Imaginary Book Recs: Another Coregean title, The Amateur Princess, a Ruritanian romance.

Tresta Gild is a con woman who frequently masquerades as Princess Grayce, a royal exiled after a coup in the tiny, distant nation of Anatavia and in need of hospitality from the gullible aristocracy of Corege. All goes well until dignitaries loyal to the former king of Anatavia, believing Tresta to be the real princess, sweep her up in a plot to reclaim the throne from the usurper, the mad King Jellick. Now Tresta must use all her cunning to navigate a realm of political intrigue she barely understands--making alliances, suffering betrayals, and avoiding the scrutiny of the man once betrothed to the real Princess Grayce--while King Jellick does all in his power to eliminate this rival. Unless the real Princess Grayce shows up soon, this fake princess could meet a very real, very untimely end.

#imaginary book recs #answered asks #isfjmel-phleg #the blackberry bushes #thank you for this one as well #what a delight! #you know that ruritanian romance is one of my special loves #and this one gets extra points for having the extra con involved #the moodboard's not the greatest depiction but i'm working with what stock photos i can find #i wish i knew more of the geography around corege to understand a bit more about where this fictional nation is supposed to exist #also knowing what i do of coregean history this anatavia princess seems...kind of familiar #i'd call it very specific satire of a specific person but it's almost *too* obvious #like people can't just *do* that can they? #especially when it involves a prominent royal personage #and am i crazy or is there something just a bit familiar about the writing style? #i can't help noticing that the author's name is an anagram that rearranges itself very suspiciously #it's driving me nuts because i can't be right #it doesn't fit #he wouldn't be that petty #and yet #my brain's turning into that meme of the guy next to the string-covered maps #and the 'i've connected the dots' #but it could also be a case of yellow butterfly meme #and i have no way of knowing just how wrong i am #i may need to make further use of this interlibrary loan privilege #or at least your knowledge if you're feeling generous
