god but looking back at stuff you wrote ten years ago and seeing the casual internalized misogyny is... grating

#i mean i've low-key wanted to rewrite 'objects in space' for y e a r s but... #props to everyone who made it through that one to the rest of the series where i did rewrite it and improve the characterization and plot #i guess relatively speaking it isn't terrible -- like i feel like it's no worse than firefly itself is -- but still it makes me cringe #i would rewrite... so much of the banter if i would write it now #and i would completely excise the toph/haru sideplot; while i don't think it's bad i just feel like it's unnecessary #i only started in that direction because it mirrored simon/kaylee #the only things i'm unambiguously happy with are the jet/mai relationship and the development of suki and ty lee's subplot #don't get me wrong -- on the whole i still love the story! #but there are definitely things i'd change and fix #wait actually i also do like the mai/katara friendship a lot #and mai in general translated really well into the series and she and suki were definitely my favorites to write
