Welcome one and all to the second day of whatever this is!
I’m losing my shit over the recap idk why it’s just so funny
THAT POOR GUY WAS JUST TRYING TO TAKE A PISS THATS GOTTA BE ONE OF THE WORST WAYS TO DIE
K so I know she’s dead and all and that really is sad and tragic but her headstone is really nice actually? Did you know the price for a pillow headstone like that would start at 1,500$(CAD) which is insane. Anyway you’re welcome for that fun fact 👍
Oh shit that scared me just as much as it scared Sam
Dean is such an asshole actually. <- that’s not even specifically about anything either, just a general statement
I’m begging this show to treat women like actual real life human people, like I know they don’t the entire show run but holy fuck
Actually almost as soon as this episode started things started looking familiar and I looked it up and while yes, the pilot was filmed in LA, almost the entirety of the rest of the show was filmed in Vancouver. That’s actually code for ‘we really filmed all over the lower mainland but we don’t want to get too broad or too specific’ watch me start and point things out that I recognize from here on out. (Season 1-5 of the x-files were filmed in Vancouver and I straight up seen science world in the background)
OBSESSED WITH THE DRAMATIC ZOOM INS ON THE RIPPED UP TET
ROY YOU DUMBASS
Love when shows in the 2000’s just casually call indigenous people Indians. Tbh I feel like it bothers me less than it does some people because even now it’s so used in even a professional setting because it’s still the ‘correct’ term. Like real life if you were to search up ‘what is a rez’ the first definition would be ‘a North American Indian reservation or reserve’ not important to spn or anything just interesting
YESS MOLOTOV COCKTAIL THAT BITCH
OOOOH NOOOOOO
shoot it WITH FIRE
They are aware that... women aren’t like that... right? Like maybe she might act like that but... they’re not gonna do this to the rest of them... RIGHT?
also sam you've brought this upon yourself be prepared for like 1 pf these a day
WIN
yeah silly show silly recaps <3 <3
RIGHT WLKJRKFE ITS SO FUNNY
FOR REAL?? THAT IS INSANE YEAH . thank you for the fun fact belle
YEAH right!!! I just watched the first 2 and a half episodes yesterday so it's fresh in my mind
NO LIKE FOR REAL. HES SO. UGH.
literally oh my god. baby seasons change but 15 years of spn bigotry dont
NO FOR REAL!! ALSO OOOH i did not know that!!! that's so interesting
IT'S SO FUNNY
LITERALLY ROY YOU DUMBASS.
OOOH huh for real?? About the part where you look that up and it still says that. yeah , yeah i hear you
LITERALLY <3
when in doubt, use a special gun in the white american gun show!!!
im not sure they are. also yeah brace yourself it's just like this forever... does it get better? yes. but marginally and like it gets worse in some other aspects of misogyny SO
i'm literally so excited belle you dont understand... also this is nothing sometimes i woke up to 100+ dm notifs from Noah drop-of-infinity reacting to spn episodes <3

AUTISM ACTIVATED. ok fuck this is gonna be long. under the cut it goes
📃 what is the plot of your hyperfixation? and is it a movie, game, show, etc?
😔 i am an anime enjoyer sadly enough. theres also the manga but i havent read that SO im just gonna be focusing on the anime for this one. uhhh (digging through my brain) none of this is going to be worded intelligently im sorry give me a moment.
there are these kids and some of them can turn into weapons. actually theres just weapon people in general and thats like Normal. dont ask too many lore questions. and they uhhh the kids go to a high school called the DWMA (lit. demon weapon-meister academy) focused on keeping the balance between good and evil. i uhhhhh
The anime is based on the Soul Eater manga series by Atsushi Ohkubo. The plot of the episodes follows Maka Albarn, a "meister" of the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA), and her living weapon, Soul Eater, as she seeks to make the latter into a "death scythe" through absorbing the souls of evil humans.
thanks wikipedia
📌  how did you find your hyperfixation?
uhhh if im not mistaken an old friend introduced me to it back in 2018!! (hi holly the chances of you reading this are slim but hi) and it recently bubbled back up into my brain. ive been here for 2 years
✨  what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it?
i think that drew me towards it initially was the very halloweeny, early 2000s feel to it (and.. fair enough, it WAS made in 2008-2009 so its authentic) but what kept me reeled in was a lot of the themes and symbolism that i am waayy too tired to get into rn but i am just telling you bro this anime hits.. a little deep
and also canon nonbinary (even if shoddily translated at first) and psychotic characters win
🎥 do you have any favorite scenes from your hyperfixation?
i DO but i am keeping this spoiler free for you wife. these are all tearjerkers anyways so
🎶  if your hyperfixation has songs/an ost, what is your favorite song from it?
just one? 🥺 honestly the anime’s entire OST goes hard as hell and its super hard picking favorites but here:
LOTUS JUICE - PSYCHEDELIC SOULJAM DJ SHINYA - NEVER LOSE MYSELF LOTUS JUICE - STEP UP
and this one isnt part of the ost butttt....
CHIAKI OMIGAWA/KOKI UCHIYAMA - SOUL EATER CHARACTER SONG (Soul&Maka) - MAUVE IRO NO SYMPATHY
💕  tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!
i could say crona and talk about their character development and how much i see myself in them and how we share the same trauma. or i could say maka and talk about HER character development and how i see myself in her in the sense of always trying to be good enough and pushing her limits to be strong and resilient in the face of everything. or i could say stein and go in depth about how hes written as a psychotic character while still not letting that define his entire being and how much i see myself in HIM. or i could talk about kid and liz and patti a
💔  tell us about one of your LEAST favorite characters and why you dislike them.
Tumblr media
🏳‍🌈  do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you?
lesbian maka, trans/intersex/nonbinary/lesbian crona, transmasc blackstar, nonbinary kid... literally all of these kids are neurodivergent (i see myself in them moment part 3845875)
🍀  do you have any kins or comfort characters from your hyperfixation?
that’s a little personal don’tcha think?
all jokes aside i don’t think i “kin” but uhhhh. honestly most these characters are comfort characters to me. soul eater in general is comfort media
💎  are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?
*does a silly little dance* OHKAY!
none of the soul eater games (there were 3 of them) were ever released outside of japan
black☆star is voiced by women in both the jp and eng dubs
maka was chiaki omigawa’s first VA role
💢  what do you NOT like about your hyperfixation? is there something you would want to change about it?
this isnt anime specific and i am thinking heavily of the manga crona boobage weirdness but every time atsushi ohkubo writes something weird with these characters i feel like this image. it fills me with primal rage
Tumblr media
anyways thanks for listening this took me over an hour to write amd i kept bouncing around my room because i am so autistic and this series makes me so happy

