Gamecock Football Memories: Clemson 2009
On November twenty eighth, two thousand and nine, the unranked seven and four South Carolina Gamecocks welcomed the eighteenth ranked eight and three Clemson Tigers to Williams Brice Stadium for their annual meeting in the "Battle for the Palmetto State." Carolina had lost the previous two meetings, but hopes were high as Carolina had looked like an improved football team in this year from the year before, even if the records were the same. Clemson had won their division and was set to play in the ACC Championship the following week. Clemson boasted their All American do it all running back CJ Spiller, who everyone knew the Gamecocks had to contain if they wanted to win this ball game. I remember it like it was yesterday, a noon time ESPN game but I was present in the crowd as a six year old for my first Carolina versus Clemson football game at Williams Brice, I was in the first grade! The Gamecocks started slow per usual as we watched CJ Spiller return the opening kickoff one hundred yards to the house for a touchdown, but Carolina settled in. Coach Spurrier threw a wrench in the game plan by allowing cornerback Stephon Gilmore to run some plays as a "wildcat" quarterback, even throwing a deep pass to star freshman wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey. Carolina's defense settled in and held the Tigers in check, forcing a fumble, causing an interception, and holding the Tigers to only ten points after the early Spiller touchdown. Carolina's offense had one of their best outings of the season as true freshman running back Kenny Miles rushed for one hundred and fourteen yards on the ground and Brian Maddox ran one in. Also, Carolina's young quarterback Stephen Garcia had a brilliant day tossing three touchdowns to only one interception. Tori Gurley, Wesley Saunders, and Patrick Dimarco each caught touchdowns from Garcia. Once, the Gamecocks got down on the opening play, they went to work and never looked back. This game would spark a four year stretch of the best football success in Carolina history and five straight victories over Clemson. Oh, did I mention it was my first Carolina versus Clemson game that I saw in person?! It was a great day to be a Gamecock.

Gamecock Football Memories: 2009
It was Thursday September twenty fourth, two thousand and nine. I was six years old and I remember watching it at my grandparents' house because my father and grandmother went to the game; however, my grandfather, my mother, and myself stayed back because we had work or school the next day. The fourth ranked two and zero Ole Miss Rebels came to town poised for a big season led by head coach Houston Nutt, quarterback Jevan Sneed, and do it all running back Dexter McCluster. This was a primetime matchup on ESPN and a seven thirty pm kickoff time, so it was safe to say the juices were flowing in Williams Brice Stadium! The Gamecocks were two and one at this point, with their only loss being to an excellent Georgia team. So, Carolina had reasons to be confident. As the game kicked off, it was a classic SEC defensive slugfest. The teams traded field goals as the defenses dominated for each team. Carolina's star linebacker Eric Norwood played the best when the lights were brightest and that night was no different. Norwood had two sacks, breaking the school record when he recorded his twenty seventh sack of his career. His name still is enshrined on the turn style at Williams Brice Stadium as he still holds that record. Carolina's defense pestered Javan Sneed all night by sacking him multiple times and held Dexter McCluster to only eighty five yards on the ground. The rebels would only score ten points all night. Offensively for Carolina, quarterback Stephen Garcia found Pat Dimarco for a two yard touchdown pass to go up sixteen to three in the third quarter. Ole Miss finally found the end zone on a Sneed pass to Markeith Summers, but the Gamecocks defense would not go away. Cliff Matthews sacked Sneed twice, Darian Stewart stoned Dexter McCluster for a loss of yardage, and Chris Culliver broke up a Jevan Sneed pass on the final drive to seal the game for a Carolina win of sixteen to ten. Even quarterback Stephen Garcia said it himself, "it was an ugly win... but we'll take it every time" (ESPN). This game was made famous because on the final drive, the stadium DJ played the song "Sandstorm" over the speakers and the crowd went bonkers. This would later become the song that Carolina is so famous for playing and waving white towels as it plays. I remember my father and grandmother saying that was one of, if not the most fun game they had ever been to. I wish I got to see it in person, but I enjoyed watching part of it with my grandfather before I had to go to sleep for school the next day.

Nick Saban of Alabama boasts an outstanding win percentage (.878) over 17 seasons as head coach at his school and hopes to return to the College Football Playoff for a third consecutive year, but will need his team to navigate a challenging conference slate first.
Ole Miss is Georgia's other key non-conference test in terms of non-conference matchups, and this matchup should provide an indicator of its effectiveness as Kirby Smart steps into Lane Kiffin's shoes as Georgia coach. Furthermore, it will serve as an effective barometer of progress made on defense over the past year after giving up more points than any SEC opponent last season.
Texas-Kansas
Last season, the Kansas Jayhawks were one of college football's pleasant surprises. Led by quarterback Jalon Daniels and an excellent defense, their program made strides in the second half to finish at 6-7. 2023 is looking promising as they return to Big 12 play with a strong schedule that includes home matches against Texas and Iowa State.
The Longhorns' final season in the Big 12 conference has been scheduled, featuring six home games, five road games and their annual match-up against Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl. Texas will play Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech at home while also traveling to Kansas and Kansas State away. BYU and Houston join UT as new Big 12 members completing UT's schedule for 2016.
2016 college football standings will open their season by hosting Rice on Sept. 2 before traveling to Alabama and Tuscaloosa on Sept. 9 before wrapping up non-conference play in Austin against Wyoming on Sept. 11.
Ohio State-Penn State
With college football season being less than 100 days away, fans are finally taking one step closer to seeing when and how to watch their teams. Major television networks on Wednesday will unveil their schedule selections, giving fans a look into what awaits for 2023 season.
The Big Ten released its conference schedule Wednesday, and Penn State-Penn State earned top billing as the event of the week. Greg McElroy believes Penn State has an edge this year thanks to having quarterback Drew Allar back.
Iowa can make things interesting, though, thanks to running back Nicholas Singleton returning from injury and an exciting offensive team led by newcomer Cade McNamara. Iowa could pose a formidable test for Ohio State's defense at Kinnick Stadium and this game may take on an unpredictable tone as fans anticipate a wild encounter between rival teams.
Ohio State should be able to regain momentum against Indiana at home and win convincingly - their offense ranked among the worst nationally last season! That game should make for exciting viewing as Indiana has one of the worst offensive units.
Notre Dame-Wake Forest
If you're on the hunt for college football tickets 2023, this matchup between Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Notre Dame Fighting Irish should not be missed. Both teams possess amazing talent that make this contest exciting to watch.
Last time these teams faced each other it was an exciting contest; Notre Dame managed to overcome early struggles and come away victorious by a final score of 90-74. Notre Dame experienced shooting difficulties of their own; hitting only 38% from the field and 19% from 3-point range while losing three key players due to injuries.
While Notre Dame may have lost their playoff hopes with that loss, they still have an opportunity to make a strong run in 2019. Their next matchups include home matches against Boston College and a trip to Syracuse's Carrier Dome where their Deacons have never managed to take a win there - they must start strong if they hope for any chance at an upset victory there.
Wake Forest's defense has been one of the nation's strongest this season. They've held opponents to less than one point per game while their pass rushers have been phenomenal. Wake Forest's secondary has also performed admirably with Duke Ejiofor and Cormac Ryan providing outstanding coverage respectively.
