kanji. is. fucking. adorable. like, there is genuinely not a bad VA performance in this game but kanji is just giving me everything. he's bashful and cute and swings into being a punk who wants to fight then right back on a dime, his big intro scene with the investigation team (not as catchy as SEES, that one) is like the game showing off his character like "LOOK! SEE?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah Chie, to a guy, you are picking up what we're talking about, right? oh shit i forgot that chie only learned gayness existed in the first month of the game, she's probably still percolating. she'll get there. i look forward to Chie chasing Yukiko to the train station when Yukiko finally flees town and professes her love as the music swells.
Tumblr media
squints at yosuke
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've only had Kanji in my party for ten minutes but if anything happened to him, I'd kill everyone in this room and then myself, etc etc, he even stops to go "MAN what is with me, i never talk this much" its so patently obviously he's a passionate but lonely guy and I'm going to take him under my wing. i though Yosuke was going to be my new Junpei but it's Kanji. I will guide and protect him. He is dear to me.
and not JUST because he's troy baker okay, he's also just really great. finally we have a party member i would put toe-to-toe with a member of SEES in the battle for my heart.
Tumblr media
yukiko it's the food court yukiko. Costco cannot be a secret headquarters. i don't care how cheap the rotisserie chickens are.
(I like yukiko a lot actually, she's in the top of the leaderboard)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he fucking chases them off just like that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you ever just grin so hard your face kinda hurts? yep
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WOW LIKE
AS SOON AS THEY SAID IT IT SUDDENLY MADE SO MUCH SENSE
like obviously the characters who show up on the news before the next Midnight Channel show are the ones who get taken, but my brain was stuck in "out of universe story structure" mode, in which the game just wants to MAKE SURE i know the character before they're taken
but IN UNIVERSE it also makes sense
however: it still doesn't explain why they show up on the Midnight Channel and then get taken. at the moment, I am... not suspicious of Teddie, but of other entities similar to Teddie. someone created in the TV World who is tied to it who somehow got into the real world and is throwing people back into it for Reasons, perhaps to build the shadow population.
basically: i really need an explanation of the what/why of that initial Channel showing that predicates the person being thrown into the TV.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
beloved!!!!!! also i love and appreciate people who ask. excellent.
Tumblr media
THEY JUST
COME OUT AND SAY IT
Sorry I didn't screencap the first bit, but Kanji is like "Oh, Yukiko-senpai, you were saved from the TV too?" AND THEN THIS
Tumblr media
HE'S.... JUST QUEER. HE'S A QUEER KID. HE'S USING THE LANGUAGE AND IS P OPEN ABOUT IT.
.... i just felt a tingle of Fear in my spine. /squints at Atlus this time
Tumblr media
anyway his TV glasses are shades and i love him more than everyone, good night

Make Every Moment Last - Chapter 10 Preview
Mommy and Daddy Issues
The squad of second years had met up at the front gate with Yukari, who had to leave early for archery practice. Exam results were going to be posted today, and after a little urging from Kotone, they had all agreed to check out their results together.
“Mornin’,” Yukari said in greeting as she met with the group at the gate. “Punctual as always, Arisato-kun.”
“I try,” Minato said with a shrug. Unfortunately, while he was in a good mood for once, someone else had to take on his usual apathy.
Yukari took a glance back at Junpei, who was lagging behind. “You look like the world just ended.” Junpei only responded with a loud, dejected groan.
“Exam scores are being posted today,” Kotone explained, translating just what that groan had meant.
“...that explains it.” With how much he had avoided studying, there was a reason to be worried.
Junpei groaned again. “If the worst comes to worst, I’m gonna beg for a higher score.”
“I doubt that’s going to work,” said Minato bluntly. To be honest, Kotone was kind of with him on that one.
“Try to think of something else, Junpei,” Ryoji suggested. “Like… oh! How Akihiko-senpai was talking about Yamagishi.” While that did serve to cheer Junpei up a little, it was most likely a false hope.
“Ryoji, I’ve said it before,” said Kotone with a sigh. “I’m pretty sure Yamagishi is human.” Either that, or she was really good at hiding her true self.
“Pretty sure isn’t sure at all.” Well… yeah, but... “I like to think that she is one of us.”
“Let me guess, your intuition tells you that?” asked Minato. Ryoji only snickered as the group entered the school’s main building.
“You could say that. I’ll tell you more later.” ...part of Kotone wondered if there was something going on between them that she was missing the context of.
When they entered the building, the group heard the call of one of the other students shouting that the exam results had been posted.
“Moment of truth…” Junpei muttered. The second years quickly found the bulletin board where the results were being displayed. Kotone and Ryoji had placed right around the average, with Yukari just being a bit above them. Unfortunately, Junpei… He groaned loudly. “You've gotta be kidding me!”
He was more towards the bottom than expected.
Kotone patted his shoulder. “I’ll help you study for the next exams.”
“That’s gonna be hard to do when he has a one-track mind,” said Yukari. Even if that were true, Kotone didn’t mind.
“What about you, Arisato? How’d you do?” Ryoji asked, turning to the boy in question. Minato simply gestured over to where his name was. Considering his grades in the past, it wasn’t much of a surprise to Kotone that he managed to score among the top ten in the class.
“Way to go, Minato!” said Kotone.
“How is that even possible?!” exclaimed Junpei, eyes fixated upon Minato’s name. “You sleep in class!”
“I’m a knowledge sponge, even when asleep,” Minato explained away, even though that didn’t really explain anything at all.
Junpei groaned. “Seriously?”
“Just think about Yamagishi and you’ll feel better,” Ryoji told him.
“Yeah…” Junpei sighed, pulling down the brim of his cap. “I won’t let it get to me! We might be gettin’ another girl on our team!”
Yukari huffed, crossing her arms. “Like I said. A one-track mind.”
The full chapter will be up on Ao3 on December 1!

@999week
7. Seven (Who I’ve named Seigi Oyama*)
The large man boomed with laughter over the speakerphone that rested on the coffee table between the Field siblings and Junpei. The triad winced at the clap of sound but smiled all the same. It had been too long since they’d touched base with Seven and with Junpei finishing up his first real forensic class...
