Barricades: A Les Mis Convention is pleased to announce Guest of Honor David Montgomery!

David Montgomery is a journalist and the host of The Siècle history podcast, about France’s overlooked century in between Napoleon and the First World War. After years listening to history podcasts, he decided to make one of his own during a brief stint of unemployment, and now finds himself drowning in books about France in the 1820s and 1830s, and loving every minute of it. He comes to Les Misérables through a somewhat backwards path: first researching the time period, then reading the book, and only then watching the musical.

Montgomery’s meticulously researched deep dives into canon-era history have already covered many topics of interest to fans of Les Misérables, including the Charbonnerie conspiracies, Ultraroyalism, the death of Napoleon (and the survival of Bonapartism), the later life of the Marquis de Lafayette, and the rise of the newspaper as a political and social force. We’re very excited for his participation in the convention! 

The topic of Montgomery’s GoH presentation, along with other details about our schedule and program, will be announced here closer to the convention date.
