1. What font do you write in? Do you care or is that just the default setting?

I usually write in cambria size 11, although the size is more of an "idc" thing. I just like it :)

3. What is your favorite writing ritual and why is it cursed?

My favorite writing ritual is the Sprint Gang in a discord server that I'm in. I'm about one of three people left that's still dedicated to the sprint bot, but I will do 15 sprints in a row if that is what it takes. I should also explain that a writing sprint is timed chunks (I do 20 minute ones) where you write as much as possible.

19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?

I started writing when I was in elementary school, just some fantasy stuff that was very anticlimactic because I rushed to the good part and it ended up being too short. I've always been an avid reader, and fantasy is my lover, so it's not that difficult to make up your own universe in your head. It's not really about a "why" I started, more about an inevitable when *would* I start.

I still write small original works, but I also write a decent about of fanfic. I had a really popular MCU fic that I wrote when I was 14 and it was 3 am, and then I moved to crossovers like KNY X BNHA, and then onto minecraft my beloved. I wouldn't really call my older works bumps so much as learning experiences. For example, I've learned that it's better to take my time on writing something than to force myself into a panic about having something out every week. I've learned I should have an idea of a goal for my writing. I've learned to not make meme references because memes from 2015 are not as funny anymore!

Right now I'm working on Allerseelen, my hermitcraft fic for tango's big moon escapades, as well as outlining my original book. Allerseelen is great you should totally read it haha jk unless???

22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The cloud?

I write down ideas as they pop into my head in my notes app, as well as in little journals and things. When I outline a fic I usually write a small blurb for each chapter to remind myself of what it needs to accomplish in the narrative. A lot of writing is problem solving for me. "Why can't Tango have HSMB yet to make other people realize he has moon trauma?" "Because HSMB is stuck in Tommy's inventory and we have to dive into his code to get them out." Problem solving can be used for organization. What problem does this chapter solve in the narrative? Why did you write this in this order? These are all things I ask myself when I do something.

If I split each chapter into sections, I can also focus on other characters and establish a place in the story for them. Each split of a chapter can be used to make a timeline of events.

Also, for organization I have 3 docs for Allerseelen. One is for the whole thing (oh god), one is for the current chapter (so I can get the word count properly), and one is for when I write something that doesn't quite fit and I use it later (the snippets doc). I used to use the whole doc for sprints, but it's starting to get slow and I usually also use it for the outlining blurbs and it's not accurate wordcount-wise. The snippets doc is really useful because I can write short scenes and copy paste them in when the time comes!

question: is there anything in TRSNS that you wish you could’ve added or elaborated on but had to cut out? it probably goes without saying, but if this is the case i’d kind of love to hear about it

Hoo boy, okay, here we go. Short answer, yes. Long answer…ahem. Below the cut. I apologize in advance.

So, as you all know, I had not seen the original redstoner series when I began this fic. Pablo Punchwood was a later addition, as was the phenomenon scene, the mirror scene, and the nightmares. I wrote the whole thing in chunks, like it is now, but there was a lot of rearranging that happened. I started by writing Grian going through the portal to find Mumbo. There was a time when Pablo happened when Mumbo blacked out after helping Grian. But that’s besides the point.

The healing process is different for everyone, and I think the overall arc I created is fully fleshed out and developed. HOWEVER. There are certainly a lot of little things that I’ve considered adding, including some things from some of the asks on this blog(blue shirt anon, the death message thing). Also, I had only ever seen Mumbo’s, Grian’s and a few of Iskall’s episodes when I wrote this and that is why the proverbial camera sticks so closely to those three. I have since then tried to write in more hermits but I can’t do it smoothly enough. I also wanted to write a version where Mumbo kills almost all the hermits and almost all of them come back maimed. It started out well enough, but I still just didn’t know enough to pull it all together.

I also think it could be beneficial to explore Mumbo’s suicidal ideations and self hatred more and expand on his inner dialogue. I think that as it is currently it works as a full component of the fic but it would have been interesting to see more of that. I also think Iskall and Grian could do with a little more metaphorical screen time.