“Of COURSE I can show ya ‘round kid! It’ll be my pleasure! Heck, bring Light and Clover and we’ll make it a Field Trip!”
Junpei guffawed in a way that was as amusing as it was unflattering. Light pretended to be offended as he leveled a look in the direction of his cackling lover.
“Ya like that one Junpei? I got a load of em!”
“A load? Still can’t get laid Oyama?” Clover sniggered close enough to the speaker to send her dirty laughter over to Japan.
“HEY-! YOU SHIT.”
Light crossed his arms and shook his head before letting his features soften at the good-natured bickering between his now-old friends.
He leaned back on one palm as he listened.
It had been three years since the newest Nonary Game, and two years that him and Junpei were a couple. The concept still made his cheeks warm with a blush that Junpei and his sister would tease him about but it would be a small enough price for eternity.
He couldn’t say for sure when he’d started contemplating marriage, it could have been any number of things, tiny dominos that stacked up against one another until they reached the obvious conclusion.
Or it could be nothing. Well, not nothing. A hundred thousand little things then, must be.
The blind man heard Junpei sliding around the table before he felt his boyfriend lean his head on his shoulder.
Three years ago this coming summer was the first time Junpei had done this, this resting against Light’s shoulder. At the time it had been in a crowded vehicle behind two heavily perfumed women and practically on top of his kidnapper and long-time nightmare catalyst, but it had shocked him.
Soft, thick hair - sweaty at the roots but Light was gay and allowances had to be made for this fact - plopped onto the seam that had slowly been giving the taller man heat rash from his woolen robes. Due to having just tugged on the collar for the millionth time, his collarbone was exposed and when the exhausted number ‘5’ player’s cheek came to settle in his sleep. (the mirror image to his ‘2’ the gay little voice in his head supplied). The elder field was hit with the urge to pet Junpei’s hair as they sat and sweated, but he couldn’t maneuver his arm enough to do so. He wanted to though.
Instead he set about mapping this moment as best he was able without the use of his hands and, of course, his eyes.
The other man’s breathing was the first thing Light fixed his superhuman senses to. They were light, cautious breaths like he wasn’t sure when he would get the chance to rest next, and a harsh enough bump in the road would have him shooting into wakefulness. Light’s treacherous heart wanted to hold the other man close and cushion his fall, to give their exhausted statistician a safe space to rest. He wanted to make sure he stayed as safe as the other man had kept Clover, returning his baby sister to him whole and making sure no man or woman was left behind in that godforsaken building. When they reached civilization Clover pulled out a wallet none of them had seen her grab.
“It was on the captain - M-musashidou. Picked it up along with his bracelet.”
Light had merely rubbed at the bridge of his nose and exhaled. He had a lot of catching up to do. But first he wanted to make sure that 1) Clover was safe and had somewhere to sleep and 2) Junpei wasn’t going out of his radius of senses any time soon.
He still wanted to touch that hair.
-
“BAHAHAHAHA! Yeah! The girls’d love that Yotsuba!” The boys quickly tuned back in.
“Girls?”
“Oyama, you getting girls over there, dude?”
Seven made a series of interesting noises as he tried to articulate his meaning without giving Clover more ammunition.
“I meant Nona, Ennea, and Hazuki-“
Clover squeaked as Junpei shot upright so fast it was only experience that got Light’s jaw out of the way in time.
“Nona and Ennea?”
“YOU CALL HER HAZUKI?!” Junpei sprung at the phone as he slammed back into Japanese so fast Light worried he had hurt himself. “DISH.”
Well.
Seven - Oyama Seigi as they later discovered - had begun seeing Hazuki Kashiwabara - Lotus - after uncovering that he had saved her twin daughters in the same heroic effort that got Light, Aoi Kurashiki, and Akane Kurashiki off that damn boat nine...ten... eleven... twelve years ago. They all owed Seigi their lives, and it was good to see the big lug making a place for himself.
“Yeah just come on down to the precinct and I’ll show ya’ around!”
After a few more jokes and friendly jibes about logistics the happy four hung up their call and leaned back.
Seigi pushed himself back from his desk and scratched at his stubble. He’d have to shave before dinner with the Kashiwabara women tonight.
Brown eyes scanned his computer screen one final time before saving and signing off.
So, Tenmyoji Junpei was gonna become an investigator. Good for him.
* Seigi can translate to ‘Justice’ as he was an investigator who stuck to his moral code even when it got him in trouble/danger.  Oyama/Ooyama means ‘Mountain’ as a nod to Junpei’s original nickname for him. :3

999: Alterna (2) - Part 9, Chapters 7-9
Table of Contents | Previous: Part 9, Chapters 4-6
Chapter 7
I finally understood why, nine years in the future, my brother kidnapped Jumpy and the others and recreated this terrifying game.
It was all for the sake of saving me.
Watching me in the present, my brother realized that my consciousness and Jumpy’s from nine years in the future were connected through the field.
However, in order for this miracle to be possible, multiple conditions had to be met.
First, Jumpy had to be infected with the Angel Fever virus, and eventually reach Stage 3. I guess my brother was somehow able to transmit the virus into Jumpy’s body. The incubation period of the virus was five to ten years, so at least that much time was needed for the plan to work.
Next, Jumpy had to be placed in the exact same situation I currently found myself in. For that, my brother had no choice but to prepare this large stage and kidnap Snake, the detective, and the rest. Lotus must have been chosen to take the place of her late daughter.
Furthermore, there was one more condition. Unless my emotions reached a fever pitch, I wouldn’t be able to connect with Jumpy through the field. That was largely out of my brother’s control.
But still, right now, I was connected with Jumpy. That meant...
Even the darkest corners of my heart were lit up with passion. Flickering between this world and the next, my heart fluttered with joy.
I want to live!
That was my desire.
I wanted to live so that I could see Jumpy one more time.
>>>
At last, I succeeded in reconfiguring my Rubik’s Cube to match Akane’s.
[121]... [120]...
Two minutes left.
I stopped twisting the cube and took a deep breath.
Please, reach Kanny!
