Reina had no issues in being seen as dangerous in fact when people commented about her threat level she felt relaxed figuring it might keep the person told away from her. In this situation, however, she felt as though she was dangerous for the worst reason. The consumption of meat always made her turn her nose up in disgust, but now it was all she could think about.Â
âI ate it and felt hungry again so I ate a fruit as I usually would and got sick, seems this body rejects normal food items.â Raw meat was the most appealing, well next to that of another creatures. Her eyes darted to Oriko for a moment as she sat in silence before curtly nodding. âYeah.â
đđ”đâȘ : So she canât eat any normal food, isnât it ? The candy surely had strange effects; she wasnât sure what it was. One was never too sure, now. How odd. The candies have something, whatever it must be, then.Â
She stared to Reina with a stern face, green eyes looking at the ghoul in front of her. Keep distance, just a little. âDid the candy alter your body ? I canât imagine what else it could be,â turning people into monsters -- monsters of the costumes they wore, perhaps ? âWhy, itâs a surprise you havenât gone mad with hunger yet, given how youâre acting right now.â

âIt was offered, something about saying my costume looked nice and to take a candy as a prize or something.â The person who gave it to her also had her say the trick-or-treat phrase which when she uttered it had been more of a question. Absentmindedly she scraped her claws across each other occasionally missing and hitting her palm.Â
Reina actively tried to not look at Oriko fearful that she might want to attack her and consume; hungry yeah she was hungry. âNot particularly at the time, I just wanted to know what the big deal was.â Her scent was appealing, and intoxicating her senses; she had to bite her own lip to keep herself under control. âIâm hungry now though, seems it hasnât stopped since I ate that thing.âÂ
đđ”đâȘ : Her smile is less wide; theyâre giving them candy, now. For what purpose, she couldnât tell. Oriko nodded, âI see.â Night was settling down, lights blossoming in the dark and laughter echoing not so far away from the pair. It might have been a productive night for them. The hunger in Reinaâs face didnât go amiss, neither the way she bit her lip, a fact that made the prophet wary.
âThe candy must be, then -- whatever it might have done to you. For whatever purpose theyâre handing them out.â she was most tempted to take one, of course, but had to hold herself back. âYouâre a ghoul, arenât you ?â

âI have had quite a few interesting customers, admittedlyâŠâ he would admit with a frown, letting a hand rest on his chin. Perhaps there were festivities happening deeper in the woodâŠ? Then again, it felt strange that there were so many random youkai visiting his shop lately. Not that they seemed to buy anything, most of the timeâŠÂ â⊠Actually, that explains a lot I think. And pound cake sounds like a good idea to make, actually⊠oh, and perhaps pumpkin mochi even. I wonder what that might taste likeâŠâ
â⊠Also, Mikuni-san, as âsmallâ as you might say this place is, I rarely have a need to leave. After all, thereâs just about nothing here I lack,â he exclaims in full confidence, grandly gesturing his arms wide to the entirety of his pumpkin and junk filled room.
âEr⊠anyhow, I havenât. Is the corpse bride some sort of urban legend?â
đđ”đâȘ : Rather literally, sheâd predicted the streets would be filled with various types of monsters, though never to this extent. â Pumpkin mochi, hmm...I canât say I ever had it. Still, it is worth a try if you want it. â Sheâs certainly one to talk; pound cakes, sure, sheâs done them. Mochi, not really, no. Thatâd be fairly more challenging than a mere cake.
And, well, the place was hardly a tidy one: not with all those pumpkins and halloween things, at least. It just made its small size all more evident, but it was funny and comforting both that he held such pride in his store. She could barely muster it up for her own home.
â As for the corpse-bride, it has its roots in Russia and related to Judaism, as I was told not too long ago. I am surprised you arenât familiar with the place, given Laikaâs namesake. âÂ

đđ”đâȘ : Corpse bride and golden dragon; an unlike pair, but what wasnât unusual in Spirale ? Who he is isnât a mystery to her; the attitude and the yellow haori are enough for Oriko to recognize him. âWe have met before,â sheâs quick to add, eyebrows knitted together. âAgatsuma Zenitsu, wasnât it ?â
âAfter what happened in the Isles, back then, Iâd hardly see you as the type for such festivities.â half-mocking and half-teasing, really, but itâs hard to forget his cowardice. âWell, Mr. Cowardice, seems youâve changed your opinion, right ? Youâre far more than meets at the eye.âÂ

