in all honesty, baz was expecting her to make him watch something similar to gladiator right when she arranged a movie night for them. this wasn’t a surprise, and it was almost funny for the male on how accurate his thoughts and preparations were. “i’ll agree to that… as long as i get to choose the next movie.” baz teased, his charming yet childish nature somehow radiating off of him now that he was wiggling his maintained brows suggestively. besides, maybe it’s time for him to actually let her see what he’s into through the films that he had in mind.
Tumblr media
“Yay!” she cheered, giggling as she sat back and got herself comfortable. Rolling her eyes playfully, she nodded. “Yes yes, of course. I’m up for that.” Grabbing her phone, she checked the time real quick. Abi smiled softly at the backscreen of it, showing off one of her favourite pictures of her girlfriend. Sure, it was only a few more hours but she missed the dancer more than anything. “I wished that Traci didn’t have to work tonight,” she admitted with a gentle sigh, setting her phone back on the coffee table and pressing play for the movie. Hers and Traci’s cat, Hatshepsut, jumped up on the couch to sleep at the girl’s feet. She gently scratched her head before smiling at Baz. “I would’ve loved for her to join our movie night.”

“Okay, I promise that I’m not going to force you to watch Gladiator again.” Sitting on the couch, she beamed up at her friend. She showed the movie she picked on the screen with a proud smile. “But that doesn’t mean that Agora is off the table. Pretty pretty please? I adore Hypatia so much!” Abigail batted her eyes up at him, hoping to hear him agree.

“Troy has perished, the great city. Only the red flame now lives there. The dust is rising, spreading out like a great wing of smoke and all is hidden. We now are gone, one here, one there. And Troy is gone forever.Farewell, dear city. Farewell, my country, where my children lived. There below, the Greek ships wait.” ―  Edith Hamilton, Mythology

22 YEARS AGO ON DECEMBER 18, 1998 - DREAMWORKS ANIMATION RELEASED “THE PRINCE OF EGYPT”
Because DreamWorks was concerned about theological accuracy, they decided to call in Biblical scholars, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim theologians, and Arab American leaders to help the film be more accurate and faithful to the original story. After previewing the developing film, all these leaders noted that the studio executives listened and responded to their ideas, and praised the studio for reaching out for comment from outside sources.
The animation team for The Prince of Egypt included 350 artists from 34 different nations. Careful consideration was given to depicting the ethnicities of the ancient Egyptians, Hebrews, and Nubians properly.
Both character design and art direction worked to set a definite distinction between the symmetrical, more angular look of the Egyptians versus the more organic, natural look of the Hebrews and their related environments. The backgrounds department, headed by supervisors Paul Lasaine and Ron Lukas, oversaw a team of artists who were responsible for painting the sets/backdrops from the layouts. Within the film, approximately 934 hand-painted backgrounds were created.

From this 2007 Nat Geo article
You can also read this Reuters article on it too.

Isn’t Hatshepsut
It’s actually her Wet Nurse (Getty Images links)
What’s happened is, is that Hatshepsut died of bone cancer (carcinogenic face cream kids!), and seems to have been buried in KV60. This tomb is actually the tomb of her Wet Nurse, whose body was identified immediately and then there was another ‘unidentified female’ in the tomb. In 2007 the other woman was identified because she was missing a molar, and everyone thought ‘hang on a hot second, don’t we have a tooth in a box that we definitely know is Hatshepsut’s?!’ So they tested the DB320 “canopic box” tooth and the teeth from this unidentified female, and it turns out they’re a DNA match! We found Hatshepsut!
When this was announced, the Cairo museum displayed both Hatshepsut (the first image) and her wet nurse (the image everyone thinks is Hatshepsut) together and the media got them mixed up when labelling photographs, which has led to years and years worth of confusion by the general public.
TL;DR: The media mixed up the labels on the mummies and the photo of the wet nurse has been mistakenly labelled as Hatshepsut every since!

maliacalloway:
When Malia lived in Philadelphia for a few years, she thought that was the apex of her traveling. It was a big city and much bigger than she had ever gone to! It was so entirely different from small and sleepy St. Marys. She had seen the ocean one time during a trip to Sea Isle City and that had been a life changing moment for her. Now, here she stood overlooking a great Ancient Greek temple. How wrong she had been when she thought she had reached the amazing peak of the big city and a fleeting glance at the ocean! “It is.” Malia agreed with such an awed sigh. She clutched the tourist guide in her hands and beamed at the passenger. “You’ve lived here? Wow! I can’t even imagine something so fantastic!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’ve lived everywhere,” she admitted with a shy giggled. The tiny brunette attempted to brush some hair out of her face. She nearly forgotten how windy it sometimes gotten being up on the acropolis and being near the coast. However, she loved it. “My father’s an archaeologist and my mother’s a marine biologist. I spent seventeen years with them traveling the world, living in different parts in many different countries due to their work. While living here, we were mainly located in Athens. But we did temporarily lived in other parts of the country and the isles, too! Wherever their work took them, we went. It’s one of the many things that made me love history and traveling so much.” Looking back, she realized something: she rambled. Again. Abigail blushed profusely and shook her head. “Sorry,” she laughed. “I... I-I tend to ramble sometimes. Um, I’m Abigail Bailey! It’s nice to meet you.”

Responses to “so what are you going to do after your degree in ancient civilisations?”
“the position of ‘ruler of Babylon’ has been vacant for a few years, hasn’t it?”
“well, someone has to translate those ancient curses in movies”
scream “ΒΡΕΚΕΚΕΚΕΞ ΚΟΑΞ ΚΟΑΞ” and run away
“destroy Carthage”
start reciting the Iliad and don’t stop until the person leaves
“I was thinking of killing a giant in Lebanon, losing my bro and going on a subsequent quest for immortality, what do you think?”
say nothing and keep building that sweet Hittite chariot you’re going to use to become a new superpower
“I’m going to construct a fort with all the Loeb books I own and never come out”
“bold of you to assume my studies will ever be over”
“et tu, Brute?”

In the mid-80s, HIV/Aids terrified the world because of a lack of understanding as well as misinformation. In April 1987, Princess Diana opened the UK’s first purpose built HIV/Aids unit that exclusively cared for patients infected with the virus, at London Middlesex Hospital. In front of the world’s media, Princess Diana shook the hand of a man suffering with the illness.
She did so without gloves, publicly challenging the notion that HIV/Aids was passed from person to person by touch. She showed in a single gesture that this was a condition needing compassion and understanding, not fear and ignorance.