Chapter 14
We arrive to the woods and begin our search for my dad. "Dad?!" I yell. "Dad!? Wait what's you're dad's name?" Tommy asks. I chuckle. "Derek." I say. "Derek!" Tommy yells. "Dad!?" I yell again. We suddenly hear a noise. I dont know what comes over me but I'm suddenly using my body as a shield to protect Tommy. He looks at me funny. "Sorry instincts. " I admit. Tommy smiles and kisses my cheek. We hear footsteps. I prepare myself for whatever is about to pop up when finally we see Bryce and Danna. I sigh in relief. "Oh hey." Bryce says. "This isnt what it looks like so stop staring." Danna defends herself. "What exactly are you guys doing here?" I ask. "I could ask you the same." Danna responds folding her arms. "Danna was going to show me something, her friends gathered up a special event for me." Bryce admits. And it hits me, Danna was going to use him as bait or worse send him off to the pig slaughter. This is a way for Ashley to toy with me and make me join her pack, whoever comes in contact with me shall pay the price. "Bryce I need you to come with me right now, you're in danger." I say. "What?" Bryce asks. Danna's eyes widen. "I... I don't know what she's talking about." Danna says. I know she's lying. My senses go off, I feel a presence coming. "Bryce please I need you to come here now!" I yell. Before I know it 2 brown wolves appear, tackling all of us. We all grunt. "What was that?" Danna asks. "Wait you really arent apart of this?" I ask confused. "Of course not freak why would I?" Danna responds. The 2 wolves growl at us and transform to human. Before us are a naked Carly and Tanya. They put on a pair of clothes that they had hidden in the trees. "About time you guys showed up." Tanya says. Bryce and Danna couldn't believe what they just witnessed. "What are you two doing?" Danna asks and gets up. "Were here to get Katherine out of the picture like you wanted. We didnt think you'd show up here, it was going to be a surprise." Carly says. "I didnt say to kill her, just to make her life hell, I'm not that cruel." Danna admits. "Aw so you do care." I tease. "Shut up." Danna says. I get up. Bryce moves towards Tommy. "Listen girls why can't we settle this the easy way." I say trying to make the situation better. "Um let me think.... no. Ashley ordered us to kill you and we never back down from an order, and you're petty little friends can watch." Tanya explains. I put my hands up ready to fight I don't care if I win or lose but I will protect my friends, even Danna is a cruel bitch. Carly and Tanya roar and flash their eyes, there blue, they've killed people before. I flash my eyes and take my claws out. May the best woman win. We go at it for sometime, I'm not backing down. I claw Carly in the face. "Ohh look how tuff this true alpha is." Carly says and knocks the wind out of me. I fall to the ground. "Katherine!" Tommy yells. Tanya picks me up by my hair, I groan. Carly gets her claws out. "Sorry I have to ruin this shirt I actually liked it. You should of just joined the pack." Carly says putting her nail up to me. I gulp. "Wait!" Someone says. Ashley comes out. Carly stops. "Ashley... what what are you doing here?" Tanya asks, it's like she's afraid of her. "I don't want her dead.. yet. I know a way we can settle this." Ashley says snapping her fingers. Out of the blue 2 more of her female pack members grab Tommy, he grunts. "No!" I yell trying to escape. Tanya pulls my hair back. "Oh sweetheart I wasn't going to make this easy for you, were women, we mess with each other's hearts." Ashley says. "What do you want?" I ask. "To join me, your mother. We can provide a better life for you." Ashley says. "I'm not a killer." I defend. "It's in you're blood, you just haven't unleashed the beast yet, it's very refreshing." Ashley continues. "I'm not like you." I continue. "You do know we have you're father too right? Why do you think he hasn't come home yet." Ashley says. My anger returns, my blood is boiling. I sigh. "Fine I'll do it." I give up. Everyone gasps. "Dont do it!" Tommy yells. Ashley snaps her fingers to let him go. She turns her attention to Danna. "Ahh a new member I see. Who are you dear?" Ashley asks. "Da..Danna." She gulps. "How would you like to join my pack? Together were in control of everything, were unstoppable. I've kept this pack going on for years." Ashley continues. Danna grins. "Absolutely." Danna says walking up to Ashley. "Danna please you dont want this, I dont even want it." I admit. "Please I wanna be able to do what you can do, think about it, I'd be the queen of high school." Danna says proudly. "Why does every girl want to be queen of school that's so 2000s" I talk to myself. "Could I just say goodbye to my friends first?" I ask. Ashley sighs and gives Carly permission to let me go. I walk up to Tommy, "On the count of 3 run. " I whisper for him and Bryce to hear. "RUN!" I yell. "You didn't count to 3!" Bryce yells. We run for our lives. "Get them. Come on Danna, there is so much to learn." Ashley says taking Danna away. Carly and Tanya chase us. We make it to my car in time. "Get in! Get in!" I yell. Everybody is in and I drive. We lose Carly and Tanya in time, I hope they lost our scents. We arrive at my house. We sit in the back of my van so Carly and Tanya can't find us at the house. "Okay first off... WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WITNESS?!" Bryce yells. "I'm sorry I didnt mean to get you into this Bryce, Tommy you too, God what am I gonna do?!" I say putting my hands in my face. "Were gonna have to go save your dad.. and Danna." Tommy says. "Yeah but how?" I ask. "Maybe you should make you're own pack." Bryce suggests. "Yeah. I'd have to be a true alpha for that to happen." I say. "So why not make yourself one, why dont you ask Scott how he did it." Tommy suggests. "Let me make a phone call." I say. An hour later I hear a knock on the car door. I smile. "Godfather!" I say hugging Scott Mccall. "I came as soon as you told me. So this Ashley person has Derek?" Scott asks. "Yes.. oh by the way this is my friend Bryce and my boy.... boy.....my friend Tommy." I say stuttering. "Hey. " "Hi." They both say. Scott smiles and waves. "Listen I dont know if Derek has said anything but did he tell you I'm on the verge of becoming a true alpha?" I ask. "What? No way! I haven't heard of another true alpha in years." Scott says. "Well, how does one become one?" I ask. "Well if you haven't killed anyone and are only using you're wolf abilities for good, you can turn into one. For me I went through mountain ash and pretty much became one, but there are other ways to do it." Scott explains. "Well I dont know where to get mountain ash so what are the other options?" I ask. "Well another way involves sacrificing yourself, sometimes it does work but it can also kill you, you have to do some kind of good deed before it happens." Scott says. "Well I'm fucked." I simply say. Everyone gasps. "Listen you're a Hale, Hale's dont give up. When we get beaten down we stand back up and fight." Scott says. I smile. "Feels like something my dad should be saying to me, but you really are a great alpha." I say giving him a thank you hug. "Listen I will be around to help, if you need anything me and pack or as I say my friends will be around, a true leader will figure out the solution in no time." Scott says getting out of the van. "He was very inspirational, I know I'm new to this but all of this is just fascinating." Bryce admits. "I know what I have to do." I finally come to terms. "What?" Tommy asks. "I have to give myself to them but maybe we can ambush them!" I say. "How are you going to do that with 2 humans?" Tommy asks. I sigh. "Shit. I can't put you guys in danger." I say in defeat. "What about Brendan?" Tommy asks. "He could be of insistence." I say rubbing my chin. "Listen it's almost dark, maybe we should get some rest and figure it out in the morning how about a camp out!" Bryce suggests. Tommy shrugs his shoulders. "I'm down." He says. I peek out the window to make sure the coast is clear. I run inside quickly and grab some food, blankets and pillows. I text Brendan to let him know what's going on. That night I stay up thinking and preparing for how I am going to get out of this mess... More to come