It’s hard to write Minecraft fanfic because there’s so many game dynamics that you can adopt or change or explain or leave out all together. This fic is fairly low on Minecraft game dynamics, but it would be interesting to do more with that, either through the death notifications like the one ask said or by just adding more Minecraft-y things in general. However, I do have a version that I’m working on that will be completely separate from Minecraft and Hermitcraft because I want something I can send to people who don’t know what the hell I’m talking about. It stands alone as a short story because it’s about healing and character development that can be wholly separated from Minecraft.

This fic would have been so much different had I actually known what redstoner really was. It probably would have been simultaneously darker and more humorous and also probably a lot shorter. I honestly don’t think I would have enjoyed writing it as much, and I don’t think it would have gotten so much feedback if I had. Still, there are some things in house_owner’s series that I would have liked to explore. The actual effect of the red sun, the fact that he made the red sun, command blocks, etc. etc.

On the Discord server, I’ve written so many AU versions of TRSNS. I think the current count is somewhere near 8, all different lengths and all different focuses. The original will always, always be my favorite, but it’s been fun to explore what else could have been. Some of these are just changes in secondary themes such as the incredibly gorey Tear Me Apart, or are set in other Hermitcraft AUs like the overexposed AU.

Something else I might want to actually write later(still deciding whether I’d actually add it) would be something my literal, actual father asked me about. So, he’s religious, and basically what he said is that there’s three steps to forgiveness. Apologizing(making up with yourself), forgiveness(from the other person), and atonement(making up with God/the world). The way he described it in this context would be as soon as Mumbo is sufficiently unboxed, he’d offer himself as Grian’s wings/arms and Iskall’s voice. That way he’s putting in the energy to make up for what he did by taking it away, even though it wasn’t necessarily his fault. I sort of wrote it in a crossover fic I did(long story) but it’d be an interesting conclusion to the whole mess.

Speaking of that particular crossover, it’s very Pablo-centric. And that’s another thing I’d like to clear up or even just conclude. I can’t remember if I wrote the final letter in to the Ao3 version of TRSNS, but basically I have a couple paragraphs where Pablo makes it home and leaves a letter to Mumbo under a rock. I didn’t really expect everyone to love Pablo as much as they do(a lot of people have adopted him as a dad, similar to Joe), and some even asked me if Pablo came back. That’s just me pandering to the masses, though, even though I think that ending with that letter is a good choice.

ALSO, if y’all haven’t guessed/read, this is a huge projection fic. It’s a lot of my own healing experiences and personal relationships. It isn’t based on anything specific(well, the red sun is), but it’s an extremely personal and emotional fic. That’s why it’s so good and why it’s gotten this sort of reaction is because I’m writing about what I know and I’m writing with confidence. If it was just a Mumbo killing people fic, it wouldn’t be a quarter as interesting or good as it is now. But that’s besides the point. I think if I had to rewrite the whole thing over again, besides adding in the other hermits, I’d add more about Mumbo and the red sun. How they talk to each other. How Mumbo feels pulled back but revolted at the fact that he feels it. Sort of an emotionally manipulative red sun(totally not a projection :) ). Someone in the server brought up a similar idea and I had to yeet myself out of the chat because it was hitting way too close to home, but I think that exploring that sort of thing in this space where I’m comfortable and confident could be beneficial to me.

ANYWAY, oversharing time’s over. Rereading the actual original ask this stemmed from, I didn’t actually cut out that much from the original fic, and the length shows it. It was more changing and rearranging things. I don’t think there’s any scenes or anything that were in the original that I had to cut out entirely. There was some things that I wrote after finishing it and just never added, but I don’t think that counts.

I’m going to be posting a ‘How TRSNS Came to Be’ post eventually because I wanted to write out a brief synopsis of my rise to STARDOM(lol) and this is my blog where I can put random stuff like that.
