just finished rewatching s6 and can confirm it makes as little sense the second time around as it did the first. win telling thursday "it wasn't about the money" girl it was LITERALLY about the money. fred "gotta turn in cold case evidence that'll do more harm than good bc otherwise it's Corruption" and then letting box talk him into accepting kickbacks? my man WHAT kind of moral calculus does russell lewis have you doing. meanwhile morse has been reset to season one ("I feel like I'm going in circles") and he's just vibing. gets himself a new lewk, solves some mysteries, goes house hunting. no big deal. thursday is over at castle gate full on spiralling from shame & guilt but it's fine, totally fine, we don't need to textually address that at any point whatsoever.

#like am I missing some kinda subtext here that would make it make sense. #I do think one of the show's (few!) weaknesses is that it often reaches for subtlety in the writing and winds up with vagueness instead #but I feel like I've sussed out as much as I can feasibly suss #the only thing that--well didn't necessarily become CLEARER but that I paid more attention to-- #was the impetus behind thursday distancing himself from morse: #the aforementioned shame & guilt over george and the indignity of the disciplinary and winding up under box's thumb #(OH and his failing marriage) #and not wanting morse to see him like that; wanting perhaps to still be the person he used to be #even if it is only in morse's eyes #(OR perhaps not wanting to disappoint him?) #anyway. perversely looking forward to season seven #now that I don't have the anxiety from dreading how bad their schism will get I am free to enjoy the melodrama #supplemental log