What Republicans Are Running For President This Year
Tumblr media
The This Sounds Crazy But Hear Me Out Wild Card
GOP Senator Roy Blunt Says 2022 Will Be a Great Election Year for Republicans
Mike Lindell
Donald Trump wasnt the first celebrity businessman without any experience in elective office who got traction in a Republican presidential primary. In 2012, it was former Godfathers Pizza CEO Herman Cain. In 1996 and 2000, it was magazine publisher Steve Forbes. Back in 1940, utility executive Wendell Willkie snagged the GOP nomination.
Today, who is the most famous, politically active Republican businessman? MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. That may sound crazy, but no crazier than what we experienced in 2016.
Lindell is a leader of the bitter-enders trying to overturn the democratic results of the presidential election. He claims to have spent $1 million on legal work and Stop the Steal rallies to support Trumps delusional cause. On December 19, he tweeted out a call for Trump to impose martial law in these 7 states and get the machines/ballots! though he soon deleted the post.
He became a conservative darling in part because he heavily marketed his pillows on Fox News; in the second quarter of 2020, MyPillow was Fox Newss top advertiser, spending more than double the amount of the second-place company. But now he accuses Fox News, and its early call that Biden won Arizona, of conspiring to defeat Trump
What to watch for in 2021:While Lindell has been thinking about a Minnesota gubernatorial bid, he has managed to visit neighboring Iowa several times in 2020. Lets see which state he campaigns in more in 2021.
Filed Under:
Former Un Ambassador Nikki Haley
Haley gets a lot of buzz, and she has been actively courting attention since leaving the Trump administration almost two years ago. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump even considered pulling her in last summer to replace Vice President Mike Pence on the 2020 ticket to help with Trumps ailing numbers among women a move the husband-wife White House duo fervently denied.);
Haley moves up a notch based on consistent exposure since June, a prime speaking slot at the Republican National Convention on Monday night, and a strong showing of 11 percent support in the most-recent 2024 poll.;
The former South Carolina governor can stake claim to being popular among the world of Washington pundits and professional political types, many of whom were interviewed for this story and spoke very highly of her. But she has also been dinged by some operatives as more of a media creation than a serious contender for 2024.
Leaving the job was hard, but putting family first was more important. And I think now its about taking it a year at a time, she said earlier this year during a meeting of the Federalist Society.
William Henry Harrison Vs Martin Van Buren
Aware that Van Burens problems gave them a good chance for victory, the Whigs rejected the candidacy of Henry Clay, their most prominent leader, because of his support for the unpopular Second Bank of the United States. Instead, stealing a page from the Democratic emphasis on Andrew Jacksons military exploits, they chose William Henry Harrison, a hero of early Indian wars and the War of 1812. The Whig vice-presidential nominee was John Tyler, a onetime Democrat who had broken with Jackson over his veto of the bill rechartering the Second Bank.
Studiously avoiding divisive issues like the Bank and internal improvements, the Whigs depicted Harrison as living in a log cabin and drinking hard cider. They used slogans like Tippecanoe and Tyler too, and Van, Van, Van/Van is a used-up man, to stir voters. Harrison won by a popular vote of 1,275,612 to 1,130,033, and an electoral margin of 234 to 60. But the victory proved to be a hollow one because Harrison died one month after his inauguration. Tyler, his successor, would not accept Whig economic doctrine, and the change in presidential politics had little effect on presidential policy.

Eight Republican 2024 Candidates Speak In Texas Next Week But Not Trump
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WASHINGTON, April 30 A Republican Party event in Texas next week will hear from eight potential candidates for the partys presidential nomination in 2024, without former President Donald Trump, a source involved in the planning said on Friday.
The May 7 event at a hotel in Austin is being co-hosted by U.S. Senator John Cornyn and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, to thank donors who helped fund a voter registration drive and get-out-the-vote efforts in the state.
High-profile Republican politicians who are considering whether to seek the partys nomination in 2024 are expected to speak to the crowd of about 200 donors.
They include former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and U.S. senators Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and Rick Scott, the source said.
The event comes as Republicans wrestle with whether to try to move past Trump in the next election cycle or fall in line behind him. Trump told Fox Business Networks Maria Bartiromo on Thursday that he was 100% considering another run after losing in 2020 to Democrat Joe Biden.
Trump was not invited to Texas, the source said. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was invited but was unable to attend, the source said.
Many Republican insiders doubt Trump will follow through on his musings about running for president in 2024, leaving a void that other party leaders will seek to fill.

Notable Candidates Include Individuals Who Have Qualified To Appear On Enough State There Were 21 Candidates On The Ballot Each In Vermont And Colorado
Bush said in retrospect that the divisiveness of the primary challenge might have cost bush reelection. There are several people running for the republican nomination, but given the current president is a republican, he is the only one that matters. Notable candidates include individuals who have qualified to appear on enough state there were 21 candidates on the ballot each in vermont and colorado. While the republican and democratic nominees will be on the ballot in all states, independents must meet an array why is he running for president? Former congressmen joe walsh announces republican presidential primary challenge.
But it can be repaired by someone who can lead, and i ran for president to win and make a difference in our great country, swalwell photo: Since the current president is democrat, we already know who the democrat running for president will be . The only other person running worth mentioning is bill weld, former governor of massachusetts, who was the libertarian nominee for vp back in 2016. Other republicans have made it quite clear they dont see a path to the nomination for anyone but trump in 2020. I think that as a republican party, we have lost our way. mark sanford.
Lincoln Chafeewho Is He
The failson scion of a Rhode Island Republican family, Chafee served in the Senate as a Republican ; as governor, as an independent and then a Democrat ; and then ran for president as a Democrat in 2016.
Is he running? No. He filed papers to run for the Libertarian Party nomination on January 5, but dropped out on April 7.
Why did he want to run?
Who wanted him to run?
Could he have won the nomination? Given that he dropped his bid even without any serious rivals in the race, apparently not.

