Fix my hair or whiten it?
https://www.facebook.com/HeyItzTaya/videos/1048527215229916/ This link above tells the story of how most young black young women are told to "fix" their hair in order to not look "untamed" and "well mannered" in society (also known as white). The young lady who recited this poem Elizabeth Acevedo gives others a look inside the life of a black woman with naturally wild hair. She states "My mother tells me to fix my hair and by fix she means to whiten." Young black women are being told at young ages that their hair needs to be fixed and have all these different types of product in the hair to look more white or appeal to the white main stream society. Why should black woman have to change their natural beauty to make those who are not fortune enough to be blessed with our beauty feel better about themselves. This is just another example of how whiteness is trying yet again make a minority feel bad about their culture in order to capitalize off of it or demean it out of existence.

Visibility Policy
If we want to distribute power evenly, we must dismantle power structures that prohibit us to do so such as corporatization. We discussed in class how capitalism has no investments in dismantling systems of power and use retailers, social media, celebrities, etc. to condone that reality. Well we need to change narrow "reality" into a broader perspective so possibilities could come out as ideas that could be acted on. Major corporations could have workshops, guest speakers, showings of ted talks about dismantling gender norms in the workplace to start off and become educated before taking action.

This week we have discussed selfiecity and looking at Tifentale and Manovich. Each discuss different forms of the human physical facial features of different man and women. Selfiecity seems like even though they are randomizing the "random" selection room a large pool may not entirely be accurate in terms of my opinion. There was an overwhelming whiteness of images displayed all over the cite which causes me to question the true reason and goal was of selfiecity. I find it interesting how taking a picture of yourself or a "selfie" could tell so much about a person.

Faith Wilding once stated “ Why is it that so many younger women (and men) in the US (and Europe) know so little about even very recent histories of women, not to speak of past feminist movements and philosophies? It is tempting to point the finger at educational systems and institutions that still treat the histories of women, and of racial ethnic, and marginalized populations, as ancillary to "regular" history, relegating them to specialized courses or departments. But the problems lie deeper than this.”
After reading this quote I was quick to jump and point the finger at the educational systems and institutions feeling as if they are not educating us women enough. But they problems do lie deeper. Women, no matter the race, ethnicity, class, or any other social stigma should already be educated at home about the struggle women faced in the past and how we have overcome some of those obstacles today. By educating the young women at home rather than when and if they happen to get take a course on such issue could prove to be beneficial and reflective.

Gender “Rules” in the Kitchen
Tumblr media
After watching the video in class with Martha Rosler “Semiotics of the kitchen” (1975) I started to visually see how women only belonging in the kitchen is a waste of talent and usage and its a form that the patriarchy deemed a norm because of their inferiority complex. The graphic visual above states “Men that say that women belong in the kitchen obviously don’t know what to do with them in the bedroom” is a stronger and feisty text that tells the men to basically suck it. Thy guys who even have the audacity to even say women only belong in the kitchen are insulting  women by claiming they only have one set kill and duty they must perform. Women keep proving over again that gender does not defy what you can do. To tie things back to the video, when Martha Rosler handled and named (in alphabetical order) the pots, pans, utensils, and other household kitchen products in order with such unconcerned emotion and care I felt just depicted how much some women (not all )feel in the kitchen if they only learned the names of the instruments. If I never used a meet tenderizer before and was asked to I wouldn't know what to do, but men (specifically white cis-male) automatically assume this because as “women” its our duty to naturally know.

Fandom, technologies, and practice
One of the major issues of cyber feminism is that it reminds us that electronic space is infected by everything patriarchal. From our values, cultures, power systems and institutional orders everything is affected because they have already been established by the white cisgender that its already labeled in your minds as a norm and okay or why change it. When is really is not. This only solidifies the historic placement of women in the domestic sphere instead of embracing the feminist practice on the online cyber space. We are already using the tools of patriarchy to defy the rules and orders society has tried to place on the feminist community. Instead of trying to trap off access and allow only some to be included to only a certain extent is not only unfair but violates the Freedoms that were established.