âFestivitiesâŠ? Are they holding some events for the upcoming holiday?â Rinnosuke asked, with a blink of surprise. Wasnât the holiday enough? Then again, those summer festivities lasted quite a while⊠still, at the mention of business, heâd rub the back of his neck while sheepishly admitting, âI wish I could say that were the case. Really, I just bought more than I expected would sell⊠but, with the surplus of pumpkins in store, I have been able to try out some pumpkin recipes Iâve been itching to cook.â
â⊠I was wondering why you were dressed like that, Mikuni-san. Well, this is my first Halloween too.â Adjusting his glasses, heâd smile somewhat. âI donât plan on going out or dressing up myself, but itâs nice to see youâre enjoying it as much as you can. Though⊠why exactly are you dressed like a zombie of all things?â
đđ”đâȘ : âHave you been confined to this small place lately ? Thereâs quite a lot of festivities around !â it was amusing, the way he seemed utterly oblivious to everything outside; with such a large quantity of vampires, ghouls, and other kind of monsters around, sheâd have assumed that one wouldnât have missed everything going around. âI suppose you can make a nice pumpkin pound cake, with everything youâve got.â she should give it a try, that makes her think. Itâs been a while since she last made cake.
âTruthfully, Halloween existed back where I lived, but, as you might have realized, I never had much time to partake in the celeberations.â there was so much important stuff going on, anyhow. âAh, I donât think youâve ever heard of the corpse bride, have you ?â

aid-lombardâ:
It seemed like people were enjoying themselves during this event; some even seemed to imply that it was a yearly occurrence, and to Saint-Germain, that felt strange. Would she ever get to the point where the happenings of this city just seemed ânatural?â If she did manage to find these gods toying with her life among others, what would happen to her, considering how she was dead?
With the knowledge that she was no longer alone, though, she found herself not slipping into endless despair-filled trains of thought as often. Instead, she wondered how exciting an event like this could be to some; while she had no desire to transmogrify herself, it could be an exciting experience, especially to one who lived in a world without any sort of magic, or to any child. (She also knew it was very likely Cagliostro would force her into some sort of ridiculous costume; she wanted to preserve her normal time as long as she could.)
As she wandered on the streets, glancing at the various creatures that made up the populace, a certain one caught her eyeâa gaunt girl, dressed in pure white, pale beyond what one could achieve while being alive. Saint-Germain realized she hadnât seen Oriko since their encounter on Haugst. A deceased bride was a bit of a morbid choice for a costume, butâOriko came across as rather morbid in general, so she felt as if she shouldnâtâve expected anything less.
âThe corpse bride finds its origins in Jewish-Russian folklore, as your fun fact of the day. âŠI hope that Judaism and Russia both exist in the world you are from.â She realized it was very likely that Oriko came from a world where neither of these things were true, or that she had no idea of the origins of the costume (nor the popular stop-motion movie), just thinking it looked neat. âHave you decided to indulge in candy, or is your makeup simply well-done?â
đđ”đâȘ : âOf course they do !â Oriko was a little more knowledgeable about the country itself, given its proximity to Japan. The religion, merely a passing name in her ears. â Fyodor Dostoyevsky was born in tsarist Russia, after all. Well, I didnât expect you to recognize a corpse bride.â She almost felt offended at the implication that she didnât know what Russia was. Saint-Germainâs world must be similar to her own, given the mention of the nation.
âMerely makeup,â she nodded. âIâm hardly a professional, anyways. I do not trust the candies theyâre giving around here, but to be frank...this is my first Halloween.â her voice was almost sheepish; unusual from the stoic, level-headed girl she often presented herself as, perhaps due to the fact that it made it clear that Oriko hadnât grown up the ânormalâ way, compared to her peers. âThough you hardly seem like the type to celebrate such thing.â
It was...odd, when Oriko thought about it, in how she became so used to this place that, without thinking much, she went along with all of this - minus the candies, of course, hard to trust those. Had she been here for too long ? Regardless, there was a freedom in it; the act of putting on her makeup, the trick-or-treating that happened across the town. But a part of her wanted to have this, just this once.

