Indian businessman at the heart of serving people through his CSR initiatives in Congo
Mr Harish Jagtani is a businessman and a philanthropist of Indian origin and has been based in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for over 20 years now. He has been working tirelessly to serve the people of this country through his CSR initiatives and create a better life for them, especially for the underprivileged.
Concerned with the lack of medical facilities in the country, Mr. Harish Jagtani wanted to bring some positive changes in the healthcare sector of the country. Keeping this in mind, Mr. Jagtani started the HJ Foundations, a charitable, non-profit organization which is funded by all the HJ Group of Companies.
Free Healthcare Camps
Mr. Harish Jagtani has run uncountable free healthcare camps for the underprivileged people of the DRC—such as dialysis camps, malaria camps and camps for distributing prosthetic limbs, among others. At these camps, prosthetic limbs were distributed free of charge to persons who had lost their limbs—both war victims and the physically challenged. These people were also trained in using their new limbs so that they could go back to their normal lives. This camp brought about a life-changing experience for those who benefited through this initiative.
Additionally, keeping in mind the grim state of the underprivileged population, people who visited the camp were also provided meals and money for their commutes to and fro by the foundation. It is the hard work of the people of the foundation that has helped them transform so many lives and build hope for the people of the country.
In the past few years of its existence, the foundation has benefited more than 10,000 people with free malaria check-ups and medicines, extending aid to old-age homes, government schools and also orphanages.
Free Eye Surgery Camps
The HJ Foundation also holds free camps for eye check-ups, free glaucoma and cataract surgeries among many other campaigns each year. He has run a campaign called ‘Gift-A-Vision’ that plans to hold 100 free cataract and glaucoma surgeries for the underprivileged from across the country.
Mr. Jagtani and his foundation have run free MRIs for many children for hydrocephalus, free surgeries for the underprivileged, various health check-up and screening camps for malaria, chikungunya and also free vaccination camps. He has built community centre clinics and has helped with the renovations of several government clinics while providing medical equipment to build a 200-bed Covid care centre for the government.
Mr. Harish Jagtani and his HJ Foundation have been hosting these treatments absolutely free for the beneficiaries.
Initiatives During Covid
Mr. Harish Jagtani and his foundation have also run awareness drives during the Covid-19 pandemic and have hosted free food campaigns for the security personnel posted in Kinshasa during the lockdown period at that time. Mr. Jagtani made innumerable contributions during the pandemic and also drawn appreciation from across the globe for the noble work that he has been doing all through. Mr. Harish Jagtani wishes to do as much as he can for the people of the country where he has lived and made the most of his life. He plans to work tirelessly and with the greater zeal to make things easier for the people of Congo in whichever way he possibly can.
