About NDA Examination

NDA(National Defence Academy) is an National level Defence examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) each year twice. Candidates who are preparing for Defence Services in Army, Navy and Air Force can take part in the test. It's a two-step process to pass the test.

What is CSAT for IAS?

Along with the GS paper, a qualifying paper for the civil service Prelims stage is the Civil Service Aptitude Test, or CSAT. The CSAT has a fixed cut-off, which is different from the GS paper. As long as you get the cut-off mark, your CSAT scores won't count toward your final score. A candidate must earn 33% of the 200 total marks to pass the CSAT. Therefore, the CSAT paper's qualifying mark is 66 points. In contrast to the GS exam, which has 100 questions, the CSAT exam has 80 questions and a two-hour time limit. The total number of marks awarded for each question is 200. Similar to the GS paper, an incorrect response receives a negative marking equal to one-third of the total marks for the question. If the questions are not attempted, there will be no negative marking. The CSAT paper, by and large, tests an aspirant\'s overall mental capacity, independent direction and relational capacity, quantitative fitness, intelligent thinking and scientific abilities, essential numeracy, information translation, and understanding appreciation.

The CSAT syllabus is clearer and more precise than the Prelims GS syllabus, so if an aspirant puts in enough time, success is guaranteed. However, there have been instances in which applicants have passed the GS exam but not the CSAT exam due to time constraints.

What is the Exam Pattern?

The National Defence Academy (NDA) Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. It is the gateway to enter the Indian Defence Forces i.e. Army, Navy and Air Force. The NDA exam pattern comprises of two written papers followed by an interview.

CDS Exam Eligibility:

1. Age for 2022:

(i) For IMA - Only unmarried students born before 2nd July 1997 and before 1st July 2002 are eligible.

(ii) For Indian Naval Academy – Only unmarried male candidates born on or after 2 July 1997 before 1 July 2002 are eligible.

(iii) For Air Force Academy – Between 20 and 24 years of age on 1 July 2021, i.e. H. born on or after 2 July 1997 but before 1 July 2001 (DGCA (India)) Beginning in 1995, the age limit for candidates with a valid and current commercial pilot license issued by the United States may be reduced to 26 years old (i.e. born before July 2nd).

Note:

Applicants must be under 25 years of age and unmarried. Marriage during training is not permitted. Married applicants over the age of 25 are eligible to apply, but spouses will not be provided with accommodation and family members will not be permitted to live off-site for the duration of the course.

(iv) Only unmarried male candidates born before 2nd July 1996 and before 1st July 2002 are eligible for admission to the SSC Men's Course.

(v) Officer Training Academy – (SSC Women's Non-Technical Course) For single women, widows not remarried, divorcees not remarried, divorcees not remarried. Those born between July 2, 1996 and July 1, 2002.

2. Qualifications:

(i) I.M.A. Officer Training Academy, Chennai – Accredited University or equivalent degree.

(ii) Indian Naval Academy – Technician graduate from an accredited college/institution.

(iii) For Air Force Academy – accredited college degree (Physics and Mathematics Level 10+2) or Bachelor of Engineering. Students who are in their final semester and have not passed the final exam can also apply. You must prove that you have passed the Diploma exam.
