“No, actually. Are you proud?”
“Immensely. What’s to thank for this, the alcohol, or the various male distractions you seem to have acquired?”

“What, in this little thing? I just pulled it out of the back of my wardrobe. You know, as one does. Effortlessly fabulous.”
The subtle smile Valentina managed to tug from Adara was as effortless as it had been when they were children, before the years were fraught with tension and the toxicity of ideology eroded the bond that kept two girls as dissimilar as night and day connected, leaving behind a cavity Adara wasn’t sure could be filled again. But with the war ending had come healing, and with healing came a chance to at least try and mend what was broken. It was a chance Adara was glad she’d taken with her elder cousin.
“Effortlesly fabulous seems to work for you --or so the admiring clances you keep getting would suggest.”