I focused on the cube in my hands and began unscrambling it.
<<<
All of Jumpy’s thoughts were conveyed to me. My hands started moving on their own volition. As I watched on, the faces of the cube were getting unscrambled. Almost like magic.
And finally...
“Yes! Done!” I had solved the puzzle with 60 seconds to spare.
“Kanny, how’d it go? Did you unscramble the cube?”
“Yeah, I fully solved it! Or rather, you were the one who did it for me. All I did was copy your moves... Now I just have to scan my bracelet on the <RED>.”
“Then go!”
“Yes!” I left the altar and leapt at the numbered door. “Please open, please open, please open...”
Praying, I touched the <RED> and pulled the lever. It slid all the way down.
The door slowly opened, emitting a harsh metallic sound that now brought me a strange sense of comfort.
I didn’t know when they had come down from the ceiling, but my brother, Light, Nona, and the detective were there to greet me on the other side of the door.
>>>
Only 60 seconds remained.
The warning siren blared, and all the lights in the room began to flicker chaotically.
“What are you waiting for? Get moving,” Lotus said, sitting before the altar. “With that puzzle out of the way, you guys can open the [9] door with the [6] bracelet.”
“But...” Seven had a look of pity in his eyes.
“Hurry! Or are you going to let everything go to waste?”
“Lotus, it’s okay! We can escape with you too!” I grabbed her arm and pulled her over to the numbered door.
“Hey... What are you doing?”
“Trust me, I know,” I said, as I brought Lotus’s wrist over to the scanner.
“What do you know?”
“This door won’t be opened by a digital root of [9]. Remember how Hongou couldn’t open it with the [2] and [6] bracelets?”
“Ain’t that just because he didn’t solve the puzzle first?” Seven asked as he placed his left wrist on the <RED>.
“No, I don’t believe so,” Snake said as he scanned the [6] bracelet in his right hand. “It’s programmed so that after either one of the two doors is opened, the lock connected to the Rubik’s Cube activates. That’s how Hongou explained it nine years ago.”
“Then why didn’t it open?”
“The settings were reprogrammed this time. After all, Santa has no reason to kill us.”
Why did Santa take Clover with him when he left this room? I found that decision odd. Santa had the [3] and [6] bracelets in his possession. He could have easily used them to open the numbered door, and yet, he didn’t. He left the [6] bracelet in the room, because he knew we’d need it later.
I thought back to Zero’s words.
“The exit is hidden somewhere on this ship. Seek a door. Seek a door that carries a [9].”
It wasn’t a [9].
I looked back at the character written on the door.
It was a [q]..[11]
I turned around and checked the countdown.
[10]... [9]... [8]...
I brought my left wrist to the scanner and slammed the lever down with all my might. The door opened with a clang. The <DEAD> was set up right behind it.
We rushed out of the chapel and scanned our bracelets on the <DEAD>, but it was still too early to relax.
“This way, hurry!” Seven led us up the spiral staircase.
The time limit should have already passed, but for some reason, nothing exploded.
[11] (TN: The letter “q” and the number “9” in Japanese are both pronounced “kyuu,” so Zero’s announcement is more ambiguous when heard in Japanese.)
Chapter 8
The <DEAD> was right outside the door. I rushed to press my bracelet against it.
“Everyone, hurry—”
I turned around to yell, but immediately noticed that their eyes were still glued to the other side of the door.
“Akane? Where are you, Akane?!” Aoi wailed, staring into the chapel.
“Back away! Door’s closin’!”
Restrained by the detective, Aoi desperately struggled to get back into the room.
“Akane... Why...” Aoi wept as the door shut.
“What are you saying? Aoi, I’m right here,” I shouted out, but my voice couldn’t seem to reach him. “Why...?”
“Hey, there’s a skull on your bracelets,” the detective pointed out.
“Crap! Light, Nona, let’s move!”
The three of them sprinted to the <DEAD> and scanned their bracelets.
“What happened? The door opened, but Akane wasn’t in there!”
“It’s my fault...” Nona started sobbing. “It’s my fault she’s...”
“Don’t cry! I’m right here, I’m still alive!”
As if he sensed my presence, Light turned in my direction. “...Akane?”
“Yes! Can’t you see, I’m right here!”
And yet, my voice still couldn’t reach them. Light tilted his head for a moment, before turning his back to me once more.
At the sound of an explosion, the floor violently shook. Black smoke drifted through the gaps around the door.
“Let’s go. The ship won’t stay afloat for much longer.”
Everyone started to make their way up the staircase. I frantically chased after them.
My entire body felt hot, almost feverish. But that heat was all I felt. The exhaustion and pain that once afflicted me had disappeared. Even though I was running for dear life, I had no trouble breathing—as if this body wasn’t mine. It felt like I was watching myself in a dream. That strange feeling clouded my head.
I looked down, having realized that something was wrong. Much to my surprise, my legs had largely faded from view, so the floor was clearly visible through my feet.
“What’s going on...?”
The confusion inside of me peaked. I was on the edge of losing my mind.
—“Don’t go spouting that crap about fate. We can change the future with our own hands, however much we want.”
Jumpy’s words from the future suddenly replayed in my mind.
“Wait... Don’t tell me...”
I stopped in my tracks and looked up.
Schrödinger's Cat. As long as the box remained closed, whether the cat is alive or dead would stay an unresolvable mystery. That paradox represented the overlapping states of life and death. Perhaps my existence had yet to be confirmed.
The future wasn’t set in stone. The timeline where Jumpy never got infected with Angel Fever, the timeline where he didn’t participate in the Nonary Game, the timeline where he gave up on escaping halfway through... All of those futures surely existed. He wouldn’t necessarily be able to save me in nine years. Until that moment actually occurred, nobody could determine my fate.
That was why right now, I was neither alive nor dead—like a ghost. Most likely, that would remain true until the day Jumpy saved me in nine years.
“Hey!”
The detective’s voice from overhead snapped me out of my trance. I looked up to see Nona climbing over the handrail, motioning to jump off.
I looked down. The seawater that had penetrated the ship from the explosion was swirling into a vicious vortex. Nona couldn’t swim. If she fell, she’d be met with certain death.
