Personal Project Brief - 'Texture'

This shows my texture project mood board followed by artist research and equipment list for the shoot.

For my project I had decided to work around the Japanese practice 'Shibari', this is a Japanese art form and is used within sexual acts, and a past torture method. This can influence the deception of my shoot, as some have described it as being both homoerotic and dark. I personally see the practice of Shibari aesthetically pleasing and can see how this is seen as art. My own thought process behind my work is being bound by mental thoughts, the despair that chemicals within the own brain. I see this project as a deception into my own mind by being self indulged by intrusive and dark thoughts, therefore I believe that is shown well through a possibly dangerous act such as Shibari.

Starting work on film photography:

This contains my artist research followed by my first contact sheets, first prints and experimental methods.

During this period I had learnt how to: develop film, use a medium format film camera, create contact sheets and learn how to print with film negatives using an enlarger.

Chemigram

My second set of photography work, chemigrams are made without using an enlarger and is done in normal light. Photography paper is exposed beforehand; it is generally more of an experimental method.

This is from my first photography piece of work, after learning how to use an enlarger I had created photograms by folding paper similar to the artists style.
