here is a snippet from my hockey au playoffs sequel i am trying sooo hard to finish it i promise!!

Buck looks over at Eddie, who is holding his own jacket up, BUCKLEY bold across the shoulders. “You got us WAG jackets?” Eddie says, but he’s smiling.  Maddie rolls her eyes. “They’re not WAG jackets, because you guys aren’t wives or girlfriends, now, are you?”  “You didn’t have to change the whole acronym for us,” Buck says. “We don’t – It hadn’t even occurred to me.” It really hadn’t – he doesn’t consider himself as one of the WAGs, because… he’s one of the players.  “It’s not really for you,” Maddie says, and Buck gives her a look. Of course it’s for them – how could it not be about them? “I’m serious, Evan. Look – you’re obviously not the only queer players in the league, and you won’t be the last on this team. It’s something easy that we can do now that will probably mean something to people in the future. Okay?”  “Well,” Buck says, glancing at Eddie. “If you put it like that…”

One of the main themes of this show is that no matter what you do — no matter how many people you hurt — you can still make amends and learn from it and do better.

You are not defined by your worst moment.

You are still worthy of being loved even if you make mistakes.

It feels like people are missing this with Eddie right now. Is he making a mistake? Absolutely. Is he hurting people in the process? Yes, he will be once they find out. Is he now irredeemable? No, absolutely not.

That goes against the central message of the entire show.

I could go through character by character and outline how this message applies to all of them but let’s focus on the big one:

Bobby not only hurt his family emotionally with his addiction but he also (accidentally) killed them and 145 others.

He’s terrified still that this makes him unworthy of happiness. But does it? The show tells us over and over again that no, it does not. He’s still trying to make amends, and maybe will have to all his life. But he’s trying. He’s doing that work, and the world of 9-1-1 is a better place because Bobby Nash exists within it.

What Bobby did was so, so much bigger than what Eddie is doing. The intent is different, sure, but both happened because the person was in pain. Pain makes people do terrible and selfish things.

Eddie has been Bobby’s parallel before and we’re seeing it again with the Amir storyline. Both of their pasts are coming back to haunt them right now. Both will have to reckon with the consequences of their actions. Both will have to make amends.

In the world of 9-1-1, any action can be forgivable if you are willing to make amends. Anyone and everyone is deserving of love.

So when I see people in the tags outlining why it’s so unforgivable that Eddie is cheating on Marisol and why this means he doesn’t deserve to be with Buck now, I have to wonder… are we watching the same show?

If you don’t understand that he’s cheating NOT because he ‘is a cheater’ but because he sees Kim as a chance to have Shannon back then you don’t understand how deeply and desperately Eddie has rewritten their marriage in his head to be flawless.

If you don’t understand how much pain Eddie has been in over Shannon’s death since 2019 then you don’t understand Eddie.

If you don’t understand how pain will warp your perception of reality and your scope of acceptable actions then you don’t understand pain.

And if you don’t understand how forgiveness and acceptance of a loved one’s flaws are the absolute heart of this show, then you don’t understand 9-1-1.

haven’t written much in a hot sec but this is from fwb fic that made me laugh because i wrote it before we got confirmation that buck is INDEED a lasagna connoisseur

But the weirdness in his gut sits heavy, and he can’t help but feel like this is not just a friendly hangout. A glance around the candlelit room only supports that—lots of hands held and heart eyes and under-the-table footsie occurring. And even without all that, there’s this: Buck’s stricken expression, like he’s been caught doing something and the consequences terrify him. His eyes are wide and his stammer is pronounced and Eddie’s face is not doing a very good job at pretending the scene before him is one of absolutely expected normalcy. He doesn’t miss the quick way Tommy glances at Buck’s floundering before smoothly saying, “Hey, Diaz. Evan over here mentioned being a connoisseur of lasagna, so I figured we’d grab a bite here after that guy at karaoke wouldn’t stop raving about it. Guess you had the same idea, huh? Hi, Marisol.” Eddie does not point out that neither of them have lasagna before them, shared pizza and pitcher of beer much too innocuous to have Eddie’s gut churning when he notes all of Buck’s olives are on Tommy’s plate. Because, Eddie supposes, Tommy also knows Buck hates olives now, and, much like when the Diazes order pizza, Buck is happy to just pick them off and hand them over.

think im gonna have it diverge from canon but im not sure WHEN. post-bucktommy first date? we’ll figure it out lads

Buddie roommates era... what if this summer we get Buck and Christopher roommates era?