“Stop! Stay calm!”
“It’s my fault... It’s my fault... I’m so sorry, Akane...”
As Nona sniffled, she jumped off the handrail and into the air. The detective reached out to grab her but didn’t make it in time. Just like that, she was sucked into the raging whirlpool below.
“Nona!” I screamed out her name while clinging to the handrail.
>>>
We rushed up the spiral staircase with only one goal in mind. My legs flew, my arms swung wildly, and my eyes stuck solely to the path in front of me.
As I ran, Seven’s voice reached my ears.
“Hey Junpei, mind if I ask you somethin’?”
“What’s up?”
“That [9] door from earlier. Why’d it open?”
“That’s right,” Lotus added. “We used four bracelets to activate the <RED>. [5], [6], [7], and [8] make 26, so the digital root should’ve been [8].”
“It wasn’t the number [9] that was scribbled on the door. It was the letter [q].”
“The letter [q]?”
“Computer programming uses hexadecimal sometimes, right?”
Under the hexadecimal system, after the number [9] came [a]. Then came [b], [c], [d], and so on. In base-10, [a] would represent [10], [b] would be [11], and [c] would be [12].
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Instead of the base-16 hexadecimal system, think about it in terms of base-30.”
“Base-30?”
“After [16], or [f], continue using letters instead of adding a digit. For example, [h] would be [17], [i] would be [18], and so on. Continuing that pattern, [q] would be—”
“[26]!” Seven yelled, counting with his large fingers.
“Exactly.”
“Look, up ahead!” Lotus shouted, pointing forward.
Waiting at the top of the staircase was a single door. Blinding rays of sunlight poured in through the frame.
“The exit!”
I picked up the pace.
Chapter 9
I spent what felt like an eternity straddling the line between life and death.
My memories of everything after the events of that day remained hazy, most likely a result of my Schrödinger's Cat-like existence.
Time marched on, and as the fateful day approached, my existence became more and more defined. I’d never forget the look of shock and joy on my brother’s face the day he saw me in the bathroom.
However, my ghostlike presence didn’t change. Minor events would affect our future on the fated day—each time that happened, I would contract a high fever and my existence would go back to being hazy.
“I’ll save you, no matter what it takes.”
But I had no idea of the dreadful plot my brother was concocting for that day...
>>>
We stumbled through the door leading outside and were greeted with intense sunlight that pierced our eyes. I squinted and shaded my face with my hand.
Colors began to paint the scene before me. The blurred view slowly but surely took shape.
“This is...”
“What? No way...”
“How?”
We found ourselves on the rooftop of a decrepit building. A nostalgic scene stretched out, and far into the distance, I could make out the recently completed Tokyo Skytree.
“Hmm... I don’t hear any waves, and I don’t smell any saltwater either... That means we’re—”
“Yeah, this is that experimental facility in the city.” Santa walked out from the shadow of the water tower. “I didn’t have the cash to buy and renovate an entire ship, so I borrowed this abandoned building.”
Clover appeared beside Santa.
“Brother!” Upon seeing Snake, Clover rushed over to where we were, about to burst into tears. “I’m so glad you’re alive...”
She flew into Snake’s chest and began to sob. Snake smiled and affectionately tussled her hair.
Santa’s eyes, focused on the siblings’ reunion, appeared to be tinged with loneliness.
“Sorry for dragging you guys into this,” Santa said. “Don’t worry about the bombs. There weren’t any inside you to begin with.”
He took out a device resembling a remote control from his pocket. The moment he pointed it at us, our bracelets detached from our wrists and fell to our feet.
“See ya.” Santa gave a small wave with his right hand turned his back to us, and stepped back into the building.
“Where are you going?”
“Junpei, I leave the rest to you,” Santa replied, ignoring my question. He slowly descended the spiral staircase.
“Hey, Santa—” I head towards the door, hoping to follow after him.
But then, someone else appeared in his place. A girl of about high school age. Although I had never met her, I immediately recognized who she was, since she closely resembled the young girl from nine years ago whom I saw through the field.
“...Nona?” Lotus’s voice was close to a whisper. “Are you... Nona?”
“Mom... You can see me?” The girl seemed surprised as well.
“How...?” Seven appeared to be at a loss. “You died nine years ago falling off that spiral staircase—”
“I saved her back then.” Another person appeared through the door frame. “But since my existence was still hazy, saving her caused her existence to become hazy too.”
Akane smiled happily at the heartfelt embrace between mother and daughter.
“But everything’s okay now. Schrödinger's Cat lives. The box has been opened, and now, everything has become reality.”
“Kanny...”
I inched over to her.
There was something I wanted to tell her once we escaped. But my chest felt tight, and the words stuck in my throat.
Illuminated by the sun, Akane’s blushing face slowly turned to face mine.
Seeing my eyes dart back and forth, she gently moved her lips.
“I’m back, Jumpy.”
Our two elongated shadows intertwined.
The faint scent of sweet olives lingered in the air.

List 102: Top Ten Favorite Kuroko No Basuke Characters
Tumblr seems to be the better place to make lists about things that are quicker and not as writing intensive for me. I think it will be my breeding ground for small lists about specific topics now. Hope you enjoy and if you have a list you want me to do about a certain topic or series tell me somewhere on the interwebs!
Today we cover my favorites of Kuroko no Basuke!
10. Shoichi Imayoshi
Tumblr media
I love characters who pay attention to details. It will be a common thread of the people on here. Imayoshi is a man who is a viper. He coils around his opponents and is always trying to talk his way into their minds. It’s all part of his gameplan. Makes him sound like a douche but off the court he is actually a decent guy, he just loves to be a clever bastard. And the moment you can tell someone who acts so strongly all the time cries even when he loses shows he does it all because he loves the game.
9. Rinnosuke Mitobe
Tumblr media
A silent but sweet man who is always in the background. He is the man of the house a lot of the time and does a lot of the work. That is who Mitobe is. All work and no play and misunderstood because he doesn’t talk. I love silent characters who are given depth by those around him like Koga and his family. They show how much character he really does have despite not needing words to display who he is at heart.
