spent ages preparing to audition for a role I really really wanted and it's looking like (still unconfirmed) they might not even be holding auditions at all but have just given it to someone directly

which, meh, that sucks but that's the industry!

I'm just like now what? I spent a lot of my free time the last few months prepping and I genuinely don't know what to do with myself now!

What is it with show makers these days thinking they can write better than the original author? and the blatant disrespect? like where does the arrogance come from? Not just regarding IWTV but TV the last few years :/

Rolin Jones specifically is a hack with more confidence with talent and unfortunately that seems to be able to take you quite a way in Hollywood.

But from a wider lens, it's late stage capitalism, baybeeee! When everything is a commodity, this is what you get. "Art" in the visual form doesn't exist anymore--not in the mainstream.

And so you get things like endless reboots and Disney shitting out Marvel movies at a bubonic rate. If it performed well in the past then studios (TV included) seem to think doing it again is as good as printing money. Doesn't matter that the last reanimated corpse of a property they trotted out Weekend At Bernie's style didn't perform well! Because it's so much harder to pay writers to make something whole cloth than to slice off bits of existing IP and just graft them onto your own ideas--bonus points because the existing IP has name recognition!!

Modern producers seem to be gutless betting men. So they'll always bet on a horse that's already won at the track. Even if the horse is lame and needed to be taken out behind the barn and shot between the eyes years ago. Even if the horse has been Ship of Theseus'd to the point it's now Torsy the Torso Horse and thus can no longer run a race. Fuck it! Billions of money now, please!