At present, Weld is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Self-described as strongly pro-choice when it comes to abortion rights, he is also said to believe that drug use should not be considered a criminal offense. He feels the drinking age should be lowered but has not stated at what age it should be set.;
When it comes to matters of the military, Weld also draws a conservative line. He feels that America should withdraw its troops from foreign engagements and that the countrys efforts and resources should be refocused on domestic issues, in order to prosper.;According to Aljhazeera.com, Weld previously supported bans on assault weapons in the US.
Sen Elizabeth Warren D
Colorado’s only Republican governor elected within last 50 years says presidential race is over
After establishing a presidential exploratory committee just before New Year’s Day 2019, Warren officially joined the race in February with an event in Massachusetts.
“This is the fight of our lives,” the senator said. “The fight to build an America where dreams are possible, an America that works for everyone. I am in that fight all the way.”
The progressive candidate who ran against corruption and pumped out more than 50 policy proposals during her campaign, suspended her run after a lackluster finish in all four early voting states and on Super Tuesday — where she even came up short in her home state. Her best finish was in Iowa, where she came in third.
“I will not be running for president in 2020. But I guarantee I will stay in the fight for the hard-working folks across the country who’ve got the short end of the stick, over and over,” she told reporters at a media availability in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 5.
Don’t Miss: Which 10 Republicans Voted To Impeach
Cancellation Of State Caucuses Or Primaries
The Washington Examiner reported on December 19, 2018, that the South Carolina Republican Party had not ruled out forgoing a primary contest to protect Trump from any primary challengers. Party chairman Drew McKissick stated, “Considering the fact that the entire party supports the president, we’ll end up doing what’s in the president’s best interest.” On January 24, another Washington Examiner report indicated that the Kansas Republican Party was “likely” to scrap its presidential caucus to “save resources”.
In August 2019, the Associated Press reported that the Nevada Republican Party was also contemplating canceling their caucuses, with the state party spokesman, Keith Schipper, saying it “isn’t about any kind of conspiracy theory about protecting the president;… He’s going to be the nominee;… This is about protecting resources to make sure that the president wins in Nevada and that Republicans up and down the ballot win in 2020.”
Kansas, Nevada and South Carolina’s state committees officially voted on September 7, 2019, to cancel their caucus and primary. The Arizona state Republican Party indicated two days later that it will not hold a primary. These four were joined by the Alaska state Republican party on September 21, when its central committee announced they would not hold a presidential primary.
Virginia Republicans decided to allocate delegates at the state convention.
Dwight D Eisenhower: Campaigns And Elections
The Campaign and Election of 1952:
During an extraordinary military career, Dwight D. Eisenhower had done some things that few, if any, Americans had ever experienced. But he had not done something that was extremely commonhe had never voted. Yet in 1948, many Americans hoped that the general would cast his first ballotfor himself as President. Even Harry S. Truman tried to interest Eisenhower in a run for the presidency. As the election year of 1948 approached, Truman, who became President when Franklin D. Roosevelt died in 1945, seemed to have little chance of winning a full term of his own. In a private meeting, Truman proposed that he and Eisenhower run together on the Democratic ticket, with Eisenhower as the presidential candidate and Truman in second position. Eisenhower rejected this astonishing offer and probably thought that he would never again have to consider the possibility of a run for the White House. He also spurned requests from prominent Republicans that he seek the GOP nomination for President.

Trump As A Stalking Horse
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, there was plenty of speculation during the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination that Trump was trying to sabotage the GOP candidates by saying outrageous things and making a mockery of the process in a bid to help Hillary Clinton win the election.
“Donald Trump is trolling the GOP,” political reporter Jonathan Allen wrote. Trump also threatened to run for president as an independent, a move many believed would siphon votes from the Republican nominee as other, similar candidates have done in the past.

Former Secretary Of State Mike Pompeo
If the 2024 election turns into a foreign policy debate, the 57-year-old Pompeo is in a strong position with his background as former secretary of state and CIA director.
During Pompeos recent speech at the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale, Iowa, he gave a preview of some of the lines that might end up in his presidential stump speech. He said hes spent more time with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un than any other American, including basketball star Dennis Rodman, and talked about the threat he sees from China. His mention of the U.S. moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem during his tenure was met with applause.
Before serving in Trumps Cabinet, Pompeo blasted then-candidate Trump as an authoritarian. Pompeo made the remarks the day of the Kansas caucus in 2016, quoting Trump saying that if he told a soldier to commit a war crime, they would go and do it. Pompeo said the U.S. had spent 7½ years with an authoritarian president who ignored the Constitution, referencing former President Barack Obama, and we dont need four more years of that.
Pompeo served three full terms representing Kansas in the U.S. House before joining the Trump administration. He and his wife, Susan, have one child. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and Harvard Law and served in the U.S. Army.
Donald J Trump Vs Hillary R Clinton
The 2016 election was unconventional in its level of divisiveness. Former first lady, New York Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton became the first woman to be nominated by a major party in a U.S. presidential election. Donald Trump, a New York real estate baron and reality TV star, was quick to mock fellow Republicans running for the nomination as well as his democratic opponent.
In what many political analysts considered a stunning upset, Trump, with his populist, nationalist campaign, lost the popular vote, but won the Electoral College, becoming the nations 45th president.
Popular Vote: 65,853,516 to 62,984,825 . Electoral College: 306 to 232 .

Buttigieg first made a national name for himself with a bid for Democratic National Committee chair in 2017. He was the youngest candidate in the 2020 race, and could have become the first gay man to be elected president.
While he trailed many of his opponents in name recognition early on, Buttigieg argued that he could represent a generational shift in government, and speaks frequently of issues that will affect younger Americans, such as tax reform, gun control and climate change.
“I get the audacity of somebody like me talking about running for this office, but frankly it’s a leap for anybody,” Buttigieg said on ABC’s “This Week” in February. “And yet all of the people who had that job have been mortals who just bring their experience to the table. My experience is that of guiding a city through transformation, and I think a mayor at any level has the kind of executive frontline government experience and, by the way, problem-solving experience that we need more in Washington right now.”
Late on March 1, following the South Carolina primary and ahead of Super Tuesday, he said “the path has narrowed to a close” and announced that he was suspending his 2020 presidential campaign.
Trump Remains 2024 Candidate Of Choice For Most Republicans Poll Shows
How GOP retirements are making the 2022 midterm elections a Trump referendum
59% of Republican voters said they wanted Trump to play prominent role in party, but tens of thousands left after Capitol riot
If the 2024 Republican presidential primary were held today, Donald Trump would be the clear favorite to win big. That was the message from a Politico-Morning Consult poll released on Tuesday, three days after Trumps acquittal in his second impeachment trial, on a charge of inciting the insurrection at the US Capitol on 6 January.
Among Republican voters, 59% said they wanted Trump to play a prominent role in their party, up a whopping 18 points from the last such poll, taken in the aftermath of the Capitol riot. A slightly lower number, 54%, said they would back Trump in the primary.
Tens of thousands of Republicans left the party after the Capitol insurrection, and a majority of Americans have told other pollsters they would like to see Trump banished from politics.
Though the 45th president will be 78 by election day 2024, he will be able to run again if he chooses, having escaped being barred from office after a 57-43 Senate vote to convict with seven Republican defections but 10 votes short of the majority needed.
Mike Pences life was threatened by Trump supporters at the Capitol, as the vice-president presided over the ratification of electoral college results confirming Trumps defeat by Joe Biden. He placed second in the Politico-Morning Consult poll, with 12%.

