I get so confused whenever I see an AI-generated sea slug of a species that doesn't even exist, like is the world not beautiful enough for you? Do you care not for Babakina anadoni...?
This is the devil’s hole pupfish! A tiny species that lives only in One water-filled limestone cavern in Nevada. It was one of the first animals on the endangered species list. At the last count in 2022 there were 263 pupfish observed - the most in 19 years! They’re tracked pretty carefully, as their 215 square foot habitat (the smallest of any know vertebrate) is fragile and has been disturbed in the past by groundwater extraction and other human interference.

yet another ant mimic jumping spider from Singapore: here’s Bocus angusticollis with its huge, flattened chelicerae (fangs) that resemble the broad head of an ant. not only does it look just like an ant, but it “antenna”-flicks and walks like one too! when it briefly glances at a passing oribatid mite or small beetle, however, it breaks the illusion; most ants don’t have binocular vision or at least don’t use their eyes like that.
this one is special to me since there’s only one other iNaturalist observation of it, from the exact location where I’d seen it a year before! wish I’d gotten a better photo of it too, but it leapt away from me before I could
With Chrysina limbata around, you won’t need a mirror! This species has an especially shiny exoskeleton, reflecting up to 97% of the light that hits it. In the wild, the mirror-like reflective surface may fool potential predators into thinking the beetle is just a drop of water- effectively serving as conspicuous camouflage.

The computer is a machine built for looking at pictures of fish you wouldn't otherwise see. Anything else you can do with a computer was an accident and unintended
I'm not sure if these are all different species, but they all have unique features. Wing stubs, half wings, full wings; white-tipped antennae, black-tipped antennae; chonky, longer; bright red, charred. All tiny, ♀️, ridiculous, and adorable. Enjoy. ❤️
Lumbricus castaneus may be one of my favorite local earthworm species for its small size, active nature, and strong iridescence, which varies in color from deep blue to yellowish green.
found on the surface under leaf litter or old wood, when you uncover one of these spirited little worms it’ll sprint off to safety, shining all the way.
love it when butterflies try to camouflage themselves but I can still see them like omgggg little do you know I can see many shades and colors and can tell many shapes apart very quickly…. could eat you right now if I wanted