What if Christopher is so angry at Eddie after he finds out that Eddie was so cruel to Marisol and Kim that he doesn't want to talk to him. Buck persuades Eddie to let Chris work through things in his own time rather than push him (he has experience dealing with a furious Diaz) and this is why Eddie ends up isolated even from Buck - because Eddie is giving Christopher the space he wants and Eddie feels that also means staying away from Buck.

It feels like a crazy theory, but it's less weird than the actual plot that's happening right now so why not?

Crack theory that I personally think would be incredibly funny:

The reason Marisol NoName’s been so bland and we haven’t learned so much as what she does for a living is because this is actually Vertigo. She’s intentionally infiltrated Eddie’s life for something nefarious, and after digging up photos of Shannon during their 48 hours of living together, she went and hired someone who looks like Shannon to mess with him for reasons.

Something absolutely ridiculous, like she's after that random fucking Chevelle. Eddie inherited it from Isabel when she moved to Texas, but it was actually used in some big unsolved historic bank robbery before his grandparents got it, or maybe his abuelo had a secret life. Marisol and her brother are the grandkids of Abuelo's old partner who got caught, and they've been searching for years and thought the key to the lost money would be inside the car.

But Marisol has been searching it while she babysits Chris and he's distracted playing video games. She can't find anything, so she'll have to talk to Isabel herself and see if she can get more information. But Eddie doesn't go out to Texas very often so she'll have to bring Isabel out to LA. How does she do that? Create an emergency so the whole family will have to come running to Eddie. An emergency like a total breakdown over Shannon's doppelganger, and then when they're all preoccupied with Eddie seemingly imploding his life, Marisol will make her move.

Supporting evidence:

How did Marisol NoName-NoJob buy a house by herself in LA? Why wouldn’t they at least tell us what she does or say her family has money? It would take one single line of dialogue.

She recognized and approached Eddie in the glue aisle

Who in their right mind would agree to move in with a guy they’ve only been dating a few months? She was snooping.

The nun thing was insane and why wouldn’t they at least give a reason for her quitting?

Eddie’s presumably been to her house multiple times, so wouldn’t he have noticed that she was super religious? She brought a damn Jesus bobblehead to move in and put it in a box of bedroom stuff, that doesn’t sound like the kind of person who would keep it all shoved in an armoire.

“You two aren’t going anywhere” sounded like a threat and jumping up to hug Eddie and Chris like that was an objectively weird thing to do in that moment.

“You okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” I know it’s a thing people say but I hate her.

Edy is such a mediocre actor that I can’t tell if Marisol’s smiles are supposed to be genuine or not.

Unless it was for another job, she posted a video whispering about a briefcase and being creepy on a set.

A nun kills the imposter in Vertigo and maybe Eddie finds closure by saving Kim this time.

okay so, idk if I'll ever finish it or post this fic. but! i had this idea of abuela suddenly coming out to eddie bc she found a gf that makes her so so so happy and eddie spending time with them and realizing he could have that too!! that second chances are possible!!! that it's okay!!!

anyway, i have a lot of thoughts and feelings and ideas so here's a lil snippet + a moodboard <33

“I wasn't expecting Abuela to introduce me to her girlfriend,” Eddie says, tilting his head and grinning softly. “But after seeing you two together? It makes sense. You make her happy.”

“She makes me happy, too.” Ruth giggles, like a schoolgirl talking about her crush. “And to be honest, Isabel was a surprise for me, too. I think that's just her effect.”

Ruth gets this look, talking about Abuela. A look that's so familiar to Eddie like the knowledge of breathing— the same look his Abuelo used to have when telling Eddie the story of how he met one Isabel Diaz, and how eventually he managed to marry her and form a beautiful family. The look that's on every inch of his parents’ faces on their wedding photos that are hung all around their home in Texas. The same look Bobby gets when Athena drops unannounced by the station. The look Chimney and Hen get when talking about Maddie and Karen.

The look Eddie knows as a fact it's on his face when someone mentions Buck or when the guy enters a room and Eddie can't help but to feel immediately drawn to him, like a magnetic force, like a moth to a flame.

Ruth shakes her head and turns around, gazing towards where Buck and Iaabel are dancing in the middle of the bar. Buck is laughing hard, with his head tilted back and his cheeks a rosy tint, Abuela chuckling as she tries to twirl the too tall man around.

“He’s special too, y'know. Your boy.” Ruth says so low that Eddie almost doesn't heat it over the music of the bar. “He reminds me of an old friend I had.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah,” Ruth smiles softly. “He was a good man. The kind of man that shines brighter than the sun, you know what I mean?” And then, Ruth turns to him, a knowing glint in her eyes. “The kind of man you'd be a fool to let get away.”