AP FACT CHECK: Trump claims innocence in probe; wall myths
WASHINGTON — Feeling the pressure of investigations and a partial government shutdown, President Donald Trump is playing loose with the facts regarding hush payments made by his former attorney Michael Cohen to two women and is changing his story on his promise to build a concrete border wall paid for by Mexico.
In comments over the weekend, Trump said he did not commit any campaign violation and suggests anything improper would be minor compared with infractions of Democrats such as former President Barack Obama. The reality is not so cut and dried. Federal prosecutors in New York have implicated Trump in a crime, linking him to the hush-money scheme. The Obama campaign’s infractions were civil, not criminal.
On the border wall, Trump insists he never promised a concrete barrier — even though he did — and asserts that much of it has been built. It hasn’t.
The dubious statements capped an expansive week of assertions by the president. On top of the usual Twitter flow, Trump opened a Cabinet meeting with 90 minutes of opining to the press, touching on immigration, drug prices, the Soviet history in Afghanistan, his approval ratings, Syria, oil prices, the attractiveness of his generals (“better looking than Tom Cruise”), and much more. A few days later he spoke for an hour at a Rose Garden news conference.
A sampling of his claims:
TRUMP INVESTIGATIONS
TRUMP: “Many people currently a part of my opposition, including President Obama & the Dems, have had campaign violations, in some cases for very large sums of money. These are civil cases. They paid a fine & settled. While no big deal, I did not commit a campaign violation!” — tweet Saturday.
THE FACTS: Trump has been tied to — but not charged with — a crime. At issue is not a routine campaign violation.
Prosecutors’ court filings last month said Trump directed Cohen to make payments to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal during the 2016 presidential campaign. Both women alleged they had extramarital affairs with Trump, which the White House denies.
Cohen, who pleaded guilty in August to campaign finance crimes in connection with those payments, had previously implicated Trump. Now the Justice Department is backing up Cohen’s claims.
In particular, the Justice Department says the hush money payments were unreported campaign contributions meant to influence the outcome of the election. That assertion makes the payments subject to campaign finance laws, which restrict how much people can donate to a campaign and bar corporations from making direct contributions.
It’s unclear whether Trump will actually be charged with illegal activity, because Justice Department legal memos from 1973 and 2000 have suggested that a sitting president is immune from indictment. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told NBC this past week that Trump isn’t necessarily immune, calling an indictment of a sitting president “an open discussion in terms of the law.”
There’s a big difference between Obama’s campaign violation and Cohen’s case.
A Federal Election Commission audit found that the 2008 Obama campaign failed to file 48-hour contribution reports in a timely manner for more than 1,200 donations totalling $1.9 million. The commission also found the campaign was late refunding some contributions that exceeded legal limits, and discovered some other reporting errors regarding contribution dates.
The commission fined the Obama campaign $375,000 for the violations. The campaign was not found to have wilfully violated the law, making it a civil infraction.
In Cohen’s case, he admitted he knew he was breaking the law by making the payments. Cohen told ABC last month that “of course” Trump knew it was wrong to make the hush-money payments, though he did not provide any specific evidence in the interview. Unlike the Obama case, where the issue was timely reporting, the hush money payments were never disclosed at all on Trump’s campaign filings.
Andrew Herman, a lawyer specializing in campaign finance at law firm Miller & Chevalier, said the two cases are “completely different species.”
“One is a paperwork error,” he said. “And the other is a conscious attempt to obscure payments made to affect an election.”
——
THE WALL
TRUMP: “As far as concrete, I said I was going to build a wall. I never said, ‘I’m going to build a concrete.’ I said I’m going to build a wall.” — Rose Garden news conference Friday.
THE FACTS: Actually, he did say he would build a concrete wall. Trump even repeated that promise last week, rejecting the claim of his departing White House chief of staff John Kelly that Trump had abandoned the notion of “a solid concrete wall early on in the administration.”
“An all concrete Wall was NEVER ABANDONED,” Trump tweeted on Dec. 31. “Some areas will be all concrete but the experts at Border Patrol prefer a Wall that is see through.”
During the 2016 campaign, Trump pledged to build a “big, beautiful wall” made of concrete, rebar and steel across the length of the southern border with Mexico. Back then, he lashed out at the suggestion that what he was proposing had anything in common with mere fencing.
“Jeb Bush just talked about my border proposal to build a ‘fence,’ he tweeted in 2015. “It’s not a fence, Jeb, it’s a WALL, and there’s a BIG difference!”
He now often refers to the wall as “steel slats.”
“Steel is stronger than concrete,” he said Friday. “If I build a steel wall rather than a concrete wall, it will actually be stronger than a concrete” wall.
——
TRUMP: “When they say ‘build the wall,’ I don’t say that any more. I say ‘finish the wall.”‘ — remarks to reporters Sunday.
TRUMP: “We’ve already built a lot of the wall.” — Rose Garden news conference Friday.
THE FACTS: He hasn’t built much of the wall at all.
Trump’s claim is only supported when counting work done under past presidents and ignoring the fact that fences from prior administrations are not the towering walls he promised. The 2006 Secure Fence Act has resulted in about 650 miles (1,050 kilometres) of border barrier. Money approved by Congress in March 2018 is to pay for 84 miles (135 km), but that work is not done. Trump has achieved some renovation of existing barrier.
——
TRUMP: “The drugs are pouring into this country. They don’t go through the ports of entry. When they do, they sometimes get caught.” — Rose Garden news conference.
THE FACTS: He’s wrong in saying drug smugglers don’t or only rarely use official border crossings for their trafficking. Land ports of entry are their primary means for getting drugs into the country, not stretches of the border without barriers, says the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
The agency said in a November report that the most common trafficking technique by transnational criminal organizations is to hide drugs in passenger vehicles or tractor-trailers as they drive into the U.S. though entry ports, where they are stopped and subject to inspection. They also employ buses, cargo trains and tunnels, the report says, citing smuggling methods that would not be choked off by a border wall.
——
TRUMP: “The new trade deal we have with Mexico and Canada — what we save on that, just with Mexico, will pay for the wall many times over, just in a period of a year, two years or three years. So I view that as absolutely Mexico is paying for the wall.” — Rose Garden news conference.
THE FACTS: Mexico is not paying for the wall and nothing in the trade agreement would cover or refund the construction cost.
Trump is assuming a wide variety of economic benefits will come from the agreement, but they can’t be quantified or counted on. For example, he said the deal will dissuade some U.S. companies from moving operations to Mexico and he credits that possibility as a payment by Mexico for his wall.
The deal updates the North American Free Trade Agreement, in the main preserving NAFTA’s liberalized environment of low or no tariffs among the U.S., Mexico and Canada, while making certain improvements for each country. Trump stated inaccurately that it’s “brand new. It’s totally different.”
Moreover, it’s not in effect. The deal has yet to be ratified in any member country and its chances of winning legislative approval are not assured.
Trump has argued repeatedly that Mexico is footing the bill even while insisting on $5.6 billion from the U.S. treasury to go toward wall construction. His demand and the refusal of Democrats to satisfy it are behind the budget standoff that has closed parts of the government.
——
SYRIA
TRUMP: “We are pulling back in Syria. We’re going to be removing our troops. I never said we’re doing it that quickly.” — remarks to reporters Sunday.
TRUMP: “We’re bringing the troops back home over a period of time. I never said so quickly, but over a period of time.” — Cabinet meeting Wednesday.
THE FACTS: He’s wrong about his past statements regarding the pace of withdrawal. In a video posted to his Twitter account on Dec. 19, for instance, Trump said of the roughly 2,000 troops in Syria: “They’re all coming back, and they’re coming back now.”
——
TRUMP: “I read, when we pull out, ‘Oh, Russia is thrilled.’ Russia is not happy. You know why they’re not happy? Because they like it when we’re killing ISIS, because we’re killing them for them, and we’re killing them for Assad, and we’re killing ISIS also for Iran.” — Cabinet meeting.
THE FACTS: Russia says it’s happy. A U.S. withdrawal opens opportunities for Moscow and Tehran to increase their influence and may help the Syrian government survive as a Kurdish-led opposition force loses its military ally on the ground.
Russian President Vladimir Putin says the U.S. “has done the right thing” in planning to pull out.
——
AFGHANISTAN
TRUMP: “The reason Russia was in Afghanistan was because terrorists were going into Russia. They (the Soviets) were right to be there.” — Cabinet meeting.
THE FACTS: His assertion that the Soviet Union was experiencing a terrorist influx from Afghanistan when it invaded in 1979 is out of step with history. And his belief that the Soviets were right to invade is a stark departure from U.S. and world opinion.
The Soviets were trying to bolster communists in Afghanistan and possibly expand their influence against the United States and the West.
World condemnation was swift: The U.N. General Assembly voted 104-18 to deplore the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan. The U.S. supported the anti-communist rebels, giving them shoulder-fired rockets to down Soviet aircraft. The Soviets withdrew in 1989.
——
TRUMP: “Russia used to be the Soviet Union. Afghanistan made it Russia, because they went bankrupt fighting in Afghanistan.” — Cabinet meeting.
THE FACTS: Afghanistan was far from the sole reason for the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. The dissolution occurred in a time of ethnic and political troubles, economic woes and a series of revolutions that led Soviet republics to seek their independence. The Soviet demise was accelerated by the heavy cost of competing with the West to wield influence around the world, including in Afghanistan.
——
OIL PRICES
TRUMP: “Do you think it’s just luck that gas prices are so low, and falling? Low gas prices are like another Tax Cut!” — tweet Tuesday.
TRUMP: “It’s not luck. It’s not luck. I called up certain people, and I said, ‘Let that damn oil and gasoline — you let it flow — the oil.’ It was going up to $125. If that would’ve happened, then you would’ve had a recession, depression.” — Cabinet meeting Wednesday.
THE FACTS: It’s not all about him, or even mostly about him.
While Americans may end up paying somewhat less for gasoline this year, Trump’s suggestion that he deserves all the credit and averted a U.S. economic depression is an exaggeration. Oil prices, which peaked Oct. 3, have been generally falling on the realization that U.S. sanctions against Iran would not create a shortage and on fear that a global oversupply of oil will spill into 2019 if slower international economic growth depresses energy demand.
The president’s supposed “let it flow” edict did not stop OPEC and its Russia-led allies from agreeing last month to cut oil production. That initially failed to stop oil prices from sliding further; they have since rebounded a few dollars in the past week. Continued OPEC production cuts would push prices higher.
Trump has pointed to his positive relations with Saudi Arabia, which remains the biggest oil exporter. As a so-called swing producer with the ability to adjust production up or down relatively quickly, it can indeed influence the price of crude. But the market is complex: Canada, for example, is actually the top source of U.S. oil imports, with Saudi Arabia second.
——
TARIFFS
TRUMP: “The United States Treasury has taken in MANY billions of dollars from the Tariffs we are charging China and other countries that have not treated us fairly. In the meantime we are doing well in various Trade Negotiations currently going on.” — tweet Thursday.
THE FACTS: Trump is off on two major issues. First, tariffs are taxes paid largely by U.S. business and consumers, not foreign countries. And while Trump’s “MANY billions” might sound like a lot, it’s doing little to nothing to improve the federal balance sheet. The U.S. government spent $4.1 trillion last fiscal year and the budget deficit shot up, according to Trump’s own Treasury Department.
Customs and duties generated $41.3 billion in revenues last year, up from $34.6 billion in 2017.
That $6.7 billion increase occurred in part because of the president’s tariffs. But it amounted to just 0.16 per cent of federal spending.
——
MATTIS
TRUMP, on Jim Mattis: “I wish him well. I hope he does well. But, as you know, President (Barack) Obama fired him and essentially so did I. I want results.” — Cabinet meeting Wednesday.
THE FACTS: Actually, Mattis resigned as defence secretary in protest over Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops from Syria.
The retired Marine general announced on Dec. 20 in a resignation letter that he was stepping down after Trump’s decision to withdraw 2,000 U.S. troops from Syria. Mattis said he would stay on the job until the end of February. Three days later, Trump said he was replacing Mattis with the second-ranking defence official, Pat Shanahan, on Jan. 1.
As to the tenure under Obama, Mattis served as commander of the military’s Central Command. He departed a few months earlier than expected in 2013, in part because of disagreements over Iran.
——
DRUG PRICES
TRUMP: “I think you’re going to see a tremendous reduction in drug prices.” — Cabinet meeting Wednesday.
THE FACTS: Prices continue to rise. Administration policies announced last year and currently being completed don’t seem to have shifted that trend.
Figures on U.S. prescription drug price changes compiled by health data company Elsevier show that from Dec. 20 through Jan. 2, there were 1,179 product price changes. Of those, 30 were price cuts and the remaining 1,149 were price increases, with 328 of them between 9 per cent and 10 per cent. All but one of the rest were by lower percentages. Elsevier spokesman Chris Capot said more companies will be announcing price increases this month.
Separately, a data firm whose software can help patients find the most cost-effective medications says its information shows price increases on many commonly used drugs for conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
“In the first two days of January, prices have increased on more than 250 different products,” said Michael Rea, CEO of Rx Savings Solutions. The average increase is about 6 per cent, he added.
——
IMMIGRATION
TRUMP, on the number of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally: “I used to hear 11 million all the time. It would always stay right at 11. I said, ‘Does it ever increase or go down?’ ‘No, it’s 11.’ Nobody knows. It’s probably 30, 35 million people. They would flow in, mostly from the southern border, they’d come in and nobody would talk about it, nobody would do anything about it.” — Cabinet meeting Wednesday.
THE FACTS: It’s nowhere close to 30 million to 35 million, according to his own Homeland Security secretary as well as independent estimates.
The nonpartisan Pew Research Center estimates there were 10.7 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally in 2016, the most recent data available. Advocacy groups on both sides of the immigration issue have similar estimates.
At a House hearing last month, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen acknowledged the number was “somewhere” between 11 million and 22 million, significantly lower than Trump’s claim of 35 million.
According to Pew, the number of immigrants in the U.S. illegally had reached a height of 12.2 million in 2007, representing about 4 per cent of the U.S. population, before declining in part because of a weakening U.S. economy.
——
TRUMP: “The coyotes are using children to gain access into this country. They’re using these children. They’re not with families. They’re using the children. They’re taking the children. And then they dispose of the children after they’re done. This has been going on for years. This isn’t unique to us. But we want to stop it.” — Cabinet meeting Wednesday.
THE FACTS: This does happen, though it’s not as common as Trump suggests by talking about it so often.
He is referring to adults who come with children they falsely claim to be theirs, so that they won’t be detained under a no-child-separation policy.
But such cases of fraud are rare. According to the Homeland Security Department, about 500 immigrants were found to be not a “legitimate family unit” and thus separated upon detention from April 19 to Sept. 30 of last year. That’s a small fraction of the 107,000 families apprehended in the last budget year, which ended Sept. 30.

