The reason why there was even a discussion between Darrow and Virginia in GS about how each manages to sleep after the Institute is quite simple.

They only sleep well when they sleep together, so it's obvious that between RR and GS, they only ever slept together. Alone, they resort to sleeping on the floor or in the closet to get some semblance of rest.