đđ”đâȘ : Pumpkin and spice; black licorice and strawberry candies, these delicacies that people tasted with great familiarity, children eyeing them with curiosity. and though she had seen it in television, in the internet - there was a feeling of displacement, one of those moments that made it clear just how far from a normal teenager Oriko was.
âYou took a candy, didnât you ?â The sight of sharp fangs and claws does not go amiss to her; her stoicness wouldâve been creepy to someone outside her scope, but much can be expected from miss âsipped tea while her friend killed a witchâ. You just kind of learned not to fear monsters any longer, and these were normal compared to the damned witches. Still, sheâs cautious. âWere you hungry ?â

đđ”đâȘ : âYouâre busy as always, even during festivities ?â The presence of various pumpkins around Rinnosukeâs store didnât go amiss; all of it still felt utterly alien to her. Halloween, in general, was a foreign idea for Oriko, who had been robbed too young the chance of being merely a kid. Sometimes, she regretted it, but kept her head on.
âThey do sell well around these days. This is my first time in Halloween, if Iâm honest,â The youth crossed her arms over her chest. âIâve never bothered to put a costume on before. Not until now.â There was a relief in her, a feeling of excitement as she had gone out trick-or-treating earlier; it was a welcome feeling.

@aid-lombardâ â„âd for a starter
đđ”đâȘ : Halloween felt foreigner to the puella magi; she might have seen her classmate talking about it during recess, hearing their excitement at the variety of costumes available to them. To some extent, perhaps, Oriko envied them - her life was different from the carefree days other girls lived, Orikoâs days instead swamped in political posters and speaking to others as if she were an adult.
However.
She was still a young one, albeit more twisted and jaded than her fellow teenagers, so itâd be only natural that curiosity settled as Oriko witnessed the candies and the costumes and the strange creatures around here. Hopefully nothing like the horror that was Kriemhild Gretchen. She also would be lying if she said that costumes werenât interesting - they were, certainly so, and while puella magis often had frilly costumes, their everyday lives were far from being flippery and satin. So she wore the dress, put on her makeup - casually done, making her look akin to a corpse. She looked at herself in the mirror, green eyes scanning her reflection, and she left her place.
( A corpse. She should be a corpse, by now, albeit brought back to life by strange methods. But what are puella magis if not empty, walking corpses, only kept alive by their soul gem ? )
This should be the moment in which she finds someone, shouldnât it ?

Halloween is right on the corner ! Oriko might be a bit unsure what to do here - sheâs not someone that indulged in such festivities, likely, and thus her choice of costumes might be a little clichĂ©. Corpse bride, perhaps ?Â

RELATIONSHIP AD CALL !!
youâve heard of white magicians girls before, now hereâs another proposal: ivory-clad magical girl who looks into the future and has ruthless traits ! hey, isnât that cool ?
once again i thank you for my stay in isola and how iâve gotten a chance to write with various different characters and whatnot. it was about time i did this with oriko anyhow, but this is a relationship ad post, so please check out whether anything below here interests you !
by giving this post a â„ i take it that youâre interested in any of the following - please feel free to specify within replies or through IM.
FRIENDSHIPS;Â this one is...tricky, in a way. oriko has difficulties opening herself to other, due to various painful experiences in her past - whether among her relatives or her peers - with one person to truly call her friend. but perhaps, perhaps it could help her soften up...or, maybe, she could be a toxic influence ? who knows.
ENEMIES & RIVALS;Â do not understimate her looks, sheâs not someone youâd like as your enemy. poke around the corner, tests her limits, and see just how far can you push her.
ALLIES; honestly, the 2nd most likely thing i can see. oriko doesnât trust the headmasters of spirale in the slightest, thinking of the islandâs seemingly utopic appearance and the forceful kidnappings of its inhabitants being extremely fishy for her. she wonât quietly accept this - sheâs no normal teenager girl, and you must be willing to do some less than savory things, no ?
FOUND FAMILY;Â not only itâd be a good way to humanize oriko more, but i also feel like her family life has been terrible enough that she deserves to experience that, no matter how small. father figures might be trickier though, given her fatherâs suicide.