I never thought of myself as a “girly girl” until the other day when my editor asked me my favorite Christmas movie. My first thought … “Can I look that up on Pinterest?” It’s true, you can.
I had no idea of my favorite Christmas movie. Aren’t they all the same? I’m really not what you would call a movie lover, and if you ask my co-worker, Elyse, she’ll tell you I’m a Scrooge. That’s a lie. I love Christmas, but Christmas movies? Like with Santa and reindeer and stuff?
My favorite Christmas movie, which some may argue is not a Christmas movie, is “The Holiday.” Yes, the rom-com with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Don’t believe it’s a Christmas movie? Google it. “The Holiday” ends like every other Christmas movie: You feel all warm and giddy inside. It’ll put you right into the Christmas spirit, just like Rudolph! And there’s lots of snow, so it must be a Christmas movie.
And if “The Holiday” counts, “Sweet Home Alabama” should too, right? There’s no snow, but that’s like every Christmas I’ve ever seen in the deep South, so it must be right. And then there’s the reason I became a journalist: “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
But on a serious note, I like “The Santa Clause” and “Elf,” and, of course, the classics like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” but here are my top three Christmas movies and why I love them:
THE HOLIDAY
This movie is about two women with guy problems (I can so relate) and how they want to experience somewhere new for Christmas. They swap homes, and both fall in love with a man in a town halfway across the world from their own.
It turns out the website from the movie, homeexchange.com, is real, so I know what I’m doing tonight. Just kidding, Rick (my editor-in-chief). But really, I would love to meet my own handsome Jude Law in some little cottage in England. I know, I know, movies aren’t real, and it never happens that way … but Christmas is about believing, right?
If you’re into rom-coms like me and you haven’t seen this movie, you need to watch it right away. You will fall in love and be more jolly than ever.
HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
I bet you thought my next one would be “Love Actually.” It probably would be if I had seen it … That’s what I’m doing Saturday. But back to business. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” – the one from 2000 with Jim Carey – is a classic.
One of my favorite things about this movie is all the little Who songs. I still sing along with every one of them. If this would have been a list of my favorite Christmas songs, this story would have been done last week.
But here’s the thing, I’ve always been on the Grinch’s side. This is probably why Elyse thinks I’m a Scrooge, but it’s totally out of love. I mean, in the end they all get along anyway, and it doesn’t even matter. Anyway …
My favorite scenes are when young Grinch has a crush on Martha May Whovier, and he does his best to win her affection. My heart melts for the poor guy when all the little Whos make fun of him, and if you can’t choose him after all that, do you even really know what Christmas is?
I completely understand why he wanted to ruin Christmas for the Whos. Revenge! But that’s not what Christmas is about, it’s about love. And that’s exactly why this movie makes it in my top three.
“In Whoville they say that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day … And then the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of ten Grinches, plus two!”
How clever, Dr. Seuss.
THE POLAR EXPRESS
This one is full of great quotes, and it’s not even the movie itself that makes it one of my favorites. It reminds me a lot of my own family. As an elementary school teacher, my mother looked most forward to “Polar Express” day, when she could sit Indian-style in the middle of the floor with her class of 8-year-olds, put on “The Polar Express” and sip hot chocolate from a mug.
Of course, my favorite Christmas quote of all time came from this movie: “Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can’t see.” And it’s not talking about Santa Claus or reindeer. It’s about all those untouchable emotions, like friendship, love and hope, that shape who we are.
I’m fortunate to have a family that cares little for materialistic things. We express our feelings openly, and everybody’s feelings matters as much as the other’s. And if something’s wrong, you might as well get it off your chest when you walk into Mama’s house. Otherwise, you’ll be questioned, maybe even tormented, until you let everybody know what’s got you down in the dumps.
I’ve truly been blessed. I’ve learned what it means to have the spirit of Christmas, the spirit of giving and the spirit of love.
See, I’m no Scrooge. You talk about love, and I’m all in. My mother no longer teaches third grade, but I’d be more than happy to curl up on the couch with reindeer blankets and hot chocolate while watching “The Polar Express” together. I know she would, too.
So if the silver bell rings for all who truly believe, then you could easily say, I still hear the sweet sound.
Merry Christmas!