8. Riko Aida
Tumblr media
One of the most involved coaches I’ve seen in a sports series. She is a fellow classmate to all her team, and treats them all like friends. She is always using her intelligence to make the best plan to strengthen her team, self, and all those around her. Observational skills to the max are at her core with how she makes the team a real powerhouse. Also she is so dedicated to caring on and off that court I can’t help but be enamored.
7. Junpei Hyuga
Tumblr media
The team captain should always pull his weight and spread the encouraging vibes no matter the situation. Usually when Hyuga is going well the whole team is. Sometimes he even falters but with the coach at his side he can always find his place again. It’s this dual layer of support that him and Riko give the team and each other that makes Seirin click the way they do. Also Hyuga is a sharp tongued guy and it cracks me up how he isn’t good at speeches but gets his point across regardless.
6. Yukio Kasamatsu
Tumblr media
Here is a captain I truly admire. His team is often in a tough situation without the star power. Most of them are just hardworkers outside of Kise. His work ethic and determination are boundless though. I love Kasamatsu for being the very image of what a captain is. No matter the odds or circumstances he stays steadfast and ready to take it on with his team he believes in. He may come off a bit serious but it is all part of what makes him who he is, a leader.
5. Kazunari Tako
Tumblr media
Smartass characters are always some of the easiest to enjoy. They lightly tease those around them to keep the mood from getting too serious, while simultaneously working hard to keep the morale high. Kazunari is just a fun person. He loves basketball, and is a polar opposite to his teammate Midorima. Yet, they work in coalition so well because Kazunari is smart at knowing how to treat his fellow players with respect. What he seems to lack in serious drive he is using to his advantage to make the best play possible.
4. Ryota Kise
Tumblr media
Kise is easily one of the members of the show that goes through the most growth. His desire to improve in all areas of the game because he isn’t the best at anything but copying is admirable. He even goes so far as pushing his body far past it’s limits for his team. He wants to win for them so badly because he knows how hard they all work to achieve that goal. He is also just a really friendly guy with the best nicknames by far. You can see his shift in attitude and growth as the series goes on very clearly and it makes him go from cocky model to valued ace.
3. Teppei Kiyoshi
Tumblr media
I had to use the same gif haha. Teppei is one of my favorites for a lot of reasons. Characters who are the heart of a team though, are easy to love. Teppei puts his all into making basketball fun and satisfying for everyone who plays it. This even includes his opponents. Despite him wanting to take it seriously he also values the fun factor of the game above all else. He is like the big brother character on the team and it really shows. The only person who strives to show how fun basketball can be even more is.....
2. Tetsuya Kuroko
Tumblr media
The phantom man Kuroko! The whole series is because of this little guy. The one who is working harder than anyone else in the shadows. No one takes much notice of Kuroko and how much he puts in, but those who do are very clearly impressed. Kuroko had a hard time with his group of teammates in the past. They all grew to a skill level to where winning was all they valued anymore. The love of the game was gone. And for most sports fanatics the love of the game is the greatest reason to play. Kuroko’s journey was all about showing his teammates why someone who had to work so hard to even be on the same court could be just as valuable or even the most valuable player(MVP!) on the entire team. This is what Kuroko brings. Where he lacks in physical prowess he makes up for with strategy and amazing observational skills. Sports series need a character who pulls it along, but when the person is doing it with a very personal and meaningful reason outside of being the best, it really is something worth being impressed by. Kuroko is the character who beats modern sports character conventions because he plays for his friends and the love of the game before all else.
1. Aomine Daiki
Tumblr media
Yet, Aomine is still my favorite of the whole bunch. He is the player who is the most talented ball player by far. And it brings him to a level where he can single handedly best other teams. He is a monster on the court and because the challenge was taken out of basketball for him he slowly changed from someone who loved basketball more than anyone, to a cynical player who found it to be almost tiresome. This is why I love Aomine, his arc comes full circle. I love players who are more passionate about the game then anything and that is what he was. Until he lost it. And with Kagami/Kuroko’s help he is finally brought to play at his very best for the first time in a very long time. He had fun again. He felt what he was longing for. He finally got to feel the challenge and in turn Aomine returns to form and is able to slowly find his love again, his absolute love for basketball. He then becomes basically the best supporting character off of Seiren as a commentator who understands the game and brings worthwhile monologuing with it. Aomine is my favorite of Kuroko’s cast because he is the brightest light in the game but something made him lose his shine. It took a shadow to bring his shimmer back, and when he finally shone again it was a sight to behold.

Unforeseen Circumstances // Chapter 07
Unrequited love is the most painful thing to feel, and yet, Fuuka is persuaded to try her hands at getting Junpei’s attention, no matter what. However, after multiple failed attempts, what will she do when she catches the eye of the boy with the maroon peacoat? The heartache that comes with falling in love might even be more than she bargained for.
September 14th
After a long couple hours of watching food being cooked by Shinjiro, and enjoying the delicious food he made, Fuuka, and the others, were as happy as they could be. Minako must have convinced him to do a little get together with everyone—even Mitsuru and Ken were pleased with the results. She looked down at the hand, still a bit sad that it hasn't started healing yet, but knew that it took patience—it was a bit difficult to write up notes or do homework. She laid her hand in her lap as she saw Minato coming her way. She tilted her head sideways as she could see him stopping behind her chair and a smiled appeared in his lips.
Fuuka felt herself being a bit more closer to Minato any day she had free—she even had something to give him, so now it'll be the best time as everyone was full and tired. "What is it?" She asked as she watched him reach for her good hand and held her close as Koromaru began laying down and Ken gaging with his finger pointing to his tongue off at the side.
"I want to talk to you—could we go to your room?" He asked as Fuuka felt her cheeks heating up. A quick nod and within minutes they were heading to Fuuka's room. Minako, after washing her face and heading downstairs to use the shower, saw that she watched Fuuka unlock her door to her room and saw her twin brother heading in with her. She let out a small gasp as she heard the door shut quietly and the lock clicking in place. Minako walked back into her room, unable to believe she was with Minato. She swore that she was admiring Shinjiro more than her brother—Minato wasn't a bad brother at all, just that he got possessive, even though he was a silent leader.
