him. Like he loved him so much and was saying goodbye in a way to Daniel’s mortal life. It was a way Armand showed his love. There is something painful and tender there and I need someone to write about it.

the thing about devil's minion is that 'armand was daniel's single oracle; his merciless and all-loving god'. daniel becomes cut off from his friends and family. he has nowhere else to go. he's never allowed to 'see or sense the presence of another supernatural being', and he wears the amulet with armand's blood and the single 'a' to show he's been claimed. armand tells daniel that he belongs to him, and he does. he is the devil's minion... and the devil grants his every wish. armand is literally always there to come pick up daniel when he asks and sometimes when he doesn't because he's too far gone. armand waits in night island to welcome daniel back, finding more riches and wonders to give him. he bathes him, dresses him, does everything so that daniel never has to want for anything. they spend over a decade going from city to city across the globe meeting interesting strangers but none of them stick and they don't stay because the only real thing that matters is the two of them. daniel is his guide and he will follow him anywhere, ask his opinion on anything. they're always in the middle of a psychic conversation that only exists for them. armand has daniel spend his last minutes in a world where it's literally just the two of them because that's what their relationship has been, the two of them utterly consumed, each one's life and world revolving around the other - each one thinking the other is incapable of matching their true feelings, that their love is stronger and purer. it's a dread devotion that rots you from within as you lose yourself to someone else and yet parts of you that were lost are reborn. it's a selfish desire to consume and a selfless desire to be consumed or maybe it's the other way around! it destroyed and preserved daniel's life, it shattered armand's centuries long vow to himself - the one moral code he believed it. obsession is not a strong enough word.

devils minion happening during a time louis and armand are separated in the 70s makes it absolutely delicious because i could see louis being so triggered by the events of the first interview he has to isolate himself, be on his own and armand doesn’t know how to deal with it, especially since he has been taking care of louis for decades after Claudia’s death. so what does armand do? stalk the last person louis seemed to be interested in (daniel) because he has no idea what to do really now he’s alone again and this whole thing he has with daniel is basically a ‘helluva’ bender where armand and daniel absolutely enable the worst in each other (sex, drugs, blood sharing), it’s the worst of rebound and I could see Armand losing control (why should he be in control now that louis is gone after all) and falling deep….. until louis comes back or daniel can’t handle this anymore.
seeing how careful and controlled armand appears in the present day if eternal sunshine devils minion happened of course he would consider what he had with daniel either a meaningless fling or a mistake he doesn’t want to think about now he’s back with louis again (while also being wary of louis and daniel’s bond). now what could be interesting is either the whole ‘affair’ was actually more than just a crazy rebound and neither daniel or armand want to admit or that when they get together in the present day it is a whole new thing. lots of possibility.

just remembered Lestat describing Armand looking at Daniel sleeping „reverently, as if a rare prize” like Lestat wanted us to know it’s so obvious how down bad that boy is for his own husband

@armandaniels
#i was thinking just yesterday after reading the devil's minion chapter in qotd about how#this weird power dynamic between the book armand and daniel where they're both dependant on each other#and kind of like each other's servants resembles the show armand and louis#i don't know what is underneath all the performative layers but it's batshit insane for sure
@likethemodel
#brilliant#i want to come back to this after i reread part 3#the character of the beautiful young devotee who offers up his neck with perfect mutual love must be a reference to armand's boy in paris#louis first experiences consensual feeding with him#the boy calls armand 'master' and armand refers to himself as the boy's slave#a mutual devotion#i guess that's the fantasy that louis is trying to replicate here?#but we learn later that armand killed the boy in preparation to leave paris with louis#so it's a fantasy of a fantasy#and louis knows it
these two responses together are soooooooo they're soooooo i'm so interested in this. i'd forgotten about the boy in paris whose name is dennis apparently and like. ok ok so
1)
The boy filled his glass and held it up now in a salute. 'My master,' he said, his eyes flashing on me as he smiled; but the toast was to Armand. 'Your slave,' Armand whispered with a deep intake of breath that was passionate.
performing it for louis! performing it for louis!
2) armand casually killing the boy shocks and disturbs louis, and in turn, the fact that louis gets emotional about it entrances armand.
3) daniel's relationship with armand echoes this relationship – i am the devil's minion and he grants my every whim – except for the obv crucial difference that armand doesn't kill daniel and is deeply and permanently attached to him.
and of course all of this is subject to change because they can do anything they want with the adaptation BUT with this as the information we have like. glass coffin vampire bed death psychological bdsm fascination (1979) fucking the poolboy eternal divorce indeed. let's recreate something you did that i think was deeply evil, but you play the victim and i'll be you. also daniel is there. they are sooooooo normal