A Definitive Ranking Of 2000s Rom Coms
Although people who peaked in high school like to act poetic about how great the 2000s were, they werent actually any better than the present day. I mean, it was a time when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wore matching denim outfits in public and nobody carted them off to an insane asylum.
But Im prepared to make a concession on two points: 1) At least we werent under the administration of a sentient slime mold wearing a bad wig. 2) The 2000s were a golden age for romantic comedies, mostly thanks to Judy Greers tireless efforts to play every heroines best friend. Plus, only like half the jokes were sexist, and there was about an 80% chance pre-pretentious Matthew McConaughey would show up.
Obviously, a betch has to be picky about her rom-comssome are shitty in a good way, but others are best avoided in case someone catches you watching them. To guide your Netflix viewings, here’s a totally objective list of 00s rom coms. If you disagree, which Im sure everyone will, please note that Im not actually forcing you to watch these movies; Im just saying that if you regularly watch any of the bottom five, you have terrible taste.
14.
is considered a modern classic by two groups of people. 1) men in their late 20s with a crush on Natalie Portman and a thriving quarter-life crisis and 2) 8th graders in 2004 under the assumption that any movie that features a Shins track in its soundtrack is automatically deep. To everyone else, its a film about self-absorbed white people whining about their lives until theyre magically fixed by the power of mixtapes. There are approximately a zillion issues with this film, beginning with Zach Braffs complete lack of expression and ending with the fact that you cant cure real depression by listening to The Shins, no matter how clearly superior the soundtrack is to anything else in this film. Worst of all, though, is the fact that Natalie Portman played a manic pixie dream girl so obnoxious I still dream about strangling her character sometimes. Padme deserves so much better.
13.
Im not saying romantic comedies have to make much sense, but s plot is mystifying. Matthew McConaugheys parents are tired of him living at home, so they call in a lady high class escort (Sarah Jessica Parker) whose job is literally seducing men into moving out of their parents basements and unceremoniously dumping them. Because that’s plausible, and not at all fucked up to force your son to fall in love with someone you’re paying. Ridiculous premise aside, you know a movie is terrible when famed nicegirl Zooey Deschanel is the best thing about it.
12. Monster-in-Law
In case you missed this one, and for your sake I hope you did, is about Jane Fonda inexplicably being terrible to Jennifer Lopez, who walks a lot of dogs and is engaged to Fondas son. That right there should tell you all you need to knowI cannot think of one movie that JLo was in that was anything above mild torture, and we’re supposed to root for her character why, exactly? If my son was engaged to a full-time dog walker you can best believe I’d do everything short of actual murder to put a stop to that bullshit.
11.
Im told some people love this movie, but Jesus fucking Christ, is it possible for the two main characters to be any more appalling? Here you have two assholes manipulating the shit out of each other and just generally acting psychotic, all to win a stupid bet with their friends. They really should call it “How To Act Like A Psychopath And Lose Your Dignity.”
10.
Not gonna lie, I fucking adored when I was an impressionable preteen. It had time travel! Mark Ruffalo! A makeover scene! Years later, the movie is still fun to watch, even if it is way too obsessed with the 80s, but the jokes are more cute than funny. Also, why would anyone allow their 13-year-old child to go to a sleepover hosted by a 30-year-old? That is … questionable to say the least. Not to mention Jennifer Garner’s character does a reverse transformation from a betch into a nicegirl and dumps her hot pro bf in favor of her formerly fat friend. Blah blah, true love, I don’t give a fuck. Tenth.
9.
is close to being wrapped in cutesy narration, but it’s far superior. For one thing, it reintroduced the world to Joseph Gordon-Levitts dimples. For another, it manages to be a fairly realistic depiction of a shitty millennial relationship without being super fucking depressing. But thats also kind of the problemrom coms arent supposed to be realistic, theyre supposed to be clich and feel-good, and I don’t care what you say, Summer is a thot. I have literally stayed up at night mapping how she could have possibly met someone worthy of engagement a mere 118 days after she broke up with Tom, and only six days after attending a wedding as his guest (yes I did the mathI told you; this movie keeps me up at night). No matter how you slice it, she had to have cheated on somebody.
8.
Full disclosure: As a Southern betch, Im stoked that takes place right next door. (Dear Hollywood: An entire country exists between New York and LA.) But even though it features Patrick Dempsey as the other man, Josh Lucas with a dreamy Southern accent, and Reese Witherspoon, there are still some issues. Mainly, WTF WERE YOU THINKING, MELANIE? Did you really dump your future president fianc for your secret redneck husband just so “the first boy you kissed could also be your last”? I’ve heard of trying to keep your number down, but damn if this isn’t some delusional shit.
7.
Everyone on planet Earth can relate to having a batshit crazy family, and thats exactly what makes appealing. The two leads are fine, considering they’re not Kate Hudson or Matthew McConaughey, but the extended family is everyones favorite part of the movie. Honestly the most memorable moment to come out of this movie is the “put some Windex on it”pretty good deal for Windex, not so much for the people who actually starred in the movie. However, it does get points for the memorable line: “The man may be the head of the household, but the woman is the neck and she can turn the head any way she pleases.”
6.
The plot is pretty flimsy (a Canadian businesswoman has to marry her assistant to avoid deportation) but everyone loves a story where the couple starts out hating each other and eventually falls in love. The cast is what makes this movie pure rom com gold: Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, and Betty fucking White, who gifted us with the infamous Native American dance scene. Basically, it’s predictable but ridiculous, making it better than some of the other garbage movies on this list.
5.
Admittedly, is probably to blame for some of the chubby man-child/beautiful, svelte woman couplings we see in the media that give men unrealistic beauty expectations (of the types of women they can expect to date), otherwise known as The Beyonc/Jay Z Phenomenon. But whatevs. Its a good movie. Seth Rogen has that whole dad bod thing going onapparently a thing some people are intoand Katherine Heigl was at the top of her rom com game before she pissed off the entire cast of .is actually hilarious, which is enough to make up for the fact that Katherine Heigl appears in it.

