I had watched the beast -for calling it a dragon still seemed not quite right- pull itself from the tarpit, all claws and snarling teeth, unconcerned with the muck that collected at his gums, turning only to snap at his former prison, as if in outrage such a thing thought it could keep him.
When I finally got caught his eye, he did nothing but flash me a contemptuous grimace, and I thought better then to stick around much further.
