Donation Goal CRUSHED!!

As of today, April 3rd, the Legend of Link: Courage charity zine has raised $1,858 dollars for Doctors without Borders! Thank you to all our generous patrons, our amazing artists and our wonderful writers who helped us achieve this in a little more than one week. This effort would not have been possible without you!

Now that we have passed our $1,000 donation goal, there will be a slight change to how money from future orders will be processed. A total of 25% of revenue made past the $1,000 dollar mark will be given back to our zine organizers, who have paid for all production costs from their personal accounts. Further details can be found on the front page of our shopify. We are here to answer any questions!

Please note that the amount of money kept to cover production costs will not exceed their total. If we are able to cover production costs, all future proceeds will be donated. We will not make any profit from the magazine!

It's a very valid frustration to have! You're certainly not the only one who is in this situation, and we apologize. We wish there was something we could have done!

However, there is a digital version of the zine available for purchase. This is sent through email, so there is no shipping cost attached, should you have been interested in the zine itself!

And if you're truly interested in buying the zine, please DM us! We can try to help you organize a group buy with someone who is in your region. That means you all will make a joint purchase, split shipping costs, and whoever receives the package will then send it to you once it arrives. Paying 1/2 the price of shipping + a domestic fee will almost always be cheaper than having it sent right to your house from LA. If this is something that interests you, please DM us! Hi, I have a question about the donation breakdown regarding the charity. It currently says all proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders—which is different than profits. As I understand it; profits account for covering the overhead cost, and proceeds are the entire amount received. If all proceeds are going to the charity, does this mean that whatever is purchased is the same as a 1:1 donation? Like, if I buy a $5 sticker pack, does the entirety of those $5 go to Doctors Without Borders? It sounds great, but I’m not sure how that’s possible.

This is a wonderful question! Thank you for asking and giving us an opportunity to be transparent with where our money is going.

Profits and proceeds are indeed different, with profits defined as money made after production costs have been covered (as you said).

However, proceeds is a more vague term, and it doesn't have a singular definition. This is why you may see many non-profit organizations use the word "proceeds" rather than "profits" in legal material relating to their funds and donation processes. It often implies a more complex breakdown of charity funds than simply financial surplus.

Here is the answer to your core question: our goal is to raise $1,000 dollars for Doctors Without Borders. All money made up until the $1,000 mark will go directly to the charity, and not to us!

If we are blessed enough to hit our donation goal, a portion (no greater than 25%) of funds made past the $1,000 mark will go to help cover the cost of production.

If someone purchases a $75 bundle now, while we are still working towards the donation goal, all $75 dollars will go to Doctors Without Borders.

If someone purchases a $75 bundle past the $1,000 goal, and we are operating under the maximum 25% being invested back to production costs, $56.25 dollars will go to Doctors Without Borders, and $18.75 will be used to cover production costs. An announcement will be made on all social media platforms if we hit our donation goal, and it will include details on how the donations will see the above change.

Regarding how this is possible, I (Seeking7, the magazine organizer) have paid for all production costs from my personal bank account. I'm a uni student, but I've been working two jobs for the past year to help save, and while it would be nice to be partially compensated for production costs, it's not my priority at all.

I don't want to put all my eggs into one basket, but if we get past the 1k milestone, I will release a statement detailing the breakdown of all further funds. This will be displayed on the website so that interested patrons will be aware of where their money is going, and will be able to make an educated decision on whether they are interested in purchasing the zine.

Our website also includes a "Where Is My Money Going" tab that includes more details on where and how money will be handled!

In conclusion, we've used the word "proceeds" in the language of our donation because instead of using the money to cover production costs and then using profit to go to the charity, we're doing things in the opposite manner. Once we have hit our goal, then we will delegate a portion of further funds to helping alleviate the burden of production costs, but our highest priority is to raise money for a fantastic charity!

I have tried the link for the shop on both your tumblr and instagram and it says that the site has been blocked? I don’t know if this is an issue for anyone else? I live in Australia if that effects anything (I really don’t know much about websites lol)

We've had some kind patrons from Australia who have been able to access the site, so it's not likely to be a region issue.

However, our website has the word "shop" in the domain; this keyword is blocked on most work, school and university systems. If you're trying to access the site using a device or wifi that isn't personal, that might be the cause for your technical issues. Try accessing the site using a personal device on home wifi.

If that isn't the case, try waiting a little bit. There are some issues with shopify's support systems going down occasionally, but waiting and trying again on a new device seems to solve most issues.

I do have a question, is there any way to get a bundle w all the physical merch and a physical book? bc the build ur own is 163 all together which is a lot...i get its a lot of stuff but still just wondering if something like that would be possible? and if not why?

A "buy everything" bundle currently isn't being offered. However, others have expressed an interest, and it's something that we're considering!

If we do end up offering such a bundle, those who have already purchased everything in the physical catalogue will be refunded and offered the bundle, and an announcement will be made here!