Even aside from my undeniable crush on youthful Sandra Bullock, is a quintessential early-2000s romantic comedy. Allow me to explain. 1) It stars an ambitious career woman who dont need no man. 2) But she kind of wants one anyway, and everyone realizes what a catch she is when she puts on lipstick and a dress. 3) Did I mention its plot is literally an extended makeover scene as Bullock goes from bad ass FBI agent to bad ass beauty pageant contestant? I rest my case. Add in some cute female friendships and a scene in which Bullock teaches us how to fend off an attacker, and its basically required viewing every year.

You had to know was going to make the list despite this amazing take-down article of why it’s actually terrible. With approximately a bajillion storylines going on, its hard not to find one you like and get invested, and it doesnt hurt that the film features every well-known British actor under the sun. Im not sure how the movie manages to juggle all the different plots without being confusing and/or boring, but Im not gonna question it. However, this shit is TOO FUCKING LONG. If I have to pop an Adderall just to make it through a damn movie (which I do), you need to send your editors back to the drawing board.

is the perfect example of a rom com thats super clich in theory, but in practice, its so fucking heartwarming it doesnt even matter (ugh). Katherine Heigl plays ultimate nicegirl Jane (in case the fact that her name is “Jane” wasn’t enough of a clue), whos been part of 27 weddings and miraculously hasnt gone broke from buying all the bridesmaid dresses. The dudes are pretty forgettable, but Janes psychotic sister and slutty best friend totally steal the spotlight, elevating the film to truly betchy heights.
P.S. For once, James Marsden plays the leading man, so his preternaturally perfect face gets more screen time, #bless.

Bridget Joness Diary is the ultimate feel-good movie, as in its literally impossible to watch it without feeling your icy soul thaw ever so slightly at the end. The titular character starts out fat, single, and past the age of 30, so basically our worst nightmare. By the end, though, she manages to bang Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, land a better job, and become a self-described wanton sex goddess. If those arent your life goals, you clearly need to start your own self-help journey.