⥠Right. What a way to leave an impression here.
Gramps would be ashamed. My friends, too.
I really have to do something here. She is really hungry, too.
Zenitsu sighs deeply. He put his sword into his room with the intention to keep it there. With all the festivities that happened before, it seemed odd to walk around with a sword. Now, he has to resort using the broken pipe from a busted wash basin instead. He doesnât really see any better alternatives around here.Â
âActually, I can fight. Itâs just like⊠I really really hate to do it, you know? Where I come from, Iâve spent⊠a lot of time fighting people that turned into demons. I was actually hoping that I wouldnât have to fight anymore now after all that. Iâm sorry Iâve given you the wrong impression. Getting back into old habits was the more comfortable solution for me.â
I was trying to skirt my responsibilities.
Heâs picks up the pipe with a deep frown. Swinging it back and fort and⊠it will do. But it is definitely a poor substitute for his Nichirin Blade. Besides, this will get definitely messy. Heâs absolutely not looking forward to any of that.
Most of all, he is scared. Heâs down-right terrified by the thought of what heâs going to do. But surprisingly to himself, heâs keeping himself together rather well now at this point. It is the prospect that he got someone to protect. And that he doesnât want to disappoint Gramps.
Another deep sigh. It is a little shaky, giving away that he is still frightened inside, despite his outer change of demeanor.
âI apologize to you for causing you so much trouble earlier. I donât hear any of them coming here, so I suppose youâre safe here for the time being. Iâll go and get us something to eat.â
â â đâ ;Â Â Â âI see...â Oriko nods at the boy. No longer he was the coward that sheâd seen him as for the little time theyâd spent together, running through the laboratory; here he was mustering up the courage to even talk about it openly. Honestly, she isnât sure what to think. Cowardice wasnât something she felt she was allowed to feel, yet a part of her sympathizes with the boyâs plight. (Â his shaky sigh doesnât go amiss to her. )
The silence grows thicker with each second. She promptly breaks it, when she sees him picking up the broken pipe. âAnything is better than nothing, for sure. Backing down wonât do us any good, though you canât never be too ready.â Thatâll have to do it, surely; sheâs hardly suited for combat, always having a sharper mind than fighting prowess. But staying behind would surely be a terrible, terrible idea.
Low grunts came from behind the metal door, accompained by the ocassional soft scratch on it. She hadnât taken a good look at them - hard to do so when itâs pitch black. Oriko steels herself. Sheâs dealt with the surreal horrors that were Witches, anyways.
âWait.â she stands up from the ground, touching his shoulder slightly.
âIâll come with you.â

â â đâ ;Â Â Â It had to be said: Oriko was getting tired of the headmasters and their little games. She was hardly a fighter, anyhow, but even a grain of fighting prowess was better than being deprived of it all. Her magic could be still a tiny bit of help, but for how long? How long could she keep avoiding those monsters?
It is, until she doesnât, barely. A rundown that couldâve been fatal, were it not for the fact that only a cracked Soul Gem could make her die. Wouldâve been an even worse turn of events had she not foreseen a quick escape route, no matter how little it was. ( But the slightly burning pain of the gash in her left upper arm still was there, still stung on her flesh, still was such a bother.  )
Itâs such a pity, really. Even thinking about it too deeply makes her want to laugh or cry, or maybe both; relaxing times? That was just the most stupid joke she might have heard in a while. Frustrations bubbles over as she leans against the wall, eyes squeezed shut, as the white puella magi thinks about the last months sheâs spent in Spirale over and over again. But it was far from over, she knew, and the moment she felt something approaching, she braced herself.
No monster came. It was a familiar voice and face, instead.
âOriko.â
Her green eyes widen at the mention of her name, the owner of such words not missing to her eyes.
âSaint-Germain?â Seeing a person in here, after god knows how many hours, felt so strange.
@0racleray liked.
It didnât take being a well-educated person whoâd lived for 2,000 years for Saint-Germain to realize that Haugst Isle was bad news. For the most part, sheâs not equipped in any way to deal with the abominations that lurk there, and the abandoned building is simply creepy to her. Were she not such a goody two-shoes, she wouldâve left the instant sheâd assessed what kind of place the island was. Butâ
âbut.
While she doesnât currently have the ability to fight, that doesnât mean that sheâs not equipped to help people. And as many strange people with powers exist in Spirale, she also knows thereâs plenty of normal people whoâre just trying to live their everyday lives. She doesnât want to play the big hero, but if she can save someone from the pain of getting killed? That would be nice, she thinks.
The best way to not make noise as one walks is to not walk at all, but unfortunately for her, sheâs exhausted her flying capabilities for the day (which also means that even if she wants to go to another island, she canât). So she creeps about, hoping that she wonât cause any sort of commotion herself. As she turns down a hallway, she instantly recognizes that sheâs not alone, and preparing to have to fight in some way, she braces herself.
But no monster lays beyond the wall. Instead, Oriko is there, leaning against a wall with her eyes closed. Saint-Germain canât tell if sheâs just resting, or perhaps recovering from somethingâbut two heads are better than one. She walks slowly, but decides to take heavy enough steps for someone that close to hear.
âOriko.â Thatâs all she saysâher voice a harsh whisper as she looks around. Theyâre in the clearâŠfor now.
