Also it's been 2 years since the last time I watched one so I kinda forgot but now watching again it makes it fascinating again the degree to which Two barely does any big speeches and wham lines, much less commonly than. All other Doctors tbh. Cuz up till now I was like well I guess it's partially a show development thing too like Three is v much the start of Dramatic Heroics and the speeches came along w that but nah One distributes poetry from his pockets like birdseeds. It's about two being Silly Goose but also I think again it's deepening his whole. Inconspicuous On Purpose thing. He's silly for real and also playing dumb at the same time because he makes speeches when he feels it's needed- when a young orphan is scared. When the timelords try and prosecute him for his ways. When things turn bad enough. He has wisdom. But he'd also often much rather influence people in other ways- with deeds and ideas and interactions, revelations- than tell them with words.
I'm also arguing with myself how much is it format based cuz he does have less Conceptual Scifi and Moral Dilemma eps, but also. Base Under Siege is very much not a format that inherently rules out Speeches and Moral Themes? Most other doctors would have put the Macra Terror morals much more clearly. But he doesn't carry a speech in that episode; he converses with Ben and gently, keeps nudging him towards freedom with a quiet kind air. He repeats to Polly not to obey and keep her spirit, but it's Conversation, he's not looking at the camera and trying to word it in a new and beautiful quotable way.
Enemy of the world also full of the doctor engaging mortality and philosophy! But again, besides "I will expose him, ruin him, something something, but I won't be his executor. No one has that right", most of what he does this serial he does through. That insane gun trust maneuver I posted when I watched it cuz. That's what I'm on doctor who for that's a MOVE Alright. That's trust. Creating it. Believing in it. Risking everything to interact with people and form their moral alliance on that. And then again, with "People spend so much time making nice things and then other people come along and break them"; most of his distaste to violence of both sides in the episode is Interactional, I won't do this. I don't like you. I doubt this and that. It's not Overdone but it's pointed. And then he holds a vase and says that and very much he's saying You All Destroy, What About Creating. When Do You Create. And like for real that's like verging on some legit commie stuff, "people spend so much time making nice things"... It's deep and delivered with casual, bumbling hobo good heartedness. And really his whole thing isn't preforming stupid it's preforming, Simple Niceness, isn't it. I have a specific Hebrew word for it but he's trying to be Just Some Guy not to get a mental one up on people! But because people listen to people. "Human beings are always in reach of other human beings"- that's what he says about putting the human factor in the daleks as a way to cause their de-dalek-ification, not they're domination.
Hey, Evil Of The Daleks is another episode where he's very much doing things by Interactivity.... I lost the thread of this post completely and went all over the place jxjvjsjsjft but I am rotating blorbo in my mind like a mega turbo centrifuge.