Minako bit her lip as she didn't see them come out for another minute or two. She was trying her hardest to get them together—Shinjiro and Fuuka that is—and frowned as she worried that Shinjiro would find out. She knew she had to go to someone whom she believed might be able to help her out. She grabbed her bath stuff and new clothes as she tipped toed passed a Fuuka's bedroom and flew down the stairs towards the boy's door she wanted to knock on. "Akihiko-senpai? Could I come in and talk to you?"
--------
Fuuka felt the tension slowly diffuse around them as she explained she had a gift for him. Minato raised an eyebrow as he saw a Fuuka with a pair of headphones—silver mixed in with a tint of baby blue. They looked sharp and Fuuka smiled at him.
"I made these—I knew your current pair was…probably worn from wear and tear. And thought you might like these." She stated as Minato began to put them to his ear while he unplugged the old ones from his MP3 player and plugged the new ones in. His eyes grew in amazement.
"Fuuka…the sound on these is amazing!" He could hear every little instrument, as if they were made to be the most expensive pair, and yet they were free. Minato threw his old pair into her trash can and saw her cheeks heating up.
"I know I'm not really feminine, aren't I?" She whispered as she played with the end of her skirt, feeling nervous all of a sudden. "And this is just something I like to do on my spare time—I thought of you and knew you'd like them."
Minato walked over to her and put his arms around her and pulled her into a tight embrace. "So? This is who you are. I hope you keeping doing what you love." He whispered as he put his hands on the top of her head, watching as she looked up at him. "I hope you could teach me everything you know."
Fuuka felt her heart picking up as she saw their eyes locked onto each other. Her breath seemed to be caught in her throat—she wondered if she could convey what she felt before it was too late. In a blink of an eye, she felt Minato's lips on hers—soft, and small plump lips on her own made her barrier come down as she didn't worry about anything or anyone.
But, deep in her mind, her thoughts did come across Shinjiro, and even Junpei a bit—she was the first to remove her lips as she looked at how determined Minato was. "Minato…"
"I don't care if you like Junpei—"
"He doesn't like me."
Fuuka quickly inserted before Minato continued onward. Minato was a bit startled at how quick Fuuka responded to that rumor in a heartbeat. "Chidori?"
"Chidori."
"Ah." He nodded as he cupped her cheek tenderly, being as suave as he could. Minato never wanted to play the second man—he felt more like a man to lead. It seemed to be something that was thrusted upon himself most of the time. "Do you want to talk about it?"
She thought for a moment. "I do, but I would rather think of you at a time like this. Junpei is with Chidori, he likes her, and I have stopped chasing him." She explained as she wrapped her arms around his neck, which made Minato wrap his arms around her waist and waited for her move. She began to think briefly about Shinjiro and the dream of him kissing her forehead—she didn't realize it happened in reality. Losing blood makes you a bit loopy and exhausted. "I have no qualms with you."
Minato took that as his cue and carefully maneuvered Fuuka towards her bed and laid her down gently. "Fuuka, I promise, that I won't hurt you in any way. You have been so precious to me that I cannot see you in such a negative light." He removed his uniform jacket and tossed it aside. "I'll be sure to love you like no one has."
Fuuka was speechless—she heard rumors of him sweet talking his way with Yukari and Chihiro, then again they were just rumors. Her cheeks were stained a bright, red color, looking like a tomato. She could see Minato move toward her lips, one leg in between her own pair of legs, as he slithered up towards her as Fuuka wrapped her arms around his neck. Their lips touched and Fuuka was in bliss.
--------------------------------
Akihiko opened the door to his room, seeing a nerve-wracked Minako waiting for him. "Minako? Is everything okay?" She shook her head as she barged in and closed the door, locking it herself as she turned to put her stuff on Akihiko's desk and turned to face him. Her face covered in worry, a couple beads of sweat running down her neck, and she felt like she was having a panic attack.
"Listen, wh-whatever I say to you, right now, in this room, cannot leave this room." Minako pulled his desk chair out from said desk and sat down in it. She looked as if she was writ with anxiety. Akihiko nodded slowly, reaching for one of his protein shakes and sat down on the bed. "And you cannot tell Shinjiro. I don't want him to be angry and start a fight."
Akihiko's eyes grew, not knowing what she could be meaning. "Well? What is it?"
Minako let out a big heavy sigh. "Okay, first off: have you noticed that Shinjiro is more… what's the word… relaxed and a bit happier? Maybe not happier but as if some weight has been lifted off his shoulders?"
"Has he? He seems too busy to hang out with me but once a week, if I'm lucky." He sipped his shake and put it down afterwards on his side table by his bed. "I thought that was because of you. Not that I am hating the idea of him being friendly."
Minako smiled. "Well, yes I might be like…20% of the reason why, but Fuuka-chan is the other 80%." She stayed as he could see Akihiko's eyebrows raise in surprise. "N-now, they are both very friendly to one another—he did help her how to fix her beef stroganoff the other day. And I don't know what Fuuka is saying or doing—doubtful of her doing anything, she seems so shy—but have you noticed how stronger Shinjiro has been in battle?"
Akihiko nodded as he started to get up and moved towards Minako, his hand placed firmly on his desk. "No kidding—critical attacks, more outgoing and confident with his Persona—so Yamagishi is the cause? …" he paused for a moment to let the gears in his head start to turn. "In battle, she does well in keeping our energy going. Just, maybe Shinji is actually listening?"
Minako shook her head as she looked up at Akihiko. "Yes and no. She's got more confident in her skills, too. Have you notice Oracle hasn't been failing us? Like we are getting more energy back quicker and faster. I think it's ten-fold." She mentioned as she held up her finger before Akihiko could speak. "That's in battle though. I think there is something going on between those two. But I cannot pinpoint what it is. The way they talk to each other, seemed more than acquaintances. And…" she looked up at Akihiko and lowered her finger, "…when she hurt her hand, Shinjiro was quick to her aid and it was amazing, like he knew what to do and how to handle everything so calmly!"
