Tumblr media
I had the idea to try and restart this on tumblr later than is ideal, but apparently even the real march madness goes into April, so maybe it will work out.
This was one of my favorite things on Livejournal, way back in the day, so I have to try and bring it back.
How large the bracket is will depend on how many submissions I get. Any character that has been in something that aired or came out in the past year can be submitted. Submissions will close on March 28th and can be sent either via ask or this google form: https://forms.gle/FtTAnv4PKevHzCqh7. Please include both the character's name and what they're from.
Pit your favorite characters against each other!

Jumping on a losing train again and asking you all to vote Paul 👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paul McCartney (1942-) The Beatles - bass guitar and vocals; Wings - bass guitar and vocals; solo Songs: "Hey Jude," "Jet" Defeated Opponents: Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz, Dave Davies Propaganda: "Just look at Beatles era Paul and tell me you're not swooning. Actually swooning. I hope you have a fainting couch nearby." "He was referred to as the pretty beatle for a reason" "he's going to get obliterated immediately because Tumblr hates Beatles fans, and they're right to. with that said. *with that said.* Paul IS worth the hype, when you get past all the big loud treatises white men like to write about him. when you dig back to the actual music, the actual vids, the actual guy. he was beautiful, he was rare, but he was also real. watching him in get back just solidified him to me as the Most Normal Guy Ever. he loved being in a band and it shows for every second of the 60s."
Brian May (1947-) Queen - guitar Songs: "White Queen (As It Began,)" "The Prophet's Song" Defeated Opponents: Ronnie Lane, John Coltrane, Roger Hodgson Propaganda: "He's very tall, his hair is the stuff of legends, his brain is the size of planets, he has a doctorate in astronomy, he built the guitar he still plays to this day (like a god) as a teenager. His songwriting and musical abilities have made him a legend in his own right and he also plays with this little group called Queen. Everyone who's ever met him unanimously say that he's the nicest, most decent person there ever was. Also, he's ridiculously beautiful in every decade he's been on this earth. Need I say more?" "While Freddie is hot and Roger is pretty, Brian stands out as sort of ethereally beautiful. He floats across the stage in Zandra Rhodes while delivering heavy riffs, then switches to self-harmonizing in as light and fae a manner as you could wish." "An Angel singing with his beautiful voice and his very own special guitar. On the best Rock tracks ever! His face like a greek god surrounded by heavenly curls, prancing skillfully on the stage with his long legs in platform shoes."

New Tournament!
I created a new blog for it to make things clearer — it’s the new wave 80s-song-smackdown! Check it out, fellow 80s aficionados!

23. An animated movie you like
ummm…to be honest, I’m not big on animated movies, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be Fantastic Mr. Fox because I think it’s funny how they replace all the swear words with “cuss”.

4 and 21!
4. A movie you like but wouldn't reccoment
Top Gun -- It's such a guilty pleasure and I feel bad about it because it's blatant military propaganda.
21. A director you think is underrated
I'm going to be honest I know very little about film history so don't take me too seriously but I'm going to go with Mary Herron and Peter Weir.
I appreciate the asks! Keep sending them my way :)

2, 5, 6, 8, 25! :)
2. A movie you think is underrated
Not sure how underrated this movie is because I had no idea it existed when it came out, but Baby Driver. The timing of every sequence to music is so perfectly impeccable, and every detail is so on point. I love how so many of Baby's lines are repeated from things he heard somewhere else in the same way he samples dialogue to make his own music. Plus, the consistency is so on point -- everything is either a running gag, a Chekhov's gun, or both.
Already did 5, so:
6. A horror movie you like
You know, I haven't really watched a lot of horror movies, so -- does Hitchcock's Psycho count?
8. A fantasy movie you like
Labyrinth! Tbh anything with Bowie is a win
25. Your favorite movie
Well, I've already talked about a couple of them, but I have to say that right now they are Dead Poets Society, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and Grand Budapest Hotel.
Thanks for the ask!

5, 14, and 17 for the ask?
I already answered 5, so I'm going to skip ahead!
14. A movie made better by the ending
Dead Poets Society has such an iconic, bittersweet ending that I just have to go with it. The boys standing on desks lives rent-free in my head 24/7 and I couldn't imagine it ending any other way.
17. A movie you never get tired of talking about
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. It did really poorly when it came out because it lacks that sense of comfort that the series does, but as a prequel following the life of Laura before her death, I think it does exactly what it needs to do. It is dark and gripping and ugly and raw and honestly kind of painful to watch but it reminds the viewer that we had gotten to experience Twin Peaks through a kind of veil before, through the eyes of other characters, but never through those of Laura herself, the true heart of the story.
I'm also going to add on 12. A performance you think is underrated--
because that goes to Sheryl Lee (who plays Laura). I can't believe how underutilized she's been outside of Lynch films. She's got such a distinctive voice and her performance broke my heart.
Thanks!

5,11 & 15 for the movie asks
aHA! Another Duran Duran fan!
5. A musical movie you like
Not sure if this counts as a musical movie since it was originally a musical, but Tick Tick Boom! Andrew Garfield really surprised me in the best way possible.
11. A movie you wish you could un-watch
Maybe this is a cop-out, but Stand By Me? I liked the movie, but I think I just picked a bad time to watch it because I did not anticipate the amount the twelve year olds would be swearing and there were way too many people nearby and yeah it was pretty awkward
15. A movie ruined by the ending
Titanic -- I don't think the movie was ruined, but a) I personally was ruined and b) I'm not opposed to Jack dying at all, but, you know, they could have made the door a little smaller so it was a bit more convincing that it couldn't carry both of them.
Thanks for the ask!
