Propaganda of the USSR glorified the man of labor. Ukrainians, apart from the USSR, had and still have a cult of labor, even sometimes it takes very toxic forms. The Soviet school also had labor lessons by gender separetely: girls separately (sewing, cooking, the basics of office work), boys separately (carpentry, electricians, the basics of drawing). I studied at the most ordinary general education school in the 80s, which turned out to be more progressive, and girls and boys were periodically changed places in labor lessons: the boys were also taught to cook, and we were taught to repair the iron, sockets and understanding diagrams and drawings.

I loved labor lessons. But most of all I liked sewing and studying sewing materials.

Last month, Melissa @megillicutti brought up the important topic of storing Christmas decorations. This topic won't let me go. Soviet glass Christmas ornaments are very afraid of moisture and temperature changes. Maybe not only Soviet, but I prefer to write about things what I know. First of all, due to moisture, the paint layer peels off. Then the inner silver layer is darkens or washed out. I'm still a long way from perfect storage.☺️ I try to store my Christmas ornaments in cardboard boxes, and wrap each ornament in soft light paper for a long storage. Bubble wrap only as a lining for softness. A minimum of plastic and polyethylene is desirable because they tend to accumulate rather than absorb potential condensation. Instead of New Year's fireworks, we watched the work of our air defenses - also a bewitching show and very loud. Some people hid in the shelter, some did not. People after each blow scolded Putin and sang the anthem of Ukraine. At the moment we are alive and well - this is the main gift. Thank you for your prayers! 🙏💚 And my husband found Soviet New Year's flags from 1948 for "new" 1949 with a Kremlin in the colors of the Ukrainian flag and an inscription in Ukrainian "January 1". I want to see this as a nice symbol. And a new ornament settled on my Christmas tree - a golden cardboard wolf with a bouquet, approximately 50s.
