Probably seems like a random question- but since you're the only person I know who was a Trek fan from back in the day, I thought I might ask anyway- when did it become widely known among Star Trek fans that DC Fontana was a woman?

As far as I know, it was always known. At least from the point in time where there first began to be Star Trek fans.

Dorothy took on the "D. C." pen name while working at NBC simply because there weren't a lot of other woman writers there at the time (meaning the very early 1960s). The move was just a way to keep upper-level studio management from prejudging her work.

But if you look at the staff notes to and from her in very early published works like Star Trek Lives! (which came out in the mid-70's) and The World of Star Trek, there was never any secret made of her gender while she was working at Trek. So any fan who'd read that book—or talked to anyone who had—would have known she was a woman. Then later on, Dorothy did the usual amount of attendance at Trek (and other media) conventions, once those became a thing; so people who'd thought "D. C." was a guy would have had no trouble at all in meeting her and finding out otherwise.

It's like the end of an era (Not really cause it will live forvere 💜) finally writting the ending to the story after all this time. So it must be kindda bitter sweet, isn't it?

Will it be hard to let go on working on GO? Or are you happy about it?

Really happy. I promised Terry I'd finish the story. It didn't really occur to me that it would take almost a decade (so far) at the time. I love carrying this beautiful thing, and I will be delighted when it is time to put it down.

How do you feel about the use of AI as a tool for writers? Not to make the writing for us, of course, but to ask for prompts or "chat" about plot points where you're stuck.

Friends are nice. If you can find some human ones. That's how Terry Pratchett and I became friends. He'd call me up when he wanted to chat about plot points when he got stuck.
