i wanna hear more about the alternate verdant au for wx!
TALKING ABOUT AUS
AHHHH I LOVE THAT AU BUT I HAVEN TALKED ABT IT IN MONTHS
the alternate verdant au takes place in my interpretation of a sort of two kingdoms/two sides/two factions type au, using the snowfallen and verdant skin sets. this au is a lot more heavily focused on worldbuilding then characters because i love that sort of thing but i will condense that worldbuilding into being very. VERY abridged (but it will still be hella long). feel free to inquire about it more, though!! i'd love to talk about it
essentially, there's two biomes separated by a large river. one side is a tundra, through closer to the river, it's more live a snowy forest. snow is common in winter, fall, and even a little bit of spring, though it all melts away to reveal short grasses in the summer. on the other side is a very lush deciduous forest. it is deciduous, though with the amount of vines and foliage, you wouldn't be silly for mistaking it as a tropical forest. it snows here in the winter, though most of it melts away by spring.
each of these biomes have a congregation of magic. it's said to be held within the ground of these biomes, but that's not exactly true? magic in this au is mostly genetic. though it is affected by environment-- the moment you are born (or hatched. or built. who knows.), the biome you are in determines what kind of magic you can use (believed to be determined by temperature, but some still hold on to the theory the ground holds magic) it's on a spectrum, from the "magically inclined" (people born with the ability to use magic easily) and "magically devoid" (unable to use magic at all). there's two types-- verdant and snowfallen.
it's a soft magic system, with the only real constraint is that your magic has to do with the environment you were born in. like verdant magic users can affect plants, maybe even other forms of nature to smaller degrees like rocks, wind, or water (maybe.). snowfallen users have influence over ice and snow (to a degree, water too). if you can imagine it and it has to do with those elements, you can influence it w magic. magically inclined people will have a much easier time imagining and influencing the world around them then magically devoid people. i could get into the social aspects and politics of inclined vs. devoid but that's not what this is about (for now)
anyways these two sides hate each other for a variety of reasons, mainly cultural, but thats way too much to get into. all you need to know is they do not like each other
theres a lot more i can talk about this world. how each society is structured, architecture, its politics, military, myths and religions, hell even more about magic?? the whole nine yards
but let's get to wx
wx was built by wagstaff in snowfallen a very long time ago, like hundreds if not thousands of years ago. he wanted to artificially make magic. wx was a vessel and a test subject, for he didn't want to risk trying to force it into himself without prior testing (not that he knew if it would be dangerous or not, just for the possibility it could be dangerous) and he also didn't think he could get away with finding a volunteer to do it. willing or not. (snowfallen society doesn't put much emphasis on inclined vs. devoid people, nor is wagstaff particularly trusting of anyone. so it would be hard to find a participant). he tried a lot of things-- getting people he trusted to cast magic on wx (didnt stick), bringing them to significant monoliths in the tundra (nothing), trying to venture out to find the embodiment of winter (fruitless), even digging around in the ground for a bit (no results). wx was powered on for a lot of this and got to experience this. was never really told why but they went along for the ride
he got tired. and his time was running out. he was... a bit attached to wx though, having spent so much time building them and trying things out with them, he couldn't scrap them. he also didn't want anyone taking his robot long after he was gone. so he crossed the river. at this point, wx was off, for easier travelling, but wagstaff took wx to the other side of the river. he travelled deep in verdant territory, staying undetected and travelling mostly by night. when he got to a sufficiently deep part of the forest he. left wx there. sitting by a big tree, and he disappeared.
now, over hundred of thousands of years, wx was left there, sitting, rusting, corroding. and nature often claims uncharted things, including a metal/ice mixture that just happens to be sitting there! wx's body undergoes a lot of change-- getting rust, getting dirt, eaten away by lichen into funny little shapes, roots and sprouts growing through their eyes, body, and wires....
and they power on.
they're given life anew by the roots that claimed their hollow shell. they don't remember anything. they don't know why they're there, sitting at that spot, what happened. they forgot who wagstaff was. they cant recall the months, maybe even years of trying to get magic to stay in them.
all they know is that their source code is WX-78, and that the cold is somehow bad.
basically wx was reanimated by verdant magic. the trees are magical in this au, that's less dubious then the tundra, but the extent of their magic is unknown, even by verdant citizens
and wx had no magic before, but they do now-- verdant magic. they can only really influence the roots on themselves, though sometimes, the roots influence them. it can get scary and confusing on who's really in control here
smth about wandering and finding a little verdant village and integrating into that idk.
that's verdant wx's backstory for this au :D
