Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, 26, took her teammates on a tour of Gothenburg. 

Then the Chelsea players opened their eyes to chocolate balls. 

- They didn't know what it was but were incredibly impressed, she says. 

She had been looking forward to yesterday's match against her old club BK Häcken ever since she saw the Champions League draw last fall. 

- It was a rush of happiness in my body to be able to come back to Bravida and to end this half year by being in Sweden and only being able to go home to little Kolsva afterwards to celebrate Christmas. It was too good to be true. I really enjoyed every second out there today, says Johanna Rytting Kaneryd after the 3-1 victory. 

Before the summit meeting in the group, she and team and national team mate Zećira Mušović took the opportunity to show the rest of the Gothenburg gang.

The Chelsea squad strolled around town and viewed the Christmas lights that the country's second largest city is known for, among other things. 

- Many felt "oh, wow", I don't think they were prepared for it to be as nice as it is. A perfect day and the sun was shining, Gothenburg really showed its best side, says Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, who is happy about BK Häcken's progress in the Champions League.

Now it was admittedly a loss against Chelsea, who had just finished the table, but BK Häcken is second ahead of Paris FC and Real Madrid. Hisingsklubben has everything in its own hands before the two final matches against the latter teams in January. 

- I am incredibly impressed by Häcken's effort and really hope that they follow us into the playoffs. Even though they didn't win the league they showed they are a good team and took that game to Europe, it's not just about doing it.

How do you think the team has developed since you left (August 2022)?

- There have been many players in and out and it is not always easy to maintain the structure, but I really think they have done that. They are investing in women's football and in terms of the game it feels like the new coach (Mak Lind) really has a clear game idea. I think they will be dangerous. In a few years so who knows… I think they will continue to step up. 

Which teams advance to the quarter-finals? 

- Chelsea and Häcken, I believe in us.

He is a willing recruit to HYDRA or whatever compatible evil power hungry group exists in any particular fandom; Vought, Brotherhood of Mutants, the Sith, the Empire, whatever organization he feels will gain him the most power, protection and prestige. He is a sadomasochist, he craves power above anything else and will do whatever he wants, whatever he thinks he has to, to get it. He is not a nice guy. He is not redeemable. Any emotions he has that might be construed as love or affection by outside parties are only mimicries of those - he may even think that he loves someone (he's pansexual) but it's only in a way that serves him, only if they please him, only if whatever they're doing and how they live in some way contributes to helping him. He is controlling and obsessive. He is calculating and vindictive. He is not going to change his ways for anyone other than maybe on some surface level because he thinks it'll help him get further with them / their cause if that will help him in some way.

Discharged after he confronted his CO about an order he considered unlawful bc it would endanger civilians; not willing to risk the heat of bad PR fallout, military simply discharged him. Parents died when he was in his early twenties. His younger sister lives with their aunt in a yet tbd foreign country. He spent some time in a private mercenary unit; did not work out and he has since being primarily nomadic, hopping from city to city doing odd jobs like security, bodyguard, bouncer, bartender, etc for whether he can get decent pay under the table. Has a habit of landing in trouble bc he doesn’t like seeing people pushed around.

I kinda feel like SJM continuously saying her books are about women finding their strength etc is a bit questionable? Idk I feel like as a very GENERAL principle yes that’s true of her books as a whole. But crescent city was a hot dog fest and I mean that in the worst way. Bryce and Lidia were the only fcs really, and two would normally be okay except we had four male povs plus like 3 other side male characters who were very present throughout. Meanwhile Sathia was randomly introduced as Tharion’s LI and Hypaxia was pushed to the side (probably so that she’ll have her own spin-off, but still). Juniper and Fury were written out of the book. I think before Crescent City it would’ve been a truer statement because her books had a whole cast of strong female characters (whether you like them or not) (Aelin, Feyre, Manon, Yrene, Elide, Nesryn, Ansel, Lysandra, even Mor Elain and Nesta). But recently there’s… a stronger presence of male characters I’ve noticed. Mostly with Crescent City, but she seems to be going that way with Azriel too. Weird.

I think with SJM, it depends on the series. Sometimes she likes the men more, sometimes the women. Sometimes, no one. I feel like in CC, she didn't like neither the FMC nor the MMCs? Maybe because it was all so abrupt and underdeveloped? The Quinlar romance was at best mediocre, though it has such amazing potential. Ruhn and Lidia felt under developed. Though I think SJM liked Ruhn? Not Hunt so much. Tharion got lost. Ithan got lost.

In TOG she definitely loved the women. Aelin, Manon, Lysandra, Yrene. Elide.

In ACOTAR, she is unhealthily in love with the men--Rhys, Azriel, Eris. I never felt like she liked Feyre all that much. I think she views Nesta almost as another male character and hence she is in love with her.

The FMCs always lead. But again, as with everything, she treats them according to her immediate emotions and whims.

I do love ships, and this has been the one character where i've been super open to it, but shipping with Bucky is chemistry based.