Minako felt herself getting worked up—she had to take a breath and put her elbow on his desk and her chin in her hand. "So, why is that a problem?" Akihiko asked as Minako sighed and lowered her eyes to her feet.
"Because I just saw my brother walking into Fuuka's room, alone, and I heard the locked click. …" she whispered as Akihiko leaned against his desk. "…I don't know what to say or do—what if Shinjiro finds out?"
Akihiko crossed his arms, unsure of what to say. He just started a relationship with Minako a month ago, around after the full moon battle in August. Akihiko was just trying to get used to the idea of love much less anything else.
"Why don't you keep an eye on him? I mean, I already try that, but he seems more warmed up to you." He stated as he kept his back to Minako. "You can keep him cool if he does find out. Then again," he turned to face Minako, a small smile on his lips, "wouldn't expect Shinji to be so fond of Yamagishi."
Then again, she reminds me... ...of Miki. ...just a little bit... Akihiko thought silently, wondering if that was the main reason they were always by each other's side. It made him wonder what would've happen if Miki really was alive and saw this happening.
"I know, right? I'm all for Fuuka finding someone after Junpei basically denied all of her outings—"
"Ohhhhh, so that's why Yamagishi was asking for Junpei." A lightbulb went off in Akihiko's head, his brain connecting the neurons. "…but, she's with Arisato in her room."
"Yeeeeeep. Now you see why I am worried?"
Akihiko nodded and reached for his boxing gloves. "I'm not worried because he is in her room." Minako blinked, wondering what he could ever mean. "I'm worried because it sounds like Yamagishi invited your brother to her room. Not the other way around. If you think those two have something in common, Shinji and Yamagishi, then it would probably be a kick in the chest if he saw those two leaving at the same time." He frowned as he began to lace up his gloves and kept his body from facing Minako. "And Shinji usually keeps his anger to himself--hopefully, he still does."
----------------
If one would to look at the monitors on the fourth floor, and peered into Fuuka's bedroom, they would see that their arms and limbs were a tangled mess, just like their clothes on the floor. Minato's hair stuck to his face as he had to catch his breath—he was only clad in his pants as Fuuka was laying there in only her bra and panties. Fuuka laid her arm on her forehead, wondering how something so sinful could feel so good.
"Are you okay?" Fuuka asked Minato as she sat up slowly reaching in to kiss his neck. "It would be a shame to end it just now." She whispered as she nibbled on his neck, determined to have her way with him, if he didn't mind.
He nodded as he wiped his forehead of sweat. "Yeah—guess I needed this as badly as you did, Fuuka." Minato stated as he let out a moan with his head slightly leaning back, letting out a chuckle. "You don't get to have all the fun!" Fuuka gasped as she was grabbed by her hands, a giggle escaping her lips, as Minato laid her back down and let his eyes roam up and down her petite frame.
Minato began to lean forward as his eyes caught a glimpse of her right hand where the laceration a few days ago appeared. He then become concerned as Fuuka turned her head and Minato sat back up again. "What happened to your hand?" He asked as his eyes filled with worry. "Did you get hurt when we went to Tartarus?"
She shook her head. "No no." She sat up with him, her cheeks pink with warmth. "I was putting up some glasses and I fell and got a decent sized cut." She mentioned as Minato showed concern in his eyes. "But don't worry! Minako-chan helped clean up the glass and Shinjiro-senpai fixed me up—"
Minato's eyes turned dark once she brought up Shinjiro. And with that smile on her face, it seemed like it wasn't a big deal to her. " 'Shinjiro-senpai'? Is that what you are calling him now?" He uttered with a taste of anger on his lips. "What happened with calling him by his last name?" Minato felt his heart was already overcome by jealously and aching in anger.
Fuuka could sense the hostility in Minato's voice. She looked at him as if she just got slapped in the face. "M-Minato…?" Fuuka felt herself move quickly away. His eyebrows were lowered and small winkles appeared between his eyebrows. "H-he is just…"
"Just what, Fuuka?" He spat at her, her heart breaking as she sat there speechless. She couldn't understand why all the boys she cared for seemed to get angry over the name "Shinjiro". A long silence passed as Minato lowered his head and let out a laughter filled with frustration. "…I wanted to make love to you and what—you've fallen for him!" Minato got off the bed and began searching for his clothes off the floor.
"What makes you think I have?!" Fuuka exclaimed as she felt his cold eyes back on her.
"Because I can feel it when you were kissing me!"
Fuuka winced as she wasn't as experienced as she hoped for, but those words stun her into more silence. He almost yelled those words for everyone in the dorm to hear them. Minato found his dress shirt, putting it on haphazardly, and shook his head. "What the hell am I doing? Should've known that you'd be…" he spoke to himself, stopping before he called her something he shouldn't. He kept his back to her and went to the door. Fuuka got up off the bed, still clad in panties and her bra, as she felt tears stinging her eyes.
I should've stayed with Yukari--what an idiot I am!
"M-Minato—"
"Don't. Don't 'Minato' me. Don't suck face with me when you are thinking of Shinjiro." He opened the door, after yelling that last statement a bit loudly, and slammed the door harshly. Fuuka covered her lips, her body trembling as she slumped to her knees and reached for her clothes, tears blurring her vision.
------------------------------
Minako and Akihiko moved towards the stairway and heard Minato yelling out to Fuuka and then the door was slammed hard; they flinched in sync. Minako covered her lips as she put a hand on Akihiko's shoulder and shook her head. They both heard Minato letting out a heavy sigh as they could hear his footsteps coming towards the stairs. Minako moved her index finger to her lips as they both turned around slowly and saw Shinjiro coming up the stairs from the first floor.
Minako froze, along with Akihiko at her side, as Shinjiro blinked a few times and climbed to the second floor as he crossed his arms. "Just what are you two do—?"
Minato stopped as he was a few steps away from the second floor as he saw Shinjiro coincidentally on the same floor as him. Minako and Akihiko moved away carefully as Shinjiro seemed to feel confused. The silence was deafening as Minato button up his shirt, keeping his eyes trained on Shinjiro. Minako reached for Akihiko's sleeve as she didn't know who was going to respond first.
