You’re not a deer though, are you? You are something soft and quiet and observed more than touched but you are not a deer. Imagine all the things you would miss in the woods. Maybe you would know peace but would you know intimacy? Would you have sweet dreams about summers past? It’s easy to wish things were simple and to try to run from the things that Make You Feel but I think they would still find you even deep in the trees. Imagine not knowing poetry or admiration for things smaller than you. I am grateful for the opportunity to cut my bangs too short, to say the wrong thing at the wrong time, to fall in love and not be loved back. It can’t all be love all the time. It’s not that way in the woods either. We are not swans and sometimes a rock is just a rock and I am just a human girl. I think that’s better than being a deer. I think I am lucky to know loss.
