Another thing while I’m on my soapbox. You don’t *have* to be an expert for your faith to be legitimate. I don’t know why, but for some reason pagan tumblr is notorious for people acting like the end goal of religion is to become a priest or clergyman. That’s simply not grounded in anything reflective of reality.
You’re allowed to have a surface-level understanding of your religion. You don’t need to be a theologian. It is better to acknowledge what you don’t know than to assume that what you *do* know makes you an authority. You know how annoying it is when a lay-Christian makes a claim with no theological or historical backing? Yeah it’s the same kind of annoying when pagans do it.
When I say “be respectful of others’ faith and culture” this includes learning from and deferring to those who have practiced and studied longer, those who have earned priesthoods, and those who have been raised in a faith. This goes double for minority faiths. Claiming to be a priestess of an African diaspora religion and undermining the authority of those others who have earned that position is appropriation and only reinforces oppressive ideals of supremacy. Don’t do this.

Bioregional Animism Questions
Years ago, came across a post on a website which had questions related to how knowledgeable one was to their local region. (The list was called “Bioregional Quiz: Re-Indigenize Yourself Project“ for anyone interested.) The website is long gone now, but I kept the questions to help remind me of things I wanted to learn more and more about over time.
Decided to share them as they might be of interest to or useful to some folks.
(Note: some questions I’ve added to the list over the years and the questions are not in the original order they were found in.)
What primary geological events and processes influenced the landforms of your bioregion?
What biotic and/or geological features define your bioregion?
Where does your drinking water come from?
What is the dimension of your watershed?
What creek or river defines your watershed?
What and where is the largest wilderness area(s) in your bioregion?
Have there been any successful land or water restoration projects where you live?
What are your soil conditions?
What kind of rocks and minerals are in the land below you?
What are the greatest threats to your bioregion’s ecosystem?
Where does your trash end up?
Where does your sewage end up?
What is the power source for your electricity?
What animal and/or plant species have become extinct in the area?
What animal and/or plant species have become endangered in the area?
Name a local environmentalist group.
Name some local invasive species (plant and/or animal . (Humans do not count!)
Name some plants and animals that live in and near your home? (Example: Insects, birds small mammals, etc.)
Name some local  plants and animals that live just outside urban centers?
Name five species of trees in your area that you can identify.
Name five migratory birds that pass your area and when they arrive and leave.
Name five local edible plants and when to forage them.
Is your area home to any native herbs?
Name of the first wildflowers that blooms in spring where you live.
How well can you predict the weather based on cloud formation and pressure?
What direction do storms generally come in?
At the peak of summer and height of winter, when and where does the sun set?
Can you roughly keep track of the Moon’s phase without having to look it up?
What places in your area are the best for stargazing?
Over time, what groups of people have lived the area?
What were/are the subsistence practices for the area’s indigenous persons?
In the past century, what was the primary land use in your bioregion?
When and where is your closest farmer’s market?
How many human people live next door to you?
What are their names?
What places are special personally to you in your area?

do you know any simple and discreet ways to protect a doorway from harmful things coming through it?
Threshold Warding Powder:
At twilight (ideally on a Saturday,) grind together Salt, Yarrow, Eggshells, Fennel, and Red Brick Dust within a Cast Iron vessel.
When the mixture has been satisfyingly pulverized, step outside and sprinkle the powder along the threshold of the doorway, from right to left. Having done this, walk backwards through the doorway, making sure not to touch your feet to the threshold. Once inside, close the door and turn the lock three times (i.e. lock it, unlock it, lock it again, unlock it again, lock it once more, and unlock it once more.) Thereafter, repeat the ritual as needed (when the powder is in need of replacing.)
There are innumerable ways to ward a threshold, from hanging certain talismans above the door, to sowing certain plants near the entryway, but this particular method is quite inconspicuous and fairly straightforward. I will also try and post a more in-depth warding rite soon, which calls on Janus to secure the threshold, should you, or anyone else, want a slightly more involved method with similar elements to this one.

How to do a witchcraft spell.
Examine the problem from as many angles as possible. Really put your finger on the root issue.
Figure out what to do, you may already know and see what you need at hand or you might need to do some of the following:
Wander around your area, maybe look through books, your papers and own grimoires, maybe the internet, your kitchen, your house, neighborhood, stores online and so on and gather up tools, supplies, location and timing that suits the goal and think through your knowledge about who and what to call on for help in this situation. Gather up all the things and narrow down what you actually will need. Does this spell need cleansing first y/n, shielding y/n, grounding y/n, divination y/n. Go on through your arsenal of pieces to include and figure out what you need. Do you need supplies y/n rare or common? Do you have them or need to draw them to you first or go hunting for them? If you can't get a supply is there another way you could approach this problem another spell you could do?
This planning process from start to finish can take minutes up to a year and a day or longer depending on what you are doing and its urgency.
Then when you know what needs to be done. Do it.

To Kill an Ill-Wisher
Tumblr media
“To kill someone who has ill-wished or overlooked your horse , cut out the beast's heart and stuff it with pins – the one who has overlooked it will die ( the horse that had been ‘ overlooked ' would of course already be dead ).
T.Q.Couch, writing in 1880, confirms that a similar spell was in use.
‘When an ox or other beast has died in consequence of the ill wish, it is usual to take out the heart, stick it over with pins and nails, and roast it before the fire until the pins and nails have one by one dropped out of it; during which process the witch is supposed to be suffering in mysterious sympathy with the wasting heart.’”

Letterheads and official stamps/seals are an underrated source of taglocks, imo.
Put them to good use. Bind them. Bind everything which takes a large chunk of your labour or your cash, which these things usually do. Bind your landlord to stop them from raising the rent. Bind unscrupulous employers.
Or, you may sweeten. Torn-off letterheads placed in a honey jar have gotten me exactly what I want from otherwise jobsworthy government officials.
Do this even when you think you have nothing to fear. Even when the laws and regulations are on your side. After all, those profiting from your labour and capitalist society will look for any excuse to get another cent out of you.

“Witches don’t usually do fortune-telling, because if they did they’d be too good at it. People don’t want to know what’s really going to happen, only that it’s going to be nice. But witches don’t add sugar.”