"What are you looking at?" Minato spat at Shinjiro as he pulled up his zipper on his pants. Shinjiro's eyes squinting as he saw Minato was getting dressed right in front of him. Literally. He buttoned up his shirt only two buttons before Shinjiro spoke to him.
"Why are you giving me attitude?"
Minato huffed, letting out a "tch" as he fixed his hair and wiped the sweat off his forehead. "I don't know. Why don't you ask your little girlfriend upstairs?"
Shinjiro turned to Minako, as she looked back at him, noticing that only Akihiko was with her—Mitsuru and Yukari were busy, he assumed, and Aigis must have been in her room anyway, so he thought of Fuuka instantly. "What did you do?" He carefully said, venom leaking from his words as he moved carefully towards the male twin. Akihiko moved quickly between them, Minako right behind, as he put his hand on Shinjiro's chest.
"Shinji, not now."
"Oh, I didn't do nothing to her. She's just two-faced—" he turned towards Minako and glared at her, "—better watch out: she might take Sanada-senpai, too." Shinjiro felt some anger in the pit of his stomach—he didn't know what it was, but it made him sick to hear how he spoke so badly about Fuuka. Akihiko still kept his hand on Shinjiro's chest as Minato walked by cooly. "Oh," Minato turned towards Shinjiro, a devilish grin upon his lips, "while she was making out with me, she only wanted you. Can't fuck Junpei, doesn't want to fuck me—she wants someone who kisses her boo-boos and make her feel better. Guess she needs a father in her life to screw some sense into her."
Minato gritted his teeth while bringing up his fists to the corner of his eyes and turned them towards his face to resemble tears; Shinjiro felt his ears turning red from embarrassment, anger, and albeit a bit happy, but didn't want to explain that outloud. He wondered if he was a bit chaotic thinking like that. "Don't stay with her—she can't be happy with anyone." Minato moved to his bedroom door, opened and closed it loudly as Akihiko carefully removed his hand from Shinjiro's chest.
Shinjiro took a deep breath, knowing that Minato had to be lying, right? Minako and Akihiko watched Shinjiro walk up the stairs, to create less of a nuisance and saw Fuuka's door was still shut. Minako and Akihiko stayed behind, standing on the stairs as Shinjiro stood at the doorway. He turned back around and Minako waved him to keep going. He sighed and turned back to the door, knocking softly on her door.
"Fuuka?" He asked softly as he heard a sob and then a click on the door. Shinjiro hesitated, but moved his hand to the door, his palms sweating, as he tried to open the door but nothing. She locked it on him and to everyone else. Shinjiro turned around and walked towards the two SEES members. "What the hell happened?"
Minako closed her eyes and rubbed her eyelids over and over. "I just saw him going into her room, and half an hour later or so, he yells out… Er…" Minako knew this was going to make her feel even worse for Fuuka. "He said, and I quote," she lowered her voice to a whisper as Shinjiro moved closer, " 'Don't suck face with me when you are thinking of Shinjiro.' And then he slammed the door on her."
"Yeah. Heard that door slamming from all the way on the ground floor…" he uttered as he felt like an idiot. He should have been taking more care of her as he felt hopeless currently. Shinjiro moved to a nearby arm chair and sat down, his fingers hiding his face, as he seemed a bit defeated. No one told him how to react in a situation like this.
Minako sat across from him, sitting on the coffee table, and put her hand on his knee. "Listen: Minato gets really jealous and possessive easily. Teenage boys are like that, sometimes. But, for our sake, and possibly Fuuka's, be there for her. She might not want to see anyone for a little bit." Minako stated, wondering, and hoping that she was right about Minato.
I have never seen him act like this—besides, doesn't he have a thing for Yukari anyway? Much of a player, isn't he?
Minako thought silently as she felt a bit worrisome about the two people she wanted to be together. It annoyed her a bit and thought of something. "Shinjiro, why don't you sit next to Fuuka's door? If she opens it up, maybe she'll let you in and you both could talk?" Minako suggested. "I mean, it doesn't hurt to try. And, maybe I'll go talk to Minato. Maybe I'll take Akihiko with me and we could beat him up?"
"No." Akihiko stated flatly. "We are not beating up a member of SEES, as much as I'd want to."
Minako was just kidding around, so that was another thing to work on with Akihiko at least. Minako got up from her spot, almost face palming, as she could see Shinjiro wrought with anger and fear and heartache. "Shinjiro, just trust me. Us girls are complicated, but I know she'd be happy to know you were there for her, even if it wasn't the best situation currently."
"...Minako, she was making out with your brother." Shinjiro stated, his teeth slightly gritting together in anger. "Maybe she doesn't need me." He dejectedly stated as he began to get up and walk away from Minako.
"Shinjiro..." Minako got up slowly and tried to reach out for him but Akihiko stopped her and shook his head. "...Don't be like Minato, okay?" Minako called out as she saw him stopping on the staircase. "Because Fuuka thought of you-don't forget that, alright? She thought of you and probably feared you would hate her." She lowered her head and her arm slowly in sync—she wondered if she was even getting through his head. "Please-"
"...just leave me alone, leader." He stated harshly, darting down the stairs and towards his room and Minako slithered into the empty seat Shinjiro sat in. She didn't even hear the door slam down below—maybe he was going out for some fresh air?
Minako covered her face and ran her fingers through her hair, untying it and closing her eyes tightly. "...this isn't the way it was supposed to happen." She stated softly as she could see Akihiko sitting on the coffee table this time around. "Should we leave him alone?"
"Shinji? … …" Akihiko took a moment to think and nodded after he thought about all that has happened in the last month alone. "Give him half an hour—he might need to walk and let the steam leave his big, inflated head. Go talk to your brother—see if he needs a good punch in the face or not." He stated, holding his fist close to his chest. Akihiko smiled weakly as Minako nodded and began to talk down towards his room.
"I feel like this is my fault, but it isn't... is it?" She whispered to herself as she took the stairs one step at a time and began to look at her brother's door, wondering if this was the best way to solve everything. She could hear him pacing the room over and over—Minako knew this was going to get worse before it got better for everyone.
