In lighter, Atelier-related ‘news’: I’ve played through Atelier Ryza a while back. It achieved a sad price as my least favourite Atelier game showing Lydie & Suelle from that spot. Really don’t feel like playing it again anytime soon though it did have some aspects I liked (such as more personal feeling side quests)

Also, played through vanilla Shallie (with Shalotte) and got the plat yesterday. Now please no more Brother Calls or Phoenix of the Sea...!

Happy New Year!!

We had quite the bit of Atelier games last year (I finished Ryza on New Year’s Eve^^) so let’s look forward to what 2020 will have to offer!

First up, the Dusk Trilogy Pack! I’m planning on getting it again; especially looking forward to playing Ayesha DX on PS4!

Koei Tecmo has announced a Digital Deluxe Edition for Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout in the west.

Available at a special pre-order price of $65.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition includes the following:

-Costume Sets – Adds 15 new clothing options from Lent’s Gothic Wolf look to Tao’s Island Explorer gear

“Another Fashion”

“Summer Style”

-Hideout Parts – Items used in remodeling secret hideouts. These items come with special effects like raising certain allies’ abilities during the rain.

Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust have announced the schedule of free updates for Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout in Japan.

Here are the details:

■ Update #1

Release Date: October 10

Content: Photo Mode, Lost Lamb No. 2, and Me and My Puni

Photo Mode

Freely set various filters and frames, change the time of day, depth of field settings, posing, presence or absence of character expression, placement, and more.

Lost Lamb No. 2

An ancient tool specialized in being attacked by Ryza and friends. The amount of damage dealt, number of chains, and the like against Lost Lamb No. 2 will be recorded and you can acquire gems based on your score. (This will become available a little while after the story has progressed after becoming friends with Empel Vollmer.)

Me and My Puni

Raise your own Puni. By feeding it, its stats and appearance will change, and it will bring back items when it goes out on a journey. Enjoy its various transformations while raising your Puni. (This will become available halfway into the story.)

■ Update #2

Release Date: October

Content: “Advanced Exploration Patch” (certain skills upgraded, level cap increased to 99, and weapon upgrades expanded) and “High Difficulty Patch” (adds the “Legend” difficulty mode)

■ Update #3

Release Date: November

Content: Gathering Synthesis level cap increased from 99 to 200.

Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust have release new information and screenshots introducing the “Secret Hideout” system in Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout.

Here are the details, via Koei Tecmo:

As Ryza, the budding alchemist, and her mischievous group of friends set out in search for adventure, they will be faced with a wealth of challenges to overcome. A series of circumstances leads the group into the depths of the mysterious Sunken Mine, a deep and dark dried-up environment that is home to something potentially evil—a gate leading to another world.

To prepare for their harrowing journey; to save their homeland from whatever is lurking in this far off land, the adventurers create a secret hideout as their new base of operations. As a budding young alchemist, Ryza will have to ensure she diligently practices synthesizing between her travels—the higher her alchemy level the more useful her items will be for future adventures. In addition, players will also able to use the exciting new Gathering Synthesis system from the hideout to create new lands to explore; they can use Forging to create new weaponry perfect for tougher foes; and Item Duplication, to easily craft a variety of consumable items for their journey.

Since Ryza’s Secret Hideout would not be complete without personalization, players will be able to customize their hideout to reflect their own personality through using various items found while exploring the multiple worlds. Ryza and her team will be able to increase their stats depending on how the base is remodeled, and the gathered items can be utilized strategically to grant useful stat boosts on the field during battle. These Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout features will unlock as players experience more of the game’s gripping narrative, quests, and magical lands.

Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust have released new information, video, and screenshots of Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout introducing battle strategies.

Get the details below.

■ Battle System

Action Points

Using a newly revamped Real-Time Tactical Battle system, battles will now progress even while character actions are being chosen. In Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, performing skills, critical attacks, or using abilities outside of the player’s turn through the Quick Actions technique will drain the player’s Action points. These points are shared between all party members, so it’s extremely important to use them strategically in battle to gain the upper hand.

—In battle, your party members will act in real time. Will they provide support, or will they attack? Analyze the situation to determine the best course of action.

—By spending Action Points, you can use skills and special moves. There are also convenient commands called “Quick Actions,” which allow you to use skills and items outside of the your turn.

Tactics Level

As the AP gauge is filled, players will also increase their in-battle level known as Tactics Level. The higher the Tactics Level a party gains, the more powerful attacks they can use, which also enables special combos to be performed.

Switch Between Characters at Any Time

You can switch between characters in battle at any time, so if there is a skill you want a party member to use, you can switch to that character. Also, special moves can only be used once per battle for each character, so use them when the time is right.

Since battles progress in real time, if you are not used to controlling multiple characters at once, you can just focus on a single character. If you find battles difficult, the game also offers difficulty settings ranging from easy to hard.

Action Orders

Throughout battle, party members will also be able to give Action Orders to other members of their party. These orders will ask the player to perform specific actions such as “perform a physical attack.” If the order is followed, the character which gave it will perform a follow-up attack with a powerful skill – and this ability doesn’t consume any AP; allowing players to use them at will to deliver strong blows to help defeat even the most ruthless of enemies.

■ Gathering Synthesis

Throughout their search for adventure, Ryza and her party will discover exotic new locations—including those they’ve made themselves. In Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout players can obtain special bottles, which can be combined with other items in the game’s synthesis system to create an abundance of new gathering locations overflowing with raw materials. Depending on which ingredients are used in the synthesis process, the environment can drastically change. For example: Plant Essence can create a fantastical forest area; while a Bomb can create a dangerous volcanic field overflowing with lava. Once the environment is created, a unique four-character password is attached to the area, which can then be shown off and shared with friends or across social media—enabling other gamers to explore the exact same area.