I'm open to plotting, but as a rule, I'm horrible at it initially. I like to start off winging things to see where it leads the characters and how they interact with each other. But don't hesitate to message me if you're interested in something.

I try to keep this a drama free zone - call outs, hate, and rude anons are not welcome - I've had a lot of bad experiences with partners, so I ask that my boundaries are respected and if you have an issue with me or the portrayal hard block.

I felt similarly about EoS! I’ll be interested to see what you think once you finish the book, if you feel the same or differently. Everyone being in awe of Aelin is something that annoys me about most of SJM’s work including CC with Bryce and I also felt it with Nesta. Push through (if you want to Of course) for Chaol! I really enjoyed Tower of Dawn. It was a breath of fresh air. One of the fc’s in it is actually my favorite fc of TOG. It also has one of my favorite ships. Also May I ask, did you DNF Zodiac Academy? 🖤

I read through the sea battle last night and we'll see how far I get tonight. I'm trying to do at least 50 pages which usually is very doable but last night I started watching The Jury instead which, if you have access to it, it's SO funny.

Did I DNF ZA? Technically no but in reality yeah, I think so. Just page upon page of poorly written bullying and I don't think I'm strong enough for 5 books of this before it gets "good" (which I find questionable).

SJM’s refusal to write any virginity loss scenes is very odd to me. I understand she wants her fc’s to be sexually experienced before being with their LI but I do think there’s something odd underlying there that she literally just won’t write it at all, for example for Elide and Lorcan even though that could’ve been a fan favorite scene. I additionally think she could’ve gone that route with Nesta because going from cold-virgin-because no one in town is good enough, to taking home strangers blackout drunk every night, seemed a cheap way to have Nesta be very experienced. I don’t mind that she wasn’t a virgin of course, I’m all for fc’s having sexual agency. I think it’s good for new fc’s that SJM is establishing like how she did for Feyre and Bryce, but it’s interesting and seems retcon-y that SJM has to go back to old characters (like Nesta and Elain) who would otherwise be virgins and make them actually experienced. Again, it’s totally good with me to have experienced fc’s (and love that Nesta and Elain are experienced), it’s more just about SJM being weird about it. It’s just something odd I’ve noticed about her and to me is a tad bit of a red flag about how she views women’s empowerment through a very narrow lens (sex, swords and sassiness). The fact that this is even used as a point for why Gwynriel won’t happen. I agree but I think it’s strange for SJM to even have this reputation to the point where it can be used in the ship argument

This ACOWAR interview goes into SJM's views on her portrayal of sex in her books and thought process for writing Feyre's experience.

One thing I love about Feyre is that she's not a virgin when the events of the first book start, which is kind of unusual for young heroines, even in romance that's more definitively for adults. Why did you include that detail?

With the sex in my books, I try to make it a positive thing. It’s OK for women to be virgins, it’s OK for them to have had as many sexual partners as they want. With Feyre, it just felt like it was part of her character. I wanted her to have a sexual history that wasn’t something to be ashamed of, that was something that she was in charge of; I wanted her to be in charge of her body, her passions and desires. It’s important for women to realize it's your body, it’s your choices, and if anyone tries to shame you about that stuff, then that’s on them.

On another level, it also allowed me to avoid the initial losing-her-virginity sex scene with Tamlin, which I didn’t really want to write. I wanted to get right to the fun stuff. This makes me sound like such a pervert. I wanted her to be on relatively equal footing with him. The power dynamic between her and Tamlin is so unequal at times that I wanted her to at least have some control in the bedroom and know what to expect. Getting to write these sexy-times scenes has definitely been one of the fun elements [of writing these books]. When I wrote the first one in ACOTAR, I definitely had to have a glass of wine, because I was like, "Oh my god, my family is gonna be reading this book and we’ll never be able to have Thanksgiving dinner ever again." Thankfully my family’s been pretty cool about it. We just don’t discuss it, which is fine by me.

So I think it's weird that she thinks that only non-virgins have agency? Yeah. Because often it's choice, sometimes circumstances, sometimes trauma, and sometimes, it's simply 'i havent found the right person that I want to lay naked with and allow into my body'. I personally think that women have agency regardless of whether they had penetrative sex.

Like you said, Elide was one of the most compelling, relatable and brave characters in TOG. Truthfully, whether she's had sex or didn't, had no bearing on anything that she did or what she'd experienced.

To me, the most egregious case of this is Nesta. Never for a second do I believe that Nesta would've just gone hog wild and just boning everyone in sight. It doesn't make any sense, even in relation to her trauma.

But overall, I just think that SJM somehow equates sex with 'agency' and independence and something akin to 'life experience', whereas logically, it has nothing to do with your worth as a woman--not one's virginity or lack thereof. Sorry, but having sex with Isaac Hale or once with Graysen is not the flext that SJM thinks it is.

Personally, I would've liked to see Elain be a virgin. It's in character and in line with her personality and her story. But whatever, I guess Graysen was the right choice. Not.
